Now, it is formed by the winds of superior, middling, and inferior qualities. Mount Meru, with its precious four sides, has four tiers. Silver, lapis lazuli, ruby, and gold. They make the skies of the four directions equally resplendent. Among the four tiers of Mount Meru, the lowest is: Vajra in nature, from the inner Mount Meru. Its width exceeds sixteen thousand yojanas. Know that the water is three times its size. The second tier is the variegated layer, exceeding eight thousand yojanas in width. The third is the radiant crystal, exceeding four thousand yojanas. The fourth is the wheel-stacked layer, exceeding two thousand yojanas. From the waterline, it is half of Mount Meru. Mount Meru rises eighty thousand yojanas above the water. In the water, the mountains and continents are all the same. Eighty thousand yojanas are submerged in the water, situated on the golden foundation. The seven golden mountains encircle in a square shape: The Yoke-Holder Mountain, and likewise the Plow-Holder Mountain. The Good-Holder Mountain, and the Beautiful Mountain. The Horse-Ear Mountain, the Bent Mountain, the Axis-Holder Mountain. The inner mountains reach half the height of the outer mountains' peaks. The width is also the same as the height above the water. The surrounding mountain is made of iron. It is said that its height reaches half of the Axis-Holder Mountain. The characteristics of the lakes within these mountains are: Rain falls as thick as a chariot axle. The lakes fill all the gaps between the mountains and continents. The realm of the pretas also exists as if competing with the hot hells. There is no certainty in the daytime abode, and the vicinity is the retinue of the hot hells. Below the city of the king of the pretas, beyond five hundred yojanas is the root location. Branches also exist in the worlds of gods and humans. The general abode of animals is the great ocean, scattered in the places of gods and humans. The heavens, the four continents and subcontinents, are different because of the residence of rakshasas. Among the two heavenly abodes, the desire realm gods have six abodes, the four great king's retinues reside in the Sumeru mountain steps and the palaces of the sun, moon, and stars. Halfway up Mount Sumeru are the sun, moon, and stars. The solar disc is fifty-one yojanas, its base is fire crystal, and its edge is made of gold. The lunar disc is fifty yojanas, its base is water crystal, and its edge is made of silver. Within both are the cities of the gods, with gardens, ponds, and roads made of precious jewels. Showers of flowers naturally fall to knee-height, discarding the old and clearly displaying the new. The collection of stars is also the essence of water crystal, a city of gods well-surrounded by golden walls, ranging from one to six yojanas in distance. Some are made of gold, bronze, water crystal, and rock crystal, ranging from one to eighteen yojanas in distance. On top of Mount Sumeru reside the Thirty-Three Gods, including the Unmixed, Garland-Blazing, and Most Glorious, etc. There are thirty-two nearby retinue abodes, and the main abode, the realm of the Thirty-Three Gods. The width of the four sides of the summit of Mount Sumeru, on top of each side being eighty thousand yojanas, there are villages, lands, trees, and assembly places. In the center is the supreme Palace of Complete Victory, each side being two hundred and fifty yojanas, surrounded by a thousand cities of the gods, rising five and a half yojanas in height, with eight eaves and seven tiers of buildings. Each of those has seven residences. Outside are gardens and precious ponds, and outside that is a beautiful city, each side being two thousand five hundred yojanas, and two and a half high, made of gold.
