Even so. Here, it refers to grasping the causes of pleasure and pain, up to the point where actual pleasure and pain have not arisen. This period is short. Feeling is generally just experience, but here it refers to the pleasure and pain from experiencing coarse pleasure and pain in the womb, up to the point of being unable to engage in sexual activity. Craving is generally just attachment, but here it refers to the period from being able to engage in sexual activity up to the point of having no desire to seek wealth, women, or men, which is a short time. Grasping is generally just desire and lust, but here it refers to the period of seeking an object of craving and not finding it. Existence is generally all actions, but here it refers to accumulating the actions that accomplish the next life by finding and enjoying that object, up to the point of death. Birth is generally all births from causes, but here it refers to the moment of entering the womb in the next life by the power of that action. Aging and death are generally all that tends to decay and all decay, but here it refers to everything from entering that womb until the completion of the four: name and form, the six sense sources, contact, and feeling in the next life. From that existence, the beginning of other dependent origination is initiated. As the Treasury of Knowledge says: Ignorance and so on, the prior state, Actions are past actions, Consciousness is the connecting aggregate, Name and form are after that, The six sense sources arise up to this point, This is the union of three up to this point, Contact is of pleasure and pain and so on, The ability to know the cause up to this point, Feeling is craving up to sexual activity, Enjoyment is the craving of those with lust, Close grasping is all enjoyments, Running for the sake of obtaining, That existence is the action that will produce the result, Connecting is birth, Between feeling is aging and death, To dispel ignorance in the past, future, and present, it is said. Thus. The classification is: These twelve are condensed into three: action, affliction, and suffering. Ignorance, craving, and grasping are the three afflictions. Action and existence are the two actions. Consciousness and the remaining seven are suffering. As Nagarjuna said: The first, eighth, and ninth are afflictions, The second and tenth are actions, The remaining seven are also suffering. Thus it is said. In how many lifetimes is it completed?

In terms of quantity, there are three. As stated in the Treasury of Knowledge: "The wheel of existence has no beginning, the twelve branches of interdependent origination are divided into three parts, with two branches at the beginning and end, and eight branches in the middle are complete." The method of practice is: observing the bones in the charnel ground, thinking that this is the result of death, and death arises from aging, and from this to ignorance, thereby realizing the arising order of the twelve links of dependent origination. Furthermore, contemplate that if ignorance ceases, then aging and death cease, which is the reverse practice. In terms of conduct, the Shravakas and Pratyekabuddhas, between the path of accumulation, through hearing and thinking about the teachings of virtuous friends. The Pratyekabuddha, due to the lack of the power of lineage, therefore likes to stay away from the hustle and bustle, and achieves his own Bodhi through meditation. The fruit of accomplishment, like a parrot, if gathered together, the conduct is that people with dull faculties and shallow merits practice together, and may obtain the fruit in three lifetimes, and the fastest is at the end of the three realms of existence. Here, the two situations of large and small conduct when gathered together are also described. Like a rhinoceros, a person with sharp faculties and great merits practices alone, and it takes a hundred great kalpas to achieve the fruit. Therefore, it is said: "The rhinoceros needs to practice for a hundred kalpas." Therefore, accumulating merits on the basis of the path of accumulation, realizing the five paths on one seat, is therefore considered to have sharp faculties. The former cannot do it, so it is dull. As stated in the Treasury of Knowledge: "The Shravakas, Pratyekabuddhas, and Bodhisattvas all rely on one meditation as the boundary." Among them, the Shravaka Arhats and the dull-rooted Pratyekabuddhas, with their supernatural powers, can see two thousand worlds and even three thousand worlds. The Pratyekabuddha like a rhinoceros can see three thousand worlds, and the Buddha can see countless worlds. As stated in the Treasury of Knowledge: "Arhats, rhinoceroses, Shravakas, etc., see two thousand, three thousand, and countless." Pratyekabuddhas have both increasing and decreasing situations. That is, during the period when the Buddha has passed away and the Shravakas have also disappeared, due to the maturation of their past aspirations, realization naturally arises in the continuum, thereby obtaining the fruit. As stated in the Root Wisdom Treatise: "When all the perfect Buddhas have not appeared, and the Shravaka disciples have also disappeared, the wisdom of the Pratyekabuddha arises spontaneously without relying on others." Detailed information about these can be found in my treatise The Great Chariot of Definitive Meaning.
