Because of the arising of the ground, and in order to be liberated, one must first ripen, because the unripe cannot be liberated, just as an unripe fruit, even if pierced with a root, is not beneficial and instead causes harm. In general, no matter which mantra is practiced, one must first undergo initiation, especially for the practice of Dzogchen, it is not permissible without initiation, therefore the complete initiation is of utmost importance. Explaining this instruction without initiation will lead to the leakage of secrets, and in the past, some have been punished for this, so future generations should not do so, but cherish the prior initiation. The second is divided into two: practicing as a beggar and practicing as a wild animal. The first is to pretend to be an ordinary person in a place where people are not recognized, relying on begging for a living, and practicing as if knowing nothing. At this time, not showing off one's own merits to others is a sign of having no desire; not asking about the Dharma, gurus, and miraculous signs of accomplishment of others, and not admiring them even when seen, is a sign of having faith in one's own instructions. Practicing as a wild animal is to go to a cemetery, hillside, or empty valley, and abandon three activities to practice. That is, abandoning all kinds of trivial matters of the external environment, and staying leisurely, thereby slowing down the channels. When the channels are slow, the wind and mind naturally slow down, and thoughts naturally stop. The activity of speech is to cut off speech, staying without speaking, so that the unspeakable meaning naturally arises in the continuum. The activity of mind is not to follow the scattering of thoughts, but to naturally abide in non-thought. As it is also said in the Madhyamakavatara: Those with faith abandon the mind of samsara, Offer to the guru and give alms, Cut off all connections of samsara, Abandon friends and dwell alone. And so on. Third, determining the true meaning of the instructions is divided into two aspects: practicing with an object-oriented mind and practicing with a self-manifesting awareness-oriented mind. The first, as it is said in the Ratnakuta Sutra: These, with two kinds of gradual minds, Practice the essence of meaning, For those with object-oriented minds, Explain all the dharmas to be practiced and practiced, Awareness self-manifesting

O intelligent one! Show all the methods of viewing. Thus it is. "The second has two parts: generally showing the meaning of definite terms, and separately explaining the places of definite distinctions. The first is from the Tantra of the Heap of Jewels: 'That gradual distinction is like this, practice in an orderly manner, in the manner of the four lords, also grasp the nature of the four meanings, with those four objects of consciousness, cut off the stream of arising that appears in this way, with the four methods of establishing the essential instructions, establish awareness in a place without support.' 'With the four intentions of that meaning, cut off the phenomena of appearance and existence, with the four times and persons, give oneself to all phenomena, with the four keys of pure liberation, transform all afflictions into freedom, that which measures oneself, the four examples show faith in one's own face. Whoever becomes accustomed to this, grasps the root of all wisdom dharmas, obtains the great secret great seal.' Thus, twenty terms are shown. The second is: on top of those, summarizing view, meditation, conduct, and result into four and practicing them, as it says in the Jewel Ornament: 'Conduct constant yoga, meditation constant yoga, view constant yoga, result constant yoga.' Thus it is said. Conduct constant yoga, meditation constant yoga, view constant yoga, result constant yoga, among these four, the first has two parts: generally showing the nature of conduct, and ascertaining the meaning of the present situation. The first is from the Union of Sun and Moon: 'Who unites yoga with meaning?' 'Practice these conducts, with the conduct of a bee, taste the flavor of all dharmas, with the conduct of a mountain deer, abandon the objects that cause confusion, with the conduct of a mute, completely abandon confusing speech, with the conduct of a hawk, cut off doubts about secret mantras, with the conduct of a madman, abandon objects by abiding in one place.' 'With the conduct of a lion, abandon the mind of fear and wander in the charnel ground.' 'With the conduct of a dog and pig, abandon the pure discrimination of purity and impurity, with the conduct of a beggar, cut off remembrance and thought immediately.'
