All Dharmas arise from relying on a virtuous spiritual friend. A virtuous spiritual friend is obtained through accumulating merit and wisdom throughout countless eons, and thus Dharma is attained. Otherwise, it is even more difficult to encounter than finding the most precious jewel. Therefore, one should always serve with reverence and without weariness. When favorable conditions are met and one's mind is interested in liberation, abandoning meaningless activities and practicing will become a cause for liberation. Apart from virtuous deeds that become the cause of liberation, anything else should be abandoned, and one should strive in the Dharma. Deluded actions are the root of meaningless suffering, are of no benefit at the time of death, and are without essence. Therefore, one must abandon them like a nest of poisonous snakes. All activities other than Dharma should be completely abandoned, and one should strive to practice the sacred Dharma. Whatever worldly activities are done are meaningless and of no benefit at the time of death. The nature of constant mental afflictions is like finding a nest of poisonous snakes, or finding clothes of someone who died from plague, or finding food contaminated with poison. As soon as one realizes its nature, one should immediately abandon it. If one looks outward at worldly phenomena, one sees that everything is being used in the waves of delusion. Encouraging the habit of looking at one's own mind and practicing Dharma, from the song of definite renunciation from samsara, it says: Looking outward at worldly activities, all that is done is the root of meaningless suffering, no matter how one thinks about it, there is no benefit, therefore, one should become accustomed to looking at one's own mind. Thus it is said. The way to abandon non-Dharmic activities is, as stated in the Mahaparinirvana Sutra: Completely abandoning all non-virtuous aspects of Dharma is like how great people such as Jews must avoid impure things. It should be abandoned as if one cannot take a blazing fire with one's hands. It should be abandoned as Brahmins do not eat the meat of cows. It should be abandoned as a person who is full of good food does not desire bad food. It should be abandoned as a Chakravartin king does not meet with low castes. It should be abandoned as a pure monk does not touch a decaying corpse. Thus it is said. Do not put your mind on worldly affairs, but on the Dharma.

Admonition to Diligence: This life's livelihood, friends, consultations, enjoyments, biases, and evil sects, wasting leisure and endowment is digging one's own grave, so they should be abandoned. No matter what worldly affairs are done, there is no great benefit for the future, only sinking into the mire of samsara, having decided this, one should be diligent in the Dharma. Among them, farming has no long-term meaning, it is the livelihood of fields; friendship has no long-term meaning, it is spouses and relatives; enjoyment has no long-term meaning, it is the management of food and wealth; consultation has no long-term meaning, it is this life's fame; strife has no long-term meaning, it is the bias of enemies and friends; sects have no long-term meaning, it is clinging to views. These should be abandoned, not wasting leisure and endowment, from the heart diligently practicing the supreme Dharma. Moreover, living in two homes is busy, it is the basis for falling away from the Dharma, unable to accomplish long-term meaning. First, in a worldly home, there is bias towards enemies and friends, management of children and family, worries about taxes and oppression, running around for food and clothing day and night, doing anything without satisfaction, anything happening not as desired, doing anything without pleasing others, never having a free day, never having a good night's sleep, even so, there is always endless busyness, rarely thinking of the Dharma in one's heart, most of what is done is mixed with sin, this is a great root. The fire of love and hate fills the neighborhood, children are the ropes of repaying debts, their strength is strong, whatever is done increases suffering, the burden is heavy, one's own suffering is unbearable, yet one cannot tolerate others being happier than oneself, because such situations are countless, therefore one is far from the Dharma. In the Sutra Requested by Bodhisattva Lion's Roar, it says: Home is the abode of afflictions, destroying all white dharmas. So it is said. Living in two homes, being taken in by renunciants is also the nature of suffering. Abandoning the small home to enter the large home, managing business and agriculture, being a servant to cattle and livestock, being busy for the increase of wealth, laboring for old age and death, consultations among relatives and friends, clinging to the attachment of sensual pleasures, enjoying the pleasures of food and drink, constructing dwellings and cities, endless busyness and distraction, day and night in an environment of love and hate, bearing the burden of scheming among superiors and subordinates,贪图名利
