Those who believe that there will be no other incarnations except by abandoning the head are also refuted. Now, to elaborate on the individual characteristics of the Hearer Vehicle's schools of thought: there are only two types of individual characteristics, namely the Vaibhashika and the Sautrantika. Among them, the Sautrantika is so called because the Buddha, considering that the beings to be tamed have sharp faculties and are close to enlightenment, taught with various intentions, but those who are foolish and can only see this shore cannot understand and determine it, and can only temporarily believe the scriptures. In order to understand and determine its intention, there is the treatise "Great Vaibhasha," so those who follow and claim to faithfully believe it as it is are the Vaibhashikas. There are also those who believe that treatises are made by people and may not have impartially used their own thinking, so they are unreliable, and therefore only the sutras spoken by the Buddha with unobstructed eyes should be taken as authoritative. Therefore, those who follow the sutras are called Sautrantikas. Among them, first, the Vaibhashikas believe that the objects of knowledge are the five aggregates, etc., and the understanding of the seven topics is not correct. First, for the Vaibhashikas, although there are many tenets, they mainly acknowledge seven: the objects of knowledge are the five aggregates, destruction is a different entity, the three times are real, the inexpressible self, consciousness cannot know itself and its object, names and meanings are different, and matter that does not run out. First, all objects of knowledge are determined to be the five aggregates: form, feeling, perception, formation, and consciousness. Among them, the nature of form is that it can become form, and it is divided into four types of causal form and eleven types of resultant form, totaling fifteen types. The Abhidharmakosha says: "Form is the five senses and the five objects, and non-manifest form." The four types of causal form are earth, water, fire, and wind. The eleven types of resultant form are the five sense organs of eye, ear, nose, tongue, and body; the five objects of form, sound, smell, taste, and touch; and non-manifest form. Non-manifest form is invisible and unobstructed. It also refers to the vows that arise continuously in distraction to objects, and in mindless absorption, the vows that continuously produce good karma, the non-vows that continuously produce bad karma, and the continuous production of good and non-good in between.

It is certain to arise. As stated in the Abhidharmakosha: 'Distraction and absence of mind, any association with virtue and non-virtue, with the great elements as their cause, that is not called non-manifest form.' And: 'Non-manifest forms are said to be three: vows, non-vows, and others.' The basis of mind is merely knowing objects, namely the six consciousnesses such as eye consciousness. It does not apprehend hidden objects as the Sautrantikas do, because vases and so on are actually seen. When apprehending objects, the eye, ear, and mind apprehend vases and so on that are far away, while the nose, tongue, and body apprehend the number of particles of the object and the particles of the sense faculty as equal when they come into contact with the object. As it says in that very text: 'The eye, mind, and ear do not come into contact with the object; the three are elsewhere. The nose and the others consider the object to be equal.' Thus it is. The basis of mental factors is apprehending the distinctions of objects, which are divided into fifty-one: contact, attention, feeling, perception, and intention, these are the five omnipresent; desire, conviction, mindfulness, concentration, and wisdom, these are the five object-specific; faith, shame, embarrassment, non-attachment, non-hatred, non-ignorance, diligence, pliancy, conscientiousness, equanimity, and non-harmfulness, these are the eleven virtuous; desire, anger, pride, ignorance, view, and doubt, these are the six root afflictions; wrath, resentment, concealment, spite, envy, stinginess, deceit, cunning, arrogance, harmfulness, shamelessness, lack of embarrassment, lethargy, excitement, lack of faith, laziness, recklessness, forgetfulness, distraction, and non-alertness, these are the twenty secondary afflictions; sleep, regret, investigation, and analysis, these are the four variable. In total, there are fifty-one: feeling, thought, perception, desire, contact, intelligence, memory, attention, conviction, concentration, all minds.
