One can attain Buddhahood without needing to be reborn. Because wind and mind have gained freedom, it is impossible to transmigrate in the three realms. The Secret Sound Tantra says, "By nailing down with three attainments, the contaminated aggregates will not appear." Thus, the four appearances until the stage of complete perfection of the edge and support, there are two ways to determine the perfection of the ground and path: the way in which the meaning of the ten outer causal grounds is completely fulfilled, and the way in which the sixteen grounds of the inner fruit appearance are fulfilled. The first comes from Rangshar: "The ground is not somewhere else, but is completely present in one who sees the truth. That is, when the person being introduced first sees the truth, joy arises in his mind, and this is the first attainment of the Extremely Joyful Ground. Recognizing that it is one's own appearance is the second attainment of the Stainless Ground. Then becoming accustomed to it is the third attainment of the Illuminating Ground. Then becoming accustomed to it and seeing a greater appearance of light is the fourth attainment of the Flaming Ground. Then seeing the appearance of wisdom, becoming accustomed to it, all afflictions are naturally purified, and seeing wisdom is the fifth attainment of the Difficult to Conquer Ground. Then the body that has transcended from the light manifests, and this is the sixth attainment of the Manifest Ground. Then habituation reaches its peak, and afflictions are far away, and this is the seventh attainment of the Far Gone Ground. Then the qualities of appearance are completely perfected, and the discriminating mind does not waver, and this is the eighth attainment of the Immovable Ground. Then the mandala is completely perfected, and this is the ninth attainment of the Ground of Good Intelligence. Then the appearance of wisdom is grasped by one's own awareness, and the appearance arises naturally, seeing all dharmas like clouds, and becoming accustomed to this, the tenth ground attains the Cloud of Dharma Ground. This refers to the person who sees the truth attaining the ground without abandoning this body." The second is the order of the four appearances: the appearance of the direct perception of reality, the expansion is the eye; the close expansion is the reality of the eye; the attainment is seeing the continuous line; the close attainment is becoming accustomed to it and obtaining it. The appearance of increasing experience, the expansion is light; the close expansion is bindu; the attainment is the appearance of five colors; the close attainment is the burning of various flickering and pulsating rays.

Manifestation increases as a solitary figure, proximity increases as the union of father and mother. Attainment appears as groups of five and five, proximity of attainment is the completion of the mandala. The manifestation of the exhaustion of dharmata increases, not abiding in body and wisdom. Proximity increases as emptiness without support. Attainment is inexpressible, proximity of attainment is the invisible dharmata, not established anywhere. Thus, after the complete perfection of the sixteen bhumis of manifestation, going to the realm of the Dharmakaya, the Primordial Purity, is the realm of the Protector Vajradhara. These are the various stages distinguished by the divisions of qualities. From the Treasury of Precious Words and Meanings, the stages of how to practice, that is, the extensive explanation of the eighth Vajra Place." །། Then, regarding the ascertainment of the signs and measures of those who have practiced, there are two: Essence is shown in brief, and nature is explained in detail. First, since nature is transformed into the Great Perfection, there are four confidences: confidence that there is no fear even in the suffering of hot and cold hells; confidence that there is no doubt of cyclic existence in the happiness and suffering of samsara; confidence that there is no hope in the state of nirvana; confidence that there is no attachment or aversion to the qualities of the Buddhas. First, even hearing about the suffering and lifespan of the lower realms, there is no fear or apprehension, because it is certain that happiness and suffering do not exist for the awareness that has never been deluded. Therefore, one believes that samsara is only a name and does not exist on the basis of awareness. Now, one is at ease, believing that it is impossible to go to the lower realms again. Second, since samsara does not exist even as a name, awareness arises nakedly, and since one is freed from karma and maturation, there is no fear of falling into samsara. Third, since one realizes that the essence of awareness does not abide in nirvana, which is liberation and bliss, one is free from the hope of attaining it. Fourth, since one is certain that there is no Buddha separate from awareness itself, there is not even a particle of attachment or aversion to the qualities of going elsewhere and attaining. Thus, the four confidences are present in the yogi who has realized the meaning of primordial purity, the great exhaustion of dharmas, the self-awareness of one's own awareness. Transforming in samsara and nirvana, going to the place of the exhaustion of dharmata, when one's own ground becomes like the sky, it is called the measure of the Thus-Gone One in the irreversible ground. In the Sutra of the Heap of Jewels, it says, unchanging.
