4-260 It is what reverses the mind that is attached to the happiness and wealth of samsara (Tibetan: 'khor ba, Sanskrit: samsara, English: cyclic existence). In general, the fruits of black and white karma gradually bring happiness and suffering. In particular, the fruits of virtuous actions with outflows (Tibetan: zag bcas, Sanskrit: sasrava, English: with outflows, i.e., contaminated by ignorance) also ultimately become the cause of suffering. Their own nature is also close to the nature of suffering. Having a firm conviction about this, one sees that all the happiness and wealth of samsara have no essence whatsoever, and the clinging and attachment gradually loosen. Second, the method of contemplating the faults of samsara is: In general, the container and contents included in the three realms (Tibetan: khams gsum, Sanskrit: triloka, English: three realms [of desire, form, and formless]), from the peak of existence (Tibetan: srid rtse, Sanskrit: bhavagra, English: peak of existence) to the Avici hell (Tibetan: mnar med, Sanskrit: Avici, English: the hell of incessant suffering), some are objects with outflows that are unpleasant and harmful, and some are objects with outflows that are pleasant and beneficial. All of these aggregates with outflows are factors that connect ordinary beings to future suffering. From this perspective, the container and contents of samsara cannot escape the nature of the three sufferings (Tibetan: sdug bsngal gsum, Sanskrit: tridukha, English: three kinds of suffering). No matter where they are born, high or low, they are only places of suffering, with no opportunity for happiness, like a nest of poisonous snakes and a pit of fire. Liberation from samsara, on the other hand, is the complete eradication of all afflictions and the causes of suffering they produce, attaining the peaceful and blissful eternal state of no rebirth. One should direct one's mind well towards these reasons and it is important not to let the mind wander elsewhere. Therefore, a firm conviction that changes from the depths of one's heart about such a situation is what reverses attachment to the happiness and wealth of future samsara. If all of samsara is seen as a burning flame, as the nature of unbearable suffering, then when each of their minds is directed towards these, there will be no opportunity for manifest attachment and craving to arise. 4-261 Second, the method of generating genuine renunciation is: Like this, these five aggregates of ripening (Tibetan: rnam smin, Sanskrit: vipaka, English: fully ripened) produced by karma and afflictions, in general, are the factors that hold all the karmic and afflictive imprints. In particular, relying on them causes endless afflictions such as attachment and aversion to arise, becoming the cause of involuntarily connecting with unbearable endless suffering, thereby making samsara extremely long, even more harmful than the suffering of Avici hell. This should arise from the depths of one's heart, thereby desiring to be liberated from it. And, one should desire to obtain the true... --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Do not allow those afflictions that are the root of endless faults—bad mental states—to arise. Purify all those afflictions that cause degradation, and all the sufferings they produce, making them never occur again. Thus, be captivated by the qualities of the state of eternal bliss in the realm of complete peace, focusing your mind solely on the thought of definitely attaining such a supreme state, striving to change your mind and gradually generate genuine experiences. Secondly, analyze their true nature: The contaminated, pleasant aggregates are the suffering of change, because contaminated feelings of pleasure, with their own basis and objects, deceive ordinary beings, making them appear pleasant, beneficial, happy, and constant. In the end, they involuntarily change from that state, leading to great suffering, therefore they are called the suffering of change. The unpleasant aggregates are the suffering of suffering, because feelings of suffering, with their basis and objects, only create the appearance of suffering for ordinary beings, therefore they are called the suffering of suffering. In general, all contaminated phenomena are the pervasive suffering of conditioning, because the neutral feelings included in contaminated phenomena, as well as all sentient beings and the environment of samsara, inevitably bring many future sufferings to beings in all the higher and lower realms of samsara, directly or indirectly, and accumulate and generate many sufferings, therefore they are called the pervasive suffering of conditioning. Moreover, our present body and mind are called contaminated because our present body and mind in the state of higher realms, which are produced by the accumulated virtuous actions of the past—discipline—as ordinary beings, are initially produced by impure causes contaminated by afflictions such as attachment to self, and these two, as the ripened result, the body and mind, also each become the object and condition for the arising of afflictions for those in samsara. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
