If that's the case, why doesn't it increase now? Even if currently controlled by delusion, one should make a firm resolution, hoping that the next session can also be free from the control of delusion. Then, slowly rise from the seat and begin to engage in the activities of the breaks between sessions. Moreover, if one does not contemplate each of the previous eight leisures during the breaks between sessions, it's like taking red-hot iron out of the fire with tongs, and it turns black at the same time. Any slight change of mind that occurs during the session, if during the breaks between sessions, one allows the appearances of this world and this life to develop as they please, then whether or not one contemplates the leisures during the session, there is a risk of becoming brazen. That will follow after the session. The ten endowments are that merely obtaining leisure is not enough. To practice the sacred Dharma, one needs five favorable conditions that one possesses oneself, and five favorable conditions that one possesses from others. For these ten, one only needs to cultivate joy in having the first three. The latter two must be carefully examined and efforts made to ensure they are complete. This is like separating the session and the breaks between sessions, and alternately engaging in observation and practice. The eight kinds of unforeseen circumstances that make one unfree are like having eighteen kinds of leisure and endowment, like having eighteen sheep. The unforeseen circumstances are like a wolf coming and killing one, leaving only seventeen. If two are killed, there are only sixteen left. Therefore, even if one does not have unforeseen circumstances today, they may occur tomorrow. Even if the previous session did not have them, the next session may. Even if the beginning of the session does not have them, the end of the session may. Therefore, one must carefully examine oneself and seek remedies for each one. The first is, "Whatever affliction is greatest, strive to learn the remedy." Therefore, cultivate the remedy for attachment, which is ugliness; the remedy for hatred, which is love; and the remedy for ignorance, which is the differentiation of elements. The remedy for foolish ignorance: one does not understand the words when listening, one does not understand the meaning when thinking, and one does not generate realization of reality when meditating. This is due to past sins and obscurations, so the remedy is confession with the complete four powers, and each of the eight close sons of the Bodhisattvas, each has a difference in their aspiration and activity, so pray to the deity who generates wisdom, the noble Manjushri.

Therefore, it is necessary to examine. Moreover, one should not examine through external miracles and supernormal powers, but rather examine whether or not the precious Bodhicitta is present in their mindstream. If it is present, then because the connection is meaningful, cultivate joy. If it is not, then either part ways amicably with such a demonic friend or bad companion, or sever ties and leave. The antidote for bad karma descending upon one is: first, rely on a virtuous spiritual friend; in the middle, listen and contemplate; and finally, when obstacles arise during practice, do not think, "I should not encounter such things," but rather, as stated in the Vajra Cutter Sutra, "A Bodhisattva who practices the Perfection of Wisdom will experience extreme suffering." Have firm faith in the infallibility of cause and effect, and generate remorse for past misdeeds. The antidote for laziness is: from the depths of your heart, remember death and impermanence, and initiate constant diligence and respectful diligence. The antidote for being a servant of others is: for those who have become servants of lamas and the wealthy against their will, seek a good method and strive to liberate yourself from it. The antidote for fear is: be seized by renunciation and a pure Bodhicitta. The antidote for pretending to be Dharma is: know the faults of practicing Dharma for the sake of this life and worldly concerns, and abandon them. Severance of lineage refers to the separation of one's own continuum from both the path of liberation and omniscience. This is severance of lineage, or if any of these eight situations occur, the sprouts of liberation, Bodhi, and the three will wither, thus separating from the lineage of liberation, and therefore it is called severance of lineage. The antidote for lacking renunciation is: know the faults of samsara in the three realms, and generate the mind of renunciation. The antidote for lack of faith is: contemplate the qualities of the Dharma and the lama, and hold irreversible faith. The antidote for desire and attachment is: remember the faults encompassed by the four aspects of impermanence. There is no antidote for bad conduct. The antidote for broken vows is: know the four causes that give rise to downfall, and even if one of the four root vows of individual liberation is broken, protect the other three. If all four are broken, then confess properly. Rather than having pride with discipline, it is better to have much regret after breaking vows.
