And siblings, know that from the very beginning, karma and afflictions, as well as the wisdom and knowledge of practice, armor and antidotes, are all empty. Understanding that obstacles are unreal means understanding the intent of the Buddha's words in the Sutras and Tantras, the oral instructions of the lineage of gurus, the instructions of Chöd, one's own practice, the three aspects of view, meditation, and action. All the practices in Chöd that serve as antidotes to ghosts and demons should be realized as empty. In short, for the obstructing demons that are cut off externally, the causes that are cut off internally, and the nature of the causes that are cut off secretly, know that all the Dharma practices of their antidotal practice are empty. Emptiness cannot find fault with emptiness, non-existence cannot find fault with non-existence, signlessness cannot find fault with signlessness. All of these should be approached from within emptiness, with the three circles completely purified. Having arrived, the practice is: to cultivate compassion for gods and demons, to cultivate emptiness for fear, and to strike at self-grasping. First, with the local deity of that sacred place as the leader, generally, for all sentient beings who are like the sky, and especially for the gods and demons who create obstacles for me, in order to cultivate immeasurable love and compassion, the cause of compassion is ignorance and afflictions, the condition is not being separated from hatred and cruelty, the result is wandering in the lower realms and evil paths, the action is harming others, the karma is harming sentient beings, the desire is to want happiness, but the accomplishment is creating suffering. These are all pitiable. It should not be just words, but should be remembered from the depths of the heart, the depths of the bones, and the depths of the feet. These sentient beings are so pitiable, may they be endowed with happiness, be separated from suffering, and ultimately attain perfect enlightenment. Recite this one hundred and eight times. Therefore, for the benefit of these beings, I will encourage my body, speech, and mind to do good, and practice this instruction of Chöd. To meditate on emptiness for fear, generally, all phenomena of samsara and nirvana are emptiness, and in particular, the obstructing maras and spirits do not exist as truly established even for a moment. There is no cause for the first arising, no condition for the intermediate action, and no basis for the final abiding, as is said in all the Buddha's Sutras and Tantras.

It is accomplished by the words of the noble Lamas, and it is also clear from one's own experience. Likewise, even if blurry and confusing appearances arise, they are one's own deluded perceptions and wrong thoughts. Why? Because they have no true existence. They are flimsy, unreliable, and without essence. If they existed, there would be gods and demons, and whatever exists must be clearly evident, which proves that there is no basis. There must be an investigation that can withstand scrutiny. If investigated and examined, it will become non-existent, so it should be understood in that way. To strike a blow at self-grasping: In general, one should not be attached to external objects of attachment, such as wealth and possessions, spouses, relatives, and friends. Internal attachment refers to the three aspects of view, meditation, and conduct, experiences and realizations, clairvoyance and signs of accomplishment. Whatever qualities one may have in one's own being, one should not cling to them as "I" or "mine." One should not have attachment, clinging, or arrogance. Intermediate attachment refers to the body and life, lifespan and breath, strength and glory, radiance and splendor, flesh and blood, and whatever one cherishes. All clinging to self, holding onto self, and being unwilling to let go, should be abandoned without any attachment, like discarding filth, throwing away like foreign soil, spitting out like nasal mucus. Whoever likes it can take it. I, Apo (Tibetan for father), don't need even a speck of it. I don't have even a hair's breadth of attachment or clinging. Having said this, one should remain in that state. The practice of the sixth session in the evening is: First, when going to Chö (severance practice), go like a lion without fear or hesitation, go with ferocity like a tigress, go without obstruction like a waterfall from a steep cliff. First, even if all enemies arise from the peak of existence to the hell realms below, awareness is a magical display of the mind. In a state where there is not even a moment of true existence, go without fear or hesitation. Going with ferocity like a tigress means having the experience of understanding emptiness, having the wisdom of knowing non-existence, directing ferocity to awareness, exerting effort in knowledge, shining light on the senses, and displaying roughness in conduct. Uttering (Tibetan: ཕཊཿ, Sanskrit Devanagari: फट्, Sanskrit Romanization: phaṭ, Literal Chinese meaning: pēi!) and going forth. Third, going without obstruction like a waterfall from a steep cliff means that whatever fear or hesitation arises, one should not waver in that state. Without fear, pride, or hesitation, like a mad elephant or a lightning strike, or like a waterfall from a steep cliff, one should go without obstruction. Having arrived, the practice is: gods and demons, Ar la
