They have completely refuted the views of the Naked Ascetics. Now, to determine the nature of the Pūraṇas: The Pūraṇas, relying on seven wrong paths, follow the sky, deceiving themselves and others, harming the world. Those Pūraṇas who follow the chief of the gods, taking the seven tenets such as the absence of past and future lives as their standard, favoring the side of emptiness and no-mind, are clearly demonstrating harm to themselves and others in this life and the next, truly deceiving the world. As the Doha says: 'Emptiness and no-mind are the image of the path of harm, acting oneself for the sake of liberation is deception.' Here, it is necessary to determine their doctrine: Previously, in the realm of the gods, when the Asuras initiated war, because they held cause and effect as the standard, no one was willing to fight. At that time, the chief of the gods, the sage Pūraṇa, composed a treatise called 'The Essence of Slandering All Views,' which was later spread to the human realm by Grokhara, who revered Pūraṇa as the teacher, and worshiped Indra and the sun and moon. They adhere to treatises such as 'The Essence of Views' and the 'Six Tantras of Pūraṇa,' abandoning past and future lives, seeking only the benefits of this life, therefore they are annihilationists; they believe that there are no past and future lives, only this life, therefore they are materialists; they believe that there is no karma and no unseen beings, therefore they are nihilists; they believe that whatever is pleasant and beautiful in this life should be done, therefore they are hedonists; they worship the sun as a god, therefore they are solarists; they worship the moon as a god, therefore they are lunarists; they worship Indra as a god, therefore they are Indrists; they revere Pūraṇa as the teacher, therefore they are the Pūraṇas. Although their common wishes and methods of fulfillment differ according to the gods, they all claim that their tenets and doctrines are consistent. Their views are seven: they believe that the four elements are ultimately real; they believe that body and mind are one substance; they believe that there are no past and future lives; they believe that there is no karma; they believe that there is no liberation and no omniscience; they believe that there are no unseen beings; they believe that inference is not a valid means of knowledge. The first view is: the four elements of earth, water, fire, and wind are ultimately real, and the mind is the nature of the body's energy, appearing from clear matter, arising simultaneously with the formation of the body, therefore it is the substance of the body, the body's pleasure and pain.

Because the mind arises after that, and desires, etc., increase and decrease following the rise and fall of the body, and also because the mind aches when pierced by weapons. There is no past or future life because body and mind are the same substance, the two arise simultaneously or many arise simultaneously, there is no habit of words, and there is no return. Moreover, when the body decomposes into particles, the mind does not transmigrate elsewhere. By the coexistence of the two, it can be proven that there is no coming from other worlds. Following the conditions of the body, many minds arise, and since one knows nothing at birth, one must learn later. If there were a previous life, there would be no need to learn, just as one does not forget previous knowledge when waking from sleep. Some do not return after death, so there is no past or future life. Moreover, the mind does not exist before or after the body, because body and substance are indistinguishable, like wine and the taste of wine. The taste of wine also arises with the grain during brewing, it is not transferred from before the wine and then enters into it. Furthermore, the pot is not coming from another world, whether it is a person or the pot itself, the two coexist, because it is not a lotus, like a wall. For the pot, it is established that it is not a lotus, and when the pot is placed next to the wall, it is established that it is pervaded by anything, because the pot is contradictory to the pot itself, so it can only be a person. Furthermore, if a pile of flesh like Mount Meru is piled up, and it rains there for seven days continuously, then only a pile of worms the size of the pile of flesh will be produced, then do the minds of so many sentient beings die or come from other places at the same time? It is not so. Because there is no previous life, there is no habit of words for it, so it is necessary to first teach children language. There is also no future life, because the dead old people do not return. Therefore, all sentient beings do not transmigrate from other places, but like mushrooms in a meadow, when the body suddenly forms from the union of parents, the mind forms from its clear particles. And at the time of death, the powers of the elements weaken, just as a lamp dies when the oil runs out, the four elements dissolve into their respective natures, and the mind dissolves into the emptiness of the sky.
