Moreover, it's not just about words; in terms of adopting and abandoning based on cause and effect, the practice is meticulous and subtle. As the earlier Kadampa masters said, one must be cautious where caution is needed, and similarly, as it is said, one must be broad where broadness is needed. According to the ultimate, unsurpassed intention of the profound Sutras, having comprehended the nature of reality that is pure like space, he became the actual manifestation of the inner secret lord, Shantarakshita. Likewise, with wisdom and vision as vast as the sky regarding the meaning of the unsurpassed inner tantras of Secret Mantra, he openly demonstrated the nature of abiding as the compiler of the Secret Mantra teachings without concealing anything. In particular, all the signs and measures of manifestly seeing the ultimate intention of the pinnacle vehicle, Vajra Essence, were evident. Thus, the wondrous biography of his entire life is: As it is said in the Glorious Guhyasamaja Tantra: "Outwardly, maintain the conduct of a Shravaka, Inwardly, delight in the meaning of Guhyasamaja." And the Great Orgyen also said: "Outwardly, practice according to the Sutra system, There is a need for meticulous adoption and abandonment of cause and effect. Inwardly, practice according to the common Mantrayana system, There is a need to connect with the meaning of generation and completion stages. Secretly, practice according to the Ati system, There is a need to liberate into the rainbow body in one lifetime." As such, for all individuals who enter the Dharma, and especially for practitioners of the Nyingma school of Secret Mantra, Guru Padmasambhava advised us, his followers, on how to practice the stages of view, meditation, and conduct. This lord himself practiced these teachings as they are, becoming an unsurpassed example, and therefore, I will relate this without exaggeration. To beings utterly afflicted in the degenerate age of the five degenerations, He makes the unbearable great compassionate heart into a sun of loving-kindness. When the darkness of the decline of the teachings and beings thickens, He extends the light-rope of activity without hesitation in time. With the well-renowned Panchen, the accomplished spiritual friend, With the biography of being disciplined, learned, and virtuous, And from the supreme secret path of the innermost essence, With this display of the great signs of realizing the meaning lineage, Even in times of severe and turbulent changes, When opportunities for hearing, contemplation, and meditation are extremely rare, From where did this wisdom of knowing the ten branches of knowledge, And the great power of realizing the vast intention, arise?

In the past, Protector, you were Shantarakshita (Tibetan: ཞི་བ་འཚོ།), The master of speech, Lotsawa Chöpal Gyatso (Tibetan: ཆོས་དཔལ་རྒྱ་མཚོ་), and others, A rosary of precious rebirths of great saints. I have unwavering faith in the place where they have been continuously manifested. Emaho! Protector, the single eye of the degenerate world, When you turned towards demonstrating the final deeds, From the city filled with the fragrance of incense in the east, You visibly proceeded to the glorious Samye (བསམ་ཡས་, located in present-day Dranang County, Shannan Prefecture, Tibet). At that time, Protector, in the primordial ground of being, You manifestly attained enlightenment with six special qualities, From the clear sky came sweet and gentle sounds, Beautiful with the splendor of body, relics, and light. After that, the manner in which the offering ceremonies for the relics were performed at the main monastery is clearly described in the biography, the nourishment of faith, so it is not described here. Up to this point, I have briefly described the biography of the supreme guide of all beings in the five degenerations, the incomparable venerable and precious Lama. Now, I wish to gather the essence of their meaning and explain it. Therefore, firstly, Shantarakshita, the great abbot, was the sun of Dharma that dispelled the darkness of this snowy land. Secondly, Lotsawa Chöpal Gyatso, whose kindness is immeasurable, restored the teachings in general, and in particular, the ripening and liberating instructions, explanations, and precepts of the Great Secret Nyingma school, along with the transmissions and commentaries of the three vows of individual liberation, bodhisattva, and mantra, which had declined. He spread them widely throughout Ü-Tsang, Kham, and Amdo. Finally, in this degenerate age, when the precious teachings of the Buddha were extremely weak, remaining only in name, like giving the essence of life to a dying person, he traveled to the great monasteries of upper, middle, and lower Tibet, as well as to most of the countries in the east, west, and south of Jambudvipa, including China and Nepal. He propagated the teachings and practice of sutra, tantra, and the arts, spreading the Buddha's teachings throughout the sky, and produced countless learned and virtuous individuals who uphold the teachings. Thus, when we think well of these precious chains of rebirths, the greatness and kindness of any one of them is immeasurable and never to be forgotten. In particular, the revival of the decline of the teachings in the degenerate age is not like food mixed with poison, but like the nectar of the gods of good fortune. As for the deeds of the wise,
