The Sapanas are created from common karma and are called beings of karmic existence. They are simultaneous with the formation of the world and also with its destruction, hence they are said to dwell for a kalpa. The fundamental abode of the Asuras is inside Mount Meru, flourishing with glory and good fortune, as if competing with the gods. On the golden ground, in the center of the Asura city of Golden City, made of various jewels, is the excellent palace of the powerful one, the assembly place of excellent wealth, and the beautiful gardens of the directions: Joy, Great Joy, Universal Joy Garden, and the Joyful Universal Joy Garden. The name of the land is also the same. The best of trees is the Chitri tree, the stone slabs are extremely beautiful, the best of elephants is the snow-covered pile of Tise (Kailash), unbearable, and the best of horses is called Swift. The joy of enjoyment, trees, gardens, horses, elephants, clothes, wealth, and nectar drinks, etc., are also immeasurable. There are also six abodes of the desire gods. The Four Great Kings are the seven surrounding mountains and eight seas, the sun, moon, planets, and stars are nine, and the various abodes such as the snow mountains, gardens, and cities in the center of the four continents are ten places of enjoyment. There are also four levels: the first level is the gods holding fly-whisks in their hands, the second is the gods holding flower garlands, the third is the gods who are always intoxicated with honey wine, and the fourth is the Four Guardian Kings, Virudhaka, Virupaksha, Vaishravana's son, and Dhritarashtra, each residing with their retinues. Those palaces, retinues, and beautiful gardens, etc., are adorned by spreading golden ground, sprinkling it with sandalwood water, covering it with heavenly Mandarava flowers up to the knees, and having beautiful ponds filled with flowers, with the water level always maintained, and so on. The sun's palace, with a base of fifty-one yojanas, is made of fire crystal, and the moon is naturally formed from water crystal, surrounded by gold and silver above, adorned with roofs of four kinds of jewels, and heavenly cities. The moon is fifty yojanas, the large stars are eighteen yojanas and one-quarter, and the medium ones are seventeen and one-half.

in between. The smaller ones are one yojana apart, with celestial cities above. Day and night, they possess the magical power of naturally encircling the four continents. They are made of any of the four: gold, copper, crystal, or agate. They float in the sky at forty thousand yojanas and radiate light. On top of Mount Sumeru in the center is the abode of the Thirty-Three, namely the city, gardens, land, trees, and the excellent assembly place. The city is surrounded by the palace of Indra. The general city is called Sudarshana. Among the three border abodes, in the center is the palace called Vaijayanta, each side being one hundred and fifty yojanas, rising five and a half yojanas above Sudarshana. It has eight eaves, seven stories, and is adorned with seven times seven dwellings. In its four directions are four gardens called Miscellaneous Chariots, each adorned with precious trees, birds, ponds, etc., and connected by nets of celestial garments, musical instruments, nectar, and various jewels, filled with celestial sons and daughters singing and playing music.
