If we observe an assembly, it merely appears as a collection of pots, but if we seek a pot that is truly and inherently established from each of its components, the assembly, and their distinct functions, it becomes clear that each component is not a pot. The assembly is merely an appearance placed upon the components, and upon careful examination, nothing inherently true can be found. If the pot existed separately from its components (such as the spout and belly), it should change independently of these components, which is impossible. Moreover, upon careful thought and analysis, one becomes certain that a truly self-established pot has never existed anywhere. Similarly, if all phenomena of samsara and nirvana are analyzed in this way, it will be found that they all depend on their respective components and merely appear as their respective characteristics. Apart from this, none of them have any inherently true existence, but are merely emptiness, like the expanse of the sky. This state of certainty, once attained, should be well maintained without wavering. If this certainty begins to fade, it should be sought again through analysis and meditation, alternating between the two as before. Secondly, regarding the unique non-conceptual meditation on freedom from elaboration (spros bral mi rtog pa) of our own tradition: Generally, all the phenomena encompassed by the external and internal that appear to us are merely illusions arising in the deluded minds of individual beings. From the ultimate perspective, there has never been a substantial, independently existing external object. However, due to our deeply ingrained habit of clinging to external objects (such as forms) as real since beginningless time, it is like dreaming where the dreamscape lacks external reality, yet the dream's illusion makes it appear real. For ordinary people, the appearance of forms and other external objects is merely an appearance of being truly and independently existent. Therefore, all these appearances arise from the play of the fundamental mind, and there is nothing that can dominate them other than the mind. Thus, if the mind is peaceful, everything is peaceful; if the mind is tamed, everything is tamed. Trying to tame and pacify things from the side of the objects is difficult and what is the need for such toiling? Know that the nature of our clear mind, like impurities in gold or sediment in water, can be removed or purified from adventitious stains, i.e., the elaborations of conceptual thought and afflictions. The mind... --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

No self-affirming school within our own tradition asserts that adventitious defilements enter into the very nature of mind. Just as it is the common view of all Mahāyāna schools to establish the wisdom that knows all aspects as a consciousness free from all defilements, so too is it the case with our own system at present. The nature of the clear light of mind at the ground level, or the way of being of its intrinsic nature, is the stainless, clear awareness, the unchanging wisdom of inner awareness, the self-arisen awareness of the nature of reality, which from the very beginning abides as its own inherent, never-changing essence. This very nature, in which the three kāyas of the buddhas are present in an indivisible state of ground and fruition, is the tathāgatagarbha (the essence of the Sugata), the nature of mind. Therefore, the method for manifesting its own radiance as it is, is like the example of muddy water clearing itself. Although a correct view that is free from all fabrication and destruction is crucial, it is not possible to achieve this from the very beginning. Therefore, initially, by taking the present consciousness as merely the essence of clarity and awareness, and by recognizing the aspects of mind-abiding, mind-moving, and mind-knowing, one seeks a place of abiding and never separates from mindfulness and awareness. Through gradually cultivating the stages of experience of movement, attainment, habituation, and stability, one accomplishes mind-abiding. On top of that, by allowing the mind to relax naturally and spontaneously, one entrusts the movement of conceptual thoughts to the very nature of awareness, and without being tainted by even the slightest elaboration of experience and appearance, one rests equally in the clarity and emptiness that is free from all grasping and fabrication. In this way, the self-existing wisdom of non-conceptual awareness, which transcends the realm of conventional sounds and concepts, and is free from all speech, thought, and expression, gradually becomes manifest. Therefore, one must strive to single-pointedly abide in the state of non-conceptualization as described above. Secondly, regarding analysis: In general, in India, Buddhism is divided into the Śrāvakayāna schools of the Vaibhāṣika and Sautrāntika, and the Mahāyāna schools of the Yogācāra and Madhyamaka. The latter is further divided into the Yogācāra and Madhyamaka, and the Madhyamaka is further divided into the Svātantrika-Madhyamaka and the Prāsaṅgika-Madhyamaka, the latter being our own system. These schools also have different views on what is to be abandoned and what is to be adopted as an antidote. That is to say, according to the schools below the Svātantrika-Madhyamaka, the root of all afflictions is the grasping of the person (pudgala) as an independently existing entity, and the antidote to abandon it is the wisdom that realizes the emptiness of the person as an independently existing entity, and the object of the pure antidote path. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
