Therefore, it cannot function to manifest outwardly. Therefore, yogis skilled in mind realize the selflessness of external objects. Yogis skilled in wisdom master the wisdom of awareness itself. Second, separately explaining the individual nature of each, there are two: separately explaining the difficulty in understanding the place of mind, and separately explaining the difficulty in understanding the place of wisdom. The first is divided into common classifications and specific place determinations. The first includes: essence, etymology Among the three classifications, the essence of mind is the consciousness of the six different realms of beings, spontaneously not grasping the grasper and the grasped, clinging to appearances as self with pervasive conceptualization, and accompanied by memory and thought arising in one's own continuum (1). The Madhyamakāvatāra states: Mind is called mistaken conceptualization, its essence is entering and pervading, it is the basis of memory and thought. And the Siṃhanāda-sampūrṇa states: Mind accumulates various habitual tendencies. And the Klong drug pa states: In short, all the phenomena of saṃsāra are the mind that grasps its own characteristics, that is, all the spontaneous appearances of the six realms of beings. This is because the mind holds appearances as non-appearances, so appearances are named mind. It has already been explained that appearances are not considered mind. The etymology is that it is called mind because it thinks about objects. That is, it thinks about gross objects with conceptualization, and abides in the state of subtle objects without conceptualization, merely not grasping anything, so it is called mind. The Madhyamakāvatāra states: Etymology is explained as generating the object of memory through thought, who thinks about what, and with what does one think, what does one think about, and why does one think. There are two classifications: dividing into self-nature and difference, and dividing into the collection of consciousnesses. The first is divided into pure and impure minds. The pure mind is the wisdom that is not produced by gross mistaken conceptualization, abiding in its own nature without conceptualization, that is, the four dhyānas, the four formless absorptions, and the appearance of the mind of single-pointedness of quiescence in the desire realm, etc., are nine. The impure mind is all the various conceptualizations, and the mind of feeling and co-emergence, and all the object-possessing states after the yoga of the form and formless realms. The Madhyamakāvatāra states: The classification is pure and impure. The second, dividing into the collection of consciousnesses, there are eight: the ālaya-

The mind of the base consciousness, clear, non-conceptual, and neutral, is like the surface of a mirror. The eye consciousness does not conceptualize appearances, and the ear, nose, tongue, and body consciousnesses do not conceptualize their respective objects, like images already appearing in a mirror. The mind itself conceptualizes various objects, from the manifest sense objects to the sense consciousness and the manner of grasping, or when conceptualizing objects without general meaning, like the clear appearance of Vajrasana (Bodh Gaya), the first consciousness that arises to grasp the conceptualization is the mind consciousness. After that, the consciousness that arises to act in any of the forms of attachment, aversion, or neutrality is the grasping consciousness, which is called the afflicted mind. The parts, divisions, and sources of these are very numerous, so I will not elaborate further for fear of the length of the text. Secondly, there are five certainties regarding the place of distinction: essence, location, path, function, and result. The essence of the mind is the consciousness of grasping and being grasped, the all-pervasive conceptualization of the three realms. The mind is the base consciousness, the mind is the all-pervasive, acting on objects is the individual consciousness, the five sense consciousnesses. These three are consciousnesses of the same essence, are self-ignorance, and are the root of the five poisons. The location is in the channel connecting the lungs to the heart, in a place as thin as a reed tube. Like the flow from the lungs to the heart, the heart is the self-radiance of the mind part, like an eye, mixed in that space, so it is called the "unclear nine clear" mind, which arises suddenly from the part of conditions. The path is from there next to the spine, there is a channel going upwards, the tip is small, connected to the mouth and nose, so it goes upwards. The function is to act on the shoulders due to the difference in karma. The result is to ripen into the illusory appearances of samsara. That is also called the impure triple layer, that is, the channel between the heart and lungs, is the horse of breath, is the radiance of mind. The essence is ignorance, the aspect is mind, the conceptualization is mind. It is a collection of three combined. From the self-appearance it says: The nature of the impure place is, in the self-continuum of all sentient beings, there exists the impure triple layer. That nature is like this: between the heart and lungs, there also exists a triple layer. From there it flows in the channel. The life force arises from the channel. The doors arise from the mouth and nose. There are eighty thousand of them. There, and so on, the afflictions, arise in various ways. And so on. Vajra Satt
