Thus it is said. Accumulated wealth cannot redeem, the precious jewels of the gods, the kingdom of the wheel-turning king, the treasure troves of the rich, all must be left behind to go. In that very text, it says: When a tree falls, what use are the branches and leaves? Likewise, when a person dies, what use is all that is held onto? Thus it is said. Relatives cannot redeem, even if one obtains a friend who is a wheel-turning king, even if a wife is surrounded by five hundred goddesses, even if children play with a thousand celestial youths, even if the maternal uncle is the lord of the gods, even if the government consists of Asura soldiers, even if the kingdom is the four continents of the heavenly realm, even if the possessions are the seven precious jewels, even if the parents are Brahma and Indra, even if the friends are the four great kings, even if the servants are thousands of divine servants, none of them can hold onto life, or provide help, or extend life, or offer assistance in times of need, or be a friend. One must go alone, like plucking a hair from butter, without anyone to accompany one on the perilous path of the bardo. In the Sutra Requested by the Daughter Ratna, it says: When the time of death arrives, neither father nor mother, nor relatives, nor children can become protectors, neither youth nor strength. Thus it is said. In the Extensive Play Sutra, it says: When the time of death and transference from here to another place occurs, one separates from the poor and suffering beings. Having died, one does not return, nor will one meet again, like leaves falling from a tree, like a flowing stream. Thus it is said. In the Sutra Requested by King Dhritarashtra, it says: In this place, with all constant suffering, there is nothing that cannot be quickly separated from. Thus it is said. In the Manjushri Play Sutra, it says: Parents are not your protectors, nor are friends and relatives. They will abandon you, and you alone will go to the next life. Thus it is said. The physical prowess of the body cannot redeem, at the time of death it is of no help whatsoever, and one must go. The counsel of the chief cannot redeem, so there is no place to answer with words and debates. The skill of the warrior cannot redeem, so there is no place to fight. The speed of running cannot redeem, so there is no place to escape. The beauty of appearance cannot redeem, so there is no place to deceive. The power of action cannot redeem, so there is no place to create. The cunning of evil cannot redeem, so there is no place to evade, one must go alone.

Therefore, it is said in the Vinaya Sutra: "Even the powerful and high-ranking gods who dwell here, the long-lived gods, will also decay when their lifespan is exhausted. Who can escape from death today? Heroes and brave men cannot save. Kings who are diligent in vows and practice asceticism, those who are diligent and brave in their work, those with vast retinues and wisdom, how can they not escape from death?" So it is said. Powerful and strong relatives cannot save, such as Brahma, Indra, Ishvara, Vishnu, sages, sons of the desireless, etc., who are powerful, have not escaped death. The power of yakshas, rakshasas, demons, and nagas cannot save. The methods of doctors, academics, and divination cannot save. The power of mantras, vidyas, siddhis, and clairvoyance cannot save. The protection of male gods, dharma protectors, and dakinis cannot save. The power of taking essences, substances, and medicines is of no use and one must die. As it is said in that very sutra: "The powerful, wealthy, and famous, Brahma, Indra, Vishnu, the dark, evil-sounding, savior son, they also cannot stop death. Ultimately, practitioners, medicines, all mantras, armies, gods, protectors, dependent arising, wealth, and relatives cannot save." So it is said. Food, clothing, and enjoyment cannot save. Such as the nectar of the gods, the sweet dew, the wonderful clothes of Pancalika, the best food of humans with a hundred flavors, silk and satin, and various wonderful clothes. In short, beautiful appearance, pleasant sound, fragrant smell, delicious taste, soft touch, etc., cannot save, but must be the end of life. In the Extensive Play Sutra it is said: "Constantly beautiful appearance, most supreme, pleasant sound, extremely fragrant smell, delicious taste, comfortable touch, etc., all beings are bound by the net of evil times. Just as monkeys are bound by the net of hunters, the pleasures of desire are extremely numerous with suffering and harm, with destruction, constantly hostile, with afflictions, like the edge of a sword and poisonous leaves." So it is said. In the Sutra of Advice to the King it is said: "Great King, just as, from the four directions of myself, great mountains, solid, stable, with essence, without cracks, without damage, extremely hard, towering, are pressed upon by four mountain peaks, when they collapse, grass and trees and
