If permanence exists, then birth is the natural law of death, because one is subject to impermanent death. Therefore, understanding that there is no meaning or essence in pursuing this life, one must pursue the next life. Thinking about the cause and effect of samsara, one must develop renunciation towards samsara in future lives and beyond. The way to develop renunciation is as follows: the lesser person renounces the three lower realms and seeks higher realms; the intermediate person renounces the six realms of samsara and seeks liberation. Other teachings only have these two, but in the teachings of the omniscient father and son, one must renounce the thought of selfish attachment. That is, when contemplating the faults of samsara, the mind is filled with sadness and weariness; when the thought of wanting to be liberated from it arises, what is the benefit if only I alone am liberated? Leaving behind the kind mothers who have cared for us with kindness since beginningless time, and achieving liberation alone, there is no one more shameless than that. Therefore, one must think of enabling all sentient beings to attain the state of Buddhahood, thereby generating the great renunciation that arises definitively from the two extremes. If we establish four types of renunciation, then the motivation of the lesser person is merely renunciation, the renunciation of the Hearers and Solitary Realizers are two, and the great renunciation is the fourth. If we divide it into three types of renunciation, then the Hearers and Solitary Realizers, and the Bodhisattvas have three types of renunciation. Now, one must definitely renounce all of samsara and seek a place to escape, therefore one must pursue the state of liberation and omniscience. One cannot know the path to liberation on one's own. Parents, relatives, etc., cannot show it, and even if they do, one cannot understand it, so one must seek a virtuous friend. However, it will not do to meet just anyone; one must rely on a qualified lama and virtuous friend, serving them through the three kinds of pleasing actions, and thereby learning their thoughts and conduct. Among these, the first is the guidance on the difficulty of finding leisure and endowments, etc. There are two types of guidance: ripening guidance and aspirational guidance. Although there is only aspirational guidance at present, up to the great vidyadhara Jigme Lingpa (1730-1798), there were those who could adequately substitute for ripening guidance. Therefore, the first guidance on the difficulty of finding leisure and endowments is the guidance of one's own body, so on this leisure and endowed human body, there are only two places to go. If it is good, this body is the ship of liberation.

Therefore, if one practices the supreme Dharma correctly, one can begin with ease and happiness and attain the state of liberation and omniscience. In particular, if one meditates on the Great Perfection of Clear Light, one will be liberated in any of the three: this life, the bardo, or the next life. If one does wrong, this body is the foundation stone of samsara. Therefore, if one pursues this worldly life with this body, one will grasp the root of all fear and suffering. As such, one has no obstacles to practicing Dharma on one's own, and one has leisure, so this which is called "leisure" is one's own body. Conversely, there are eight unfree states, and these eight are called the eight unfree states of one's own continuum. Among them are four non-human unfree states and four human unfree states. First, regarding the non-human unfree state of hell, one must repeatedly contemplate whether or not one has the leisure to practice Dharma. This has two: session and session break. Regarding sessions, there are many ways, such as two sessions, three sessions, four sessions, and six sessions, but here, it is done according to the way of two sessions during the day and two or four sessions at night. In order to make it easy for beginners to enter, in the morning, at dawn, when the first bird call is heard, one begins a session and continues until it is light, this is the dawn session, or the session ends when it is light. Then, before the sun rises high, one performs the activities of the session break, such as sprinkling water, offering white torma, and reciting the yidam deities without interruption. After that, one begins a session and continues until noon, before the sun reaches the top of the head, this is the morning session. Then one has a session break, eats lunch, prostrates, reads books, etc., and then rests leisurely until the great shadow of the afternoon appears. Then one begins a session and continues until the sun sets, this is the afternoon session. Then one has a session break, offers tea and snacks, recites whatever aspirations and prayers one knows, and offers red torma. Then, at dusk, when one sees another person, one can only recognize that it is a person, but one cannot recognize who it is, one begins a session, this is the dusk session. Then, one ends a session when people are about to go to sleep, these are the four sessions. Meditating during these four times makes the mind easy to tame. During the session breaks, even if beginners meditate, it will not be very effective, especially the faults of dullness and agitation will be more serious, so during the session breaks, rather than meditating, one should strive to recite and do virtuous deeds. Like this, each session has three parts: preliminary, main part, and conclusion. First, the preliminary has the preliminary of the preliminary.
