of suffering. One must experience countless years of lifespan. Now, like this, no matter where one is born in the hot and cold hells, whether or not there is time to practice the sacred Dharma, one must repeatedly think about it and engage in analytical meditation. Furthermore, after analyzing in this way, if one becomes discouraged and cannot go anywhere, then do not follow the past, do not welcome the future, and do not continue the present, but rather engage in unfabricated settling meditation. Also, when a thought is about to arise, one should also analyze it. And when one does not want it to arise, one should let go, alternating between analysis and settling. Secondly, the realm of the pretas is: filled with filth and gravel, with many tree stumps that have been burned by fire, and scattered with coarse poisonous thorns. The dry riverbed is covered with grayish-white gravel, and many dry cotton fibers are floating around. The body is like the bones at the end of an eon, or a dried deer antler, or a hardened crust of butter. The head is the size of a clay pot, the neck is as thin as a horse's tail, the belly is as large as a region, and the limbs are as thin as reeds. The sound of a single preta walking is like the sound of five hundred chariots being dragged, and sparks of red fire emanate from the joints. The suffering is: for the pretas, summer is hot even the moon, and winter is cold even the sun. They see many trees laden with fruit, but they become fruitless. They see the great ocean with waves rippling like crystal necklaces, but merely seeing it causes it to dry up, becoming even more miserable and painful than before. The lifespan is infinitely long, lasting tens of thousands of years, and the short lifespan is uncertain. If one is born in such a place, whether or not there is time to practice the sacred Dharma, one must alternately engage in analytical and settling meditation. Thirdly, the realm of animals is: mostly in the dark places between continents, in places where one cannot even see one's own hand when stretched out. The body is like fish and crocodiles, coiled around Mount Meru three times, and so on. The small forms are like dust particles and needle tips, and so on. The suffering is: in general, they are foolish and deluded, ignorant of what to accept and reject. In particular, the large ones devour the small ones, and the small ones pierce the large ones like dust, depriving them of both shelter and clothing, and suffering immeasurable torment from being devoured. The long-lived gods reside in the northeast corner of the fourth dhyana heaven, in a dark and fiery place like a tree stump that has been burned by fire. The body is the clear and empty samadhi of

body. There is no sense of pleasure or pain, good or evil, like in a state of deep sleep. This is also said to be in the realm of the fourth dhyana, which is the true meaning. As it is said, 'Where one dies, what is the difference from that?' Thus, wherever one dies, one remains in a state of unconsciousness, up to eighty great kalpas, separated from the appearance of the holy Dharma, and has no leisure to practice the Dharma. Thus, contemplate and settle well, and then meditate. The other four kinds of people who have no leisure are: meditate alternately with contemplation and settlement as mentioned above. This is the main part of the session. The aftermath of the session: In this way, in that session, representing the virtue cultivated, all the virtuous things of the three times, and the uncontaminated roots of virtue of the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas, all the contaminated roots of virtue of all sentient beings, are all gathered and harmonized in the mind, and dedicated to all sentient beings to be separated from the two causes and effects of suffering, and to obtain the precious state of complete enlightenment. The way of dedication is also like how the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas dedicate with the three-wheel pure dedication door, I also completely dedicate in the same way. With this thought, recite 'Manjushri, the brave and wise,' etc. After that, one should not suddenly get up, but should look back and ask oneself: Was the vow I made at the beginning of the early session taken away by delusion, or not? If it is not taken away by delusion, and the session is complete, then one should be happy, but pride will also arise, so one should subdue pride. Oh, you can have a good session now, that's because of the retrospective said by those with little merit, what do you have to be proud of? Are you such a good person? I will observe in the next session.' Thus, one should subdue pride. Also, if the mind is taken away by delusion, and not even a single good thought arises, then one will feel depressed, thinking, 'Oh, what's wrong with me?' and become lazy. To this, one should generate joy and praise. Oh, you are now taken away by delusion, although it is not very good, but what is there to be depressed about? You have been deluded from beginningless time until now. Now you need to separate the session interval and the session to meditate, otherwise you would not be confused from the beginning.
