I am my own protector, who else could be my protector? The actions I have done, I alone will experience. Thus it is said. Although it is so, that self is not this aggregate, nor does it exist separately from the aggregate. It cannot be said to be permanent, nor can it be said to be impermanent. Consciousness does not recognize itself and the object, because the mind does not recognize itself, because the knower and the known are non-dual. However, it is known by others. The recognition of the object is not recognized by the mind, because the mind is unimpeded, and if the mind could recognize, it would fall into the fault of being able to recognize the intervening realm. However, it is recognized by the sense faculty itself. However, it is not recognized by all the sense faculties, but by the consciousness that possesses a basis. As it is said in the Treasury of Knowledge: 'The forms of the eye, etc., possess a seeing place, not the consciousness that relies on it. Why? Because the forms, etc., that are separated, have no seeing.' Thus it is said. The name and the signified are different, like using white ash and dung to symbolize a cow, these three cannot be one entity. If the dung and white ash were one, then the agent would become one, and the cow and the agent would also become one, so it cannot be the name and the signified. Just as barley, flour, and the person grinding flour cannot be one. However, like three people, there are three different things. The substance that is not wasted is made from the distinction of obtaining non-associated formations, called the substance that is not wasted, like a loan letter, which is different from form, mind, and mental factors that do not indicate the basis and source. Even if it ceases, it can still produce results. They also abide separately in this life. At the time of death, the virtuous and non-virtuous of the desire realm merge into one. The non-wasting substances of the desire realm, form realm, formless realm, and the unpolluted, etc., are combined into one substance and the life is transferred. Even though the karma ripens, the non-wasting substance does not cease but remains, like the loan letter of samsara has not been erased. When does it cease? When the non-wasting substances of the stream-enterer's stage, etc., cease at the time of the once-returner's attainment, so it ceases when the result is transferred. It also ceases by transcending the realms, that is, when the non-returner is born in the form realm and the formless realm, only the non-wasting substance of the desire realm ceases. When the remainder is attained, all attainments cease, that is, transcending all of the three realms.

Therefore. As the Root Wisdom says: Power is comprehended as its extent, Not eating is like owing a debt, That is fourfold from the realm, That also is by nature unindicated. Abandoning is not true abandonment, Cultivation is also what is to be abandoned, The ripening also abides, Because the realm is the same, the parts are the same, All the different parts, At the time of that connection, Only one is born. Thus it is. In short, it is asserted that all things that cannot be expressed by different dharmas are pervaded by one entity. To refute this, as in the previous seven cases. Among the refutations of the five objects of knowledge, the first, the refutation of form, has nine aspects: Definition, arising, sense faculty, object, indication, obstruction, non-different substance, the ability to produce sound, and non-cognition. First, for the coarse causal form, contact, parts, and directions are negated. If the minute space and the solid earth are one, then there is no difference in the parts of the dust; if there is a difference, then there is no solidity either. Being moistened by water, burned by fire, and moved by wind are also negated when the two are considered together. The five sense faculties of the resultant form are also unreasonable, because smell and so on have been negated. If one can see without contact, it would be too extreme, because the eye would hear sound. If there is a sense faculty of the body that is a different entity from the body, then it is not an obstructive thing, and it would see things. Because the body and touch follow each other, the object cannot be cognized, and feelings would not be experienced simultaneously. If the sense faculty can cognize the object, then it would become mind and mental factors. In refuting the object, there are three: Refuting the objects of form, sound, and touch. First, the shape of form is not established, even if it is just the aggregation of particles of color, it has no parts. There is no small and large, because they are relative, and they cannot be established by the cognition of contact. Color also does not exist, because if the dust is analyzed, the parts of color are not established. Second, when sound is heard, is it heard from the direction of the west, like seeing a pot, is it hearing the sound where the sound originates? Or is it like shooting an arrow, is the continuity of the sound gradually moving from east to west and being heard? The first is unreasonable, because after drumming for a while, the sound is heard, so the sound heard would become inverted. Moreover, since consciousness is unobstructed, it will not be obstructed by the wind.
