At that time, King Utpala-face enthroned his eldest son as a Chakravartin king. He himself, along with his sons, lacking one to make a thousand, and eighty-four thousand, including Queen Holy Beauty, who had transformed into men, and also ninety-two thousand other beings, left their homes and went forth in the presence of that Tathagata, practicing mindfulness properly. At that time, many billions of beings spoke to each other, wondering, "How is it that even the Chakravartin king has gone forth? This Shramana is diligent in the work of demons. He is cunning and deceitful, teaching a Dharma that possesses the work of demons, causing some to lose their male organs, some to lose their female organs, some to shave their hair and beards, some to wear colored clothes, and so on. Likewise, he also teaches about rebirth in the three realms of gods, humans, and evil destinies, and about the death and rebirth of some. Deceiving beings with the appearance of a Shramana who possesses the illusion of transforming women, not even his shadow can be seen, nor his words heard. We should flee." At that time, a person named Lost Youth also said, "My wife, maidservants, and daughters have also been transformed into men by this wicked Shramana, having their hair shaved and wearing colored clothes, leaving me alone oppressed by sorrow. We should flee and go to the delightful rocky mountains where the sound of that Shramana cannot be heard." Just as they said, many hundreds of thousands of beings fled together, going to the delightful remote wilderness, because there had appeared a Shramana dressed in the garb of an ascetic, who proclaimed liberation and the cessation of karmic consequences, and who was diligent in the work of demons. Looking at him and listening to his Dharma is a distraction of the mind, because they shave their heads, go forth, eat alms food, feel weary, delight in solitude, and abandon the pleasures of desire.

He caused many beings to hold such sinful views. When the great ascetic Moon Official heard this, he thought, 'If I can completely liberate these sentient beings from sinful views and guide them on the right path, then my becoming an ascetic is meaningless. In the future, after I become a Buddha, how will I be able to liberate these miserable sentient beings?' He made a firm resolution, and with the power of compassion, he asked the Tathagata Light, Peace, Fragrant, and Brave, and then, surrounded by hundreds of thousands of beings, he traveled through the border villages and rocky places, liberating sentient beings from sinful views and placing them in the three vehicles, and by showing the Jewel Crest Dharani, he transformed women into men. They all offered themselves to that Buddha and became monks. That lost youth thought, 'Moon Official has taken away my retinue. I will haunt this Buddha's pure land, creating obstacles and causing fear from the time they are in the womb until they sit under the Bodhi tree. Even after they attain enlightenment, I will destroy his teachings.' When he made such a vow, the ascetic Moon Official, with great power, worked hard to make him develop faith, abandon sinful views, and confess his sins, and he also made him generate Bodhicitta. Then the lost youth became subdued, developed faith, and possessed great compassion. He vowed, 'Whenever you become a Buddha, may I be prophesied to attain unsurpassed Bodhi.' Thus it is said in the Jewel Crest Dharani Sutra. The queen Lhamdze at that time was the Bodhisattva Maitreya, and the lost youth was this evil demon. Later, as he had vowed, he was prophesied to attain Buddhahood. ༈ Again, in the past, when the Bhagavan himself became a king named Upright King in this Jambudvipa, he had faith in the Mahayana sutras, and without stinginess or jealousy, he taught the Dharma and provided assistance to the poor and helpless.

That time, since there were no Buddhas or Shravakas and Pratyekabuddhas in the world, that king served the Brahmins for twelve years, providing them with whatever they desired. The king said, 'O venerable teacher, please generate the mind of unsurpassed Bodhi!' They said, 'O king, the nature of Bodhi does not exist, and the Mahayana sutras are the same.' Thus they reviled. That king had faith in the Mahayana, and even though he killed the Brahmins who slandered the Mahayana sutras, because of that, he was not born in hell from then on. The power of protecting the Mahayana sutras is so immeasurable. ' Thus it was said. Furthermore, in a previous life, in the teachings of the Buddha Melodious Voice, a king named Glorious Voice made many stupas of that Buddha and made offerings. At that time, the Bhagavan himself was transformed into a Bodhisattva named Blissful Giving. He wrapped his right hand in cloth, put it in sesame oil, and lit it to make offerings to the Tathagata. The light suppressed the radiance of hundreds of thousands of other butter lamps, and a great light pervaded all directions as numerous as the sands of the Ganges, and the earth shook, and rains of offerings fell in the Buddha fields. That Bodhisattva's face did not change, and with the samadhi of equality, free from elaboration, he made it widely understood to those assemblies with a melodious voice. There, the gods offered offerings. King Glorious Voice saw this and, together with eighty queens, jumped from the top of a palace a hundred thousand cubits high to see the Bodhisattva, and his body was unharmed. Seeing the Bodhisattva's burning hand, he wept loudly and spoke verses. To this, the Bodhisattva Blissful Giving said: 'Even if one has no hands, one is not incomplete. Whoever has no discipline, that is incomplete. With this decaying body, it is a place of inconceivable giving, a support for all the world's offerings. I offer to the Tathagata.' After reciting these and other verses, he spoke words of truth, and the earth shook, and his hand was as before.
