The Bodhisattva Wisdom Source asked: "Bhagavan, how should the seven branches of the path to enlightenment be viewed?" The Buddha replied: "Wisdom Source, because there is no memory and no mental activity, all phenomena are empty of their own nature. Why? Because seeing that all phenomena are without inherent existence is the branch of correct mindfulness of enlightenment. Wisdom Source, because good and non-good, and the unstated, are also unestablished, all that is understood as phenomena is not perceived anywhere, like an illusion, this is the branch of discriminating phenomena of enlightenment. Wisdom Source, because all phenomena are utterly destroyed consciousness, all phenomena of the three realms and nirvana are neither taken nor abandoned, and in the direct realization of the path, there is no clinging. With joy and inconceivable faith, not abandoning diligence, this is the branch of correct diligence of enlightenment. Because all joy and displeasure are destroyed, not generating joy in all conditioned phenomena, but eliminating all afflictions, this is the branch of correct joy of enlightenment. Wisdom Source, because all phenomena that become objects of focus are not perceived even as a particle, the body is thoroughly trained in all phenomena, and the mind is thoroughly trained, and the mind abides in samadhi without obscurations and without objects of focus, this is the branch of correct pliancy of enlightenment. Wisdom Source, because the clinging to all phenomena is completely destroyed, or for the sake of realization, the mind does not focus on anything. Why? Because when the mind abides in equanimity, all phenomena can be realized, but if the mind does not abide in equanimity, it cannot be realized. Enlightenment is attained by abiding in equanimity, and it is not attained by not abiding in equanimity. Thus, abiding in equanimity free from clinging is the branch of correct samadhi of enlightenment. Wisdom Source, because one does not cause all phenomena to abide in any place, does not rely, does not cling, does not bind, and does not cling to the mind in any unpleasantness and all phenomena such as much suffering, the mind is not stolen by the world, and thus, having become one who is equanimous, seeing all phenomena as they are, one obtains joy, this is

Equanimity (Tibetan: btang snyoms) is the correct limb of enlightenment. Intelligence Source (Tibetan: blo gros 'byung gnas), one should view the seven limbs of enlightenment in this way. Intelligence Source asked: World Honored One, how should one view the eight limbs of the Bodhisattva path? The World Honored One instructed: Intelligence Source, in this, all dharmas are equal, this is the correct view. In this, one does not hold a view of self, does not hold a view of person, does not hold a view of sentient being, does not hold a view of life, does not hold a view of emptiness, and does not hold a correct view. In this, from the smallest view to nirvana, and all superior, intermediate, and inferior views are abandoned, this is the correct view. Intelligence Source, in this, by what kind of discrimination can discrimination be abandoned? That is, being skilled in vipassana that is encompassed by shamatha. In this, abandoning the discrimination of good and bad dharmas, as well as complete discrimination and various discriminations. Not discriminating anything, not discriminating, completely not discriminating, this is the correct discrimination. Intelligence Source, in this, speech does not harm oneself and others. In this, one does not become afflicted, and others do not become afflicted. What kind of speech can definitely show that all dharmas are of equal nature, this is the correct speech. Intelligence Source, in this, an action that has ceased and is not accomplished is the limit of action. In this, from that action, afflictions are pacified, and not for the sake of burning afflictions. And, an action that can separate one from afflictions, and not for the sake of generating afflictions. Abandoning all limits of white, black, and mixed actions, and that which is not accomplished, is the correct limit of action. Intelligence Source, in this, not being stained by afflictions is the correct livelihood. In this, what kind of livelihood does not harm oneself, nor harm others, and can fulfill the meaning of the dharmas, this is the correct livelihood. Intelligence Source, in this, profound and free from elaboration, practicing the unconditioned dharma, is the correct diligence. Therefore, the mind is extremely focused, and aspiration, diligence, non-retreating, and manifesting the correct meaning, is the correct diligence. Intelligence Source, in this, with what kind of mindfulness, all afflictions cannot find an opportunity
