Like that. The self-appearing mandala is also like that. The appearances of the body, all of those, are not appearances of objects, For example, a young boy, in the clear nature of a mirror, sees the appearance of his own face. In the sky of the nature of reality, the appearance of awareness arises as the body. Seeing one's own true nature. Thus it is said. Secondly, from practicing the indivisibility of space and wisdom, there arise three measures: first, the measure of seeing; second, the measure of habituation; and finally, the measure of stability. In the Lamp Illuminating, it says: The measure of practice is threefold, the measure of seeing and the measure of habituation, the measure of stability is taught as three. The measure of seeing is light, the unchanging blue measure of space, the round, clear measure of the lamp, the subtle, moving measure of awareness, should be known as the measure of seeing. The measure of habituation is threefold, the five colors that arise from blue, appearing about a cubit in size, is the initial measure of habituation. Then, when one becomes very familiar with that, when just the appearance of a rainbow arises, that is the measure of extreme habituation. Then, when it is like a region, that is the measure of supreme habituation, when all appearances arise as light, therefore, the measure of habituation is grasped. From the roundness, the patterns of brocade, when they appear on the tip of one's nose, that is the initial measure of habituation. Then, upward to the space between the eyebrows, when it becomes clear like a mirror, that is the intermediate measure of habituation. When all appearances are in bindus, when they arise and remain still, that is the supreme measure of habituation. When one looks at that again and again, like a bee circling for nectar, when one stays in the place of looking, that is the supreme measure of habituation. The measure of very true habituation, without movement or flickering, when day and night are not seen, that is the measure of extreme habituation. The self-existing appearance of a string of beads, in the spaces like joints, in the bindu the size of a mustard seed, when the body arises very subtly, when all appearances arise as the body, that is the measure of stable awareness. The appearance of earth, water, fire, and wind, when the appearance of the four elements ceases, when the light of the five colors, appears wherever one looks, that is the measure of stable space. On top of one's own body of light, like a stack of wooden bowls, the stack of bindus arises upward, is

"It is the standard of a stable lamp." "No." Thus it is said. "Third, the instruction for ascertaining appearances is that the appearance of the space-wisdom is extremely precious at all times. As it says in 'The Lion's Perfect Strength': When appearances are in fragments, the wise should examine them thoroughly. When they are very subtle and moving," "one should settle into them thoroughly through familiarity. When they are flickering, subtle, and moving," "one should thoroughly grasp what is seen. When they are round, subtle, and intertwined, the wise should stabilize unwavering samadhi. When they appear as flickering, burning, and spurting, one should grasp the expansion of appearances through familiarity. When they appear truly and universally, the wise say one should gather the appearances. When there is no attachment or clinging, the wise should know the method of grasping. This is the characteristic of familiarizing oneself with secret mantra." Thus it is said. Second, there are two specific signs and measures of unwavering samadhi: a brief explanation of the practice of the three samadhis, and a separate explanation of the specific signs and measures of each. First, at the crucial moment of space-wisdom, what is most precious is extracting from the framework of the three samadhis. As it says in 'The Six Spaces': I have three samadhis, namely, the samadhi of resting in one's own place, the samadhi of settling, and settling the reality of things equally." "With the samadhi of great descent, one reverses the direct clinging to one's own place." "With the samadhi of great increase, one settles all appearances in their own place." "Thus it is said. The actual practice of these is threefold: relaxing the body and speech in their own place, and without the awareness being lost to external objects, naturally relaxing and settling is the samadhi of great settling. When the three doors are settled in their own place, recognizing awareness as naked, clear, and distinct is the samadhi of great descent. Viewing objects and appearances as illusory, and knowing awareness as empty and clear, practicing the yoga of the four times day and night in the meaning of space-wisdom is the samadhi of great increase. That tantra says: One should train in the three samadhis in this way. The samadhi of resting in one's own place does not block the doors of the senses, nor does it engage in physical activity, nor should one abandon sleep, nor is the mind separately cut off. In short, the body and speech are in their own place, and the parts of mental distraction are not leaked outwards." "Even for the objects of the six senses, the mind does not waver with awareness and discernment." "In the great non-conceptual self-appearance, clear and aware
