It is difficult to obtain leisure that is free from the eight unfavorable conditions, and it is also difficult to be born as a human and to have complete faculties. In the "Liberation of the Brahmin's Superior Heat-Born," it says: It is also difficult to be free from the eight unfavorable conditions! It is also difficult to obtain perfect leisure! It is also difficult to be born as a human! It is also difficult to have complete faculties! It is also difficult to have complete faculties! A good place is a place where the Dharma flourishes, and one has previously made aspirations to practice the Dharma. The karmic connections purified by the power of merit awaken to the Dharma, and one meets and can rely on a noble lama and virtuous spiritual friend. These four great wheels are also difficult to obtain. In the "Letter to a Friend," it says: To rely on a noble person, to dwell in a suitable place, and to have made good aspirations and accumulated merit in the past, you possess these four great wheels. It is also difficult to always do good without being turned away by the end of karma. It is also difficult to enter the teachings with faith. It is also difficult to associate with many noble friends who practice according to the Dharma. Therefore, if we do not practice the Dharma when we have obtained such leisure, it will be difficult to obtain such leisure in the future, and it will be rare to encounter the Dharma. In the "Guide to the Bodhisattva's Way of Life," it says: This leisure is very difficult to obtain, and it is obtained to accomplish the purpose of human life. If I do not accomplish benefit in this, how will I obtain this leisure again in the future? It is said. Thinking about the reasons why these are difficult to obtain, there are eight. First, thinking about the difficulty of obtaining freedom from the unfavorable conditions: Hell, hungry ghosts, animals, long-lived gods, barbarians, wrong views, those without a Buddha, and mutes, these eight are not vessels for the Dharma. That is, because there is no leisure to practice the Dharma, it is called a place of no leisure. Among these, there are eight places of no leisure due to one's own nature and basis, and eight places of no leisure due to temporary circumstances. The first eight are: hell beings, hungry ghosts, and animals, these three are not free because they are tormented by their own suffering. Long-lived gods are not free because the basis for hearing and thinking is blocked. Barbarians are not free because they have no light of the Dharma. Those who hold wrong views, the heretics, are not free because their views are wrong. Those without a Buddha

Those born in a degenerate age are not free because they cannot even hear the sound of the Three Jewels. A mute person is not free because their mind does not turn towards the Dharma. There are eight types of unfreedom due to immediate circumstances: Disturbed by the five poisons, foolish and deluded, possessed by demons, lazy, overwhelmed by a great ocean of bad karma, controlled by others, fearing for their lives, and pretending to practice Dharma. These are the eight types of unfreedom due to immediate circumstances. They are unsuitable vessels for the Dharma of the path to liberation, completely perverse. Even if someone is born as a human being and in a place where they can practice the Dharma, they are still not free if they are constantly disturbed by the five poisons, if they are foolish and deluded, led astray by evil friends, if they are possessed by demons due to perverse views and actions, if they are lazy and lack diligence even if they want to study the Dharma, if they are burdened by negative karma and unable to generate merit even if they are diligent, if they are slaves controlled by others without freedom, if they enter the Dharma for the sake of food and clothing in this life or out of fear of harm, but still engage in non-Dharmic activities due to old habits, or if they are hypocrites who pretend to practice Dharma in order to gain wealth, respect, and fame. These eight types of people are also not free to practice the sacred Dharma. Therefore, they have no connection with the path to liberation, and it is said to be perverse because they waste their precious human life. There are eight types of unfreedom due to a degenerate mind: Bound by strong attachments, with extremely bad behavior, not fearing samsara, having no faith, engaging in non-virtuous and sinful actions, and having no interest in the Dharma. These are called the eight types of unfreedom due to a degenerate mind. They are far from the Dharma, and the lamp of the path to liberation is extinguished. They are tightly bound by attachments to wealth, possessions, children, property, relatives, and so on in this life. They have no foundation for being human due to their bad nature, and their behavior is completely unacceptable. They never develop fear when hearing about the suffering of the lower realms and samsara, or even the suffering of this life. They have no faith even when praising liberation and the Three Jewels or seeing virtuous objects. They enjoy non-virtuous and sinful actions, so their three doors of body, speech, and mind cannot be tamed. And the appearance of merit, virtue, and the sacred Dharma
