. Mental consciousness should be completely abandoned. Non-virtuous actions, because the results they produce are experienced as harsh and intense, should be abandoned in both public and private. As stated in the "Bodhicharyavatara": "Committing sins unseen is like consuming poison internally, bringing no happiness. Gods, yogis, and others like them, with their pure vision, see everything." Thus it is said. Now, explaining the virtues that align with liberation: The path to liberation is the practice of enlightenment and peace, which transcends existence and eliminates suffering. The virtuous deeds that cause liberation, which transcend cyclic existence and eliminate suffering, are: Those who enter the path of the three vehicles, all beings should diligently practice. Each generates the mind of enlightenment, cultivates the four immeasurables, practices the six perfections, and cultivates the aspects of enlightenment. Those who diligently engage in virtue day and night are those. Generating the mind to seek the path of the Shravakas, from cultivating the first path of mindfulness to the complete practice, is the small person. Entering the path of the Pratyekabuddhas is the intermediate person. Generating the great mind of enlightenment and then practicing the path is the great person. Each of the three types of individuals generates the mind of enlightenment, practices the thirty-seven factors of enlightenment, and those who diligently engage in virtue day and night, encompassed by the four immeasurables and the six perfections, and sealed with dedication, are called the virtues that align with liberation. Among them, the four immeasurables are: the loving-kindness of wishing all sentient beings to have happiness and the causes of happiness; the compassion of wishing all sentient beings to be free from suffering and the causes of suffering; the joy of wishing all sentient beings never to be separated from happiness; and the equanimity of thinking with impartiality towards all beings, near and far, with attachment and aversion. As stated in the "Ornament of the Sutras": "Having compassion for all sentient beings, having the intention of union and separation, having the intention of non-separation, having the intention of benefit and happiness, I prostrate to you." Thus it is said. The six perfections are: the generosity of wishing to give one's possessions to others, along with engaging in virtuous actions; the discipline of wishing to abandon all non-virtuous aspects, along with engaging in virtuous actions; the patience of not being angry at the harm of others, along with engaging in virtuous actions; the diligence of being enthusiastic about virtuous deeds, along with engaging in virtuous actions; the meditat

Samadhi is the mind abiding single-pointedly on its object, with the function of remaining. Wisdom is understanding the words and meanings of the Dharma, with the function of realization. All of these, practiced in the state of appearance but without inherent existence, are perfections. The function of generosity is that others obtain those things. Similarly, not harming others, not retaliating with anger, practicing virtue, the mind abiding and generating shamatha and vipashyana, and having no doubt after realization, these are the functions. Knowing that nothing is established, and practicing in the assembly of appearances, is the wonderful function of the perfections. As it says in the commentary on the Bodhichitta: Having known that all dharmas are emptiness, relying on the fruits of virtuous actions, this is more wonderful than wonderful, this is more marvelous than marvelous. Thus, the vast benefit of sentient beings in samsara is also accomplished. As it says in the Questions of Akshayamati: Although abiding in equality with the patience of no-self, great compassion is generated for sentient beings. Although giving generosity in order to fully ripen them, there is no hope for the ripening of karma. With thought, one always abides in nirvana. That activity abides in samsara. Although one has realized that all dharmas are emptiness, one believes in the ripening of karma. Thus. Among these, the first five perfections are the accumulation of merit, and the latter is the accumulation of wisdom. The first three are the cause, essence, and function of the discipline of morality. Samadhi is the mind, wisdom is the discipline of wisdom, and diligence is the friend of all. As it says in the Ornament of the Sutras: Having mastered the three trainings, the Victorious Ones have truly explained the six perfections. The first three, the latter two, are divided into two categories. One also belongs to all three. Generosity and morality are the accumulation of merit. Wisdom is the accumulation of wisdom. The other three are both. All five are also the accumulation of wisdom. Thus. And as it says in the Bodhicharyavatara: All these limbs, the Buddha has said, are for the sake of wisdom. Thus. According to the Ornament of the Sutras, generosity is merit, wisdom is wisdom, the other four are both, or the first is merit, and the remaining five are wisdom. Although this is asserted, here it is according to the Bodhicharyavatara. Therefore, whatever virtue is done, the preliminary practice is the generation of bodhichitta, and the main practice is the realization of no self-nature.
