My appearing in different times is an illusion. The refutation of mental factors has four aspects: general refutation, individual refutation, the refutation of perception, and the refutation of memory. The first has two aspects: the refutation of one and different. The first is: if mind and mental factors are one, then in name, different entities are not established, and like mental factors, mind would sever the distinctions of pervasive factors, and like mind, mental factors would analyze their own nature, and the numbers would be confused with each other, resulting in six or fifty-one, and it would become the same as the general characteristic. If they are different, then the definition is not appropriate, and it would become many parts later, it would not be appropriate to hold or not hold the general meaning, and they would become mutually non-pervasive. Individual refutation has three aspects: essence, aspect, and sound meaning are not appropriate. First, mind and one or different do not follow, so the five pervasive factors are not established. Object and object-possessor, contact or no contact, simultaneous or not simultaneous, are not allowed, so the five object-determinations are not established. The basis of reliance, goodness itself, is negated, so the eleven goodnesses are not established. Afflictions are not the doer of afflictions, so root afflictions and near afflictions are not established. If they are different and simultaneous, then there is no actual mutual benefit, so other transformations, the four, etc., and all the previous ones are also negated. Second, if the aspects of each difference are taken as objects, there is no other and no other, then mental factors cannot exist, and if these are established as other and other, then the consciousness that completely cuts off all aspects of the object will not be established. Third, the sound meaning is also not appropriate, the term 'mental factor' is not allowed, if it arises from contact with the mind, it will become the mind, and if it does not contact, it is not allowed to be a mental factor, and since contact is not established, it is not established as a mental factor, and for one thing, there are no two, the producer and the produced, and it is forbidden to arise from different entities simultaneously, and if it arises from different times, then simultaneity will disappear. In the Ornament of the Sutras, it says: The nature of mind appears as two, appearing as attachment, etc., appearing as faith, etc., from afflictions, virtuous dharmas do not exist. And in the Two Examinations, it says: Essence is formless, the seer, soundless, also the hearer, odorless, also the smeller, tasteless, also the taster, touchless, also the toucher, without mind, there are also no mental factors.

Thus, it is said in the scriptures that all phenomena encompassed by the five aggregates are empty in nature, like illusions. As the Heart Sutra states: "Likewise, the five aggregates should be viewed as empty by their very nature." Form is emptiness; emptiness is form. Form is not different from emptiness; emptiness is not different from form. Similarly, feeling, perception, volition, and consciousness are also empty. Furthermore, as the Commentary on the Mind states: "Those who wish for benefit have declared that the aggregates of form, feeling, perception, volition, and consciousness are taught to the Hearers. The supreme among bipeds always said that form appears like a bubble or a mass of foam, feeling is like a water bubble, perception is like a mirage, volition is like the trunk of a banana tree, and consciousness is like an illusion. Such is the nature of the five aggregates, taught to the Bodhisattvas." Thus it is. Among these, the nominalists who look outward consider form and so on, like a pillar, to be empty of self-nature. They consider it unreasonable to speak of "appearance-emptiness," as it would lead to faults such as "appearance is seen, emptiness is seen." The yogis who realize inwardly consider form to be empty because the object of the mind is empty. Even though the appearance of an object arises in the mind, since form has no self-characteristic, that form empties the mind, so they explain that emptiness is form. The form appearing to the mind and the mind appearing to form are internal; the form emptied by the mind and the object emptied by form are external. Like illusions and dreams, because they transcend one and different, they consider that form is not different from emptiness, and emptiness is not different from form. Refuting perception: The objects of perception, such as good and bad, large and small, are established only in relation to each other and are not established in reality. Moreover, for the same object, some find it pleasing, while others do not, and so on, which is only due to following internal habits. Furthermore, since the object is not established in any way, whether subtle or gross, the perception that takes the object as its object is also false. Like falsehood, if its own nature is examined, it is also solitary. As it is said in the sutra: "To the extent that there is perception, to that extent there is falsehood." Thus it is. Refuting memory has three aspects: the past object is not established in general, superimposition, and contradiction in being an object of action. First, the memory of a pot, the image of seeing the pot before in the mind,
