Thus it is. Thus it is. From the time samsara appears, the nature of impermanence of compounded phenomena has already been established, therefore, it is taught to generate renunciation: All kinds of vessels and beings are changing, like illusions and trees in water, they have no essence. Therefore, this samsara, which is called impermanent, no one can claim as their own and hold on to. The sentient beings, substances, and utensils that appear as the container and its contents, the illusions, happiness, and suffering of samsara, are all impermanent. As it is said in the Extensive Play Sutra: 'Conditioned phenomena are not stable, they are impermanent, like unfired pottery, they are of the nature of destruction. Like imitating the wealth of others, like a sandcastle, it is impermanent.' And as it is said in the Sutra Requested by Ugraparipṛcchā: 'Life is unstable, it is impermanent and moving, like a clay pot, it is subject to destruction.' Therefore, all compounded phenomena of samsara are impermanent and without essence. As it is said in the Extensive Play Sutra: 'The qualities of desire are fleeting, like illusions and mirages, they are false, like water bubbles, they have no essence, you should know that they arise from conceptual thought.' Therefore, generate renunciation towards the certainty of destruction: In the belly of the impermanent Yama, the three realms, together with their abodes, revolve continuously under his control. They do not go elsewhere, they cling and are attached to this place. The Lord of Death always holds them tightly. From the moment of birth, they are destined to die. The companions of the six realms who revolve continuously, is it not better to leave from here now? Let us go together to the city of liberation. There, it is adorned with the wealth of the immortal victorious ones, the nature of constant peace and happiness is naturally accomplished. This is the concluding verse. In the chapter on the small example of samsara, in the Root Vinaya Sutra, the Basis of Abodes, it is said: 'All of this is seized by the impermanent rakshasa.' Generate renunciation with the certainty of reason: Because the four elements are combined, the container and its contents are subject to destruction. The city of sentient beings that moves will decay. These impermanent compounded phenomena are caused by the aggregation of causes and conditions, and the impermanence that is not created by humans, such as water bubbles, etc., appear as vessels, and examples of impermanent changes, such as clouds, lightning, rainbows, hail, etc., and the impermanence created by humans.

For the foolish, the momentary impermanence is like illusions, magic tricks, and cities of Gandharvas. Regarding the impermanence without a fixed time, one should contemplate one's own lifespan and not be idle for even a moment, but strive in the Dharma. As stated in the *Extensive Play Sutra*: "Conditioned things are impermanent, like the light of a lamp, quickly arising and ceasing, having such a nature. Like the wind, they do not last long, like a water bubble, they are weak and without essence. If there is no movement, upon examination, it is like wood on water. Like an illusion, the mind is easily deceived. Until the stainless Buddha's enlightenment is attained, diligence should never be diminished." And so on. Thinking about the nature of definite impermanence means that because it is encompassed by the four extremes, there is no permanence whatsoever. Since there is no certainty about life, and it is unknown when one will die, one should think from the depths of one's heart that one will definitely die. This support of obtaining a human body is bound by these four extremes, so there is no time for happiness, and one must practice the supreme Dharma. That is, the end of birth is death, the end of gathering is separation, the end of accumulation is exhaustion, and the end of height is falling, so it cannot be trusted and must be abandoned. In particular, one's own body, like a bubble, is sure to perish. It is unknown when one will die, perhaps today, perhaps tomorrow, perhaps tonight, perhaps sleeping here, and after death, there will be no waking up tomorrow, one should think like this. As stated in the *Auspicious Night Sutra*: "Who knows if they will die tomorrow? One should act accordingly today. The great army of the Lord of Death is not your friend." And as stated in the *Engaging in Bodhisattva Deeds*: "It is not right to sit comfortably, saying that one will not die today. The great army of the Lord of Death is not our friend." And as stated in the *Nirvana Sutra*: "This decaying body, with many faults, is subject to destruction. Old age, sickness, and death constantly torment it. Conditioned phenomena are endless, with enemies of change and movement. How can I not die?" And so on. Just like a startled horse, a leaping sheep, running livestock, or a flying bird, death suddenly comes, so all these beings are held. As stated in the *Wise and Foolish Sutra*: "The end of accumulation is exhaustion, the end of gathering is separation, what is done is destroyed, and the living must die." And as stated in the *Extensive Play Sutra*: "Death holds countless hundreds of thousands of beings, for sentient beings, like the water of the ocean.
