It is done. The king commanded the ministers: "Wise ones, go and proclaim in Varanasi, the deity has spoken! In my land, there is a deer king of beautiful form. Whoever informs me of him, I will give him great respect and bestow five villages." The ministers heard from the king and proclaimed it thus. Then, the man who saw the deer king thought: "Should I follow the cycle of rebirth, or should I repay kindness?" However, indulging in desires, there is no evil deed that cannot be done. If I obtain such an opportunity through the instigation of desire, then now is the time to avenge past enemies. The fire of hatred also burned his heart. "Repaying kindness, set aside for now. If I can obtain work through this method, I will avenge my enemies." After dawn, the people who served the king gathered at the palace gate, carrying various fragrant flowers, passing them from one to another through the gatekeepers and ministers, and making various offerings to the king, they said: "O deity, in a certain place, various forest birds and wild animals live in harmony, making it beautiful. There is a deer king called Golden Mane, surrounded by thousands of deer. I will show the deity that sacred deer, supremely beautiful in form." The king, hearing this, was delighted and, surrounded by many ministers, was amazed by the strange people who had come from various lands. The people of that land also led the way, and that man led the way in that direction. At that time, the crow Bodhisattva, who had made a vow, perched on a tree in that dense forest to observe the situation. Seeing a large crowd coming, he quickly went to the deer king Bodhisattva and said: "O deer king, I have said before that people do not remember kindness, do not repay kindness, and are not grateful. That man is coming with many gifts." The deer, hearing that sound, were terrified.

Why did they all flee? The deer king, a Bodhisattva, thought: If I do not protect these deer, they will be slaughtered today. Rather than abandoning sentient beings, it is easier to save my own life. So, he went to meet the king. Then, that person without compassion, who does not consider others in the world, with a deceptive intention pretending to look at the deer, pointed to the best deer with both hands and said: Oh god, the deer king is this one. The completion of extremely powerful karma does not depend on the time of fruition, so as soon as he said those words, both of that person's hands fell to the ground. Then, the king felt regret and asked that person: What is this disease of yours? That person, afflicted by the feeling of suffering, said indistinctly: Killing which great king and plundering wealth, that is not a thief; Oh great king, not repaying a favor done, that is a thief. The king said: What is the meaning of these words? He told the king in detail everything that had happened. Then, the king again said to that person who had betrayed the kindness: Why did you not fall into hell? Why did your tongue not split into a hundred pieces? Why was your body not hidden? Why did the vajra hail, spears, and great arrows not strike you? Then, the king, knowing the great power of the Bodhisattva, said to the ministers: Wise ones, this great deer king is worthy of respect, go and have the city streets cleaned. They cleared the stones and rubble, etc., from that city and sprinkled it with sandalwood They decorated it with fragrant incense burners and banners, with silk ribbons, and scattered flowers, making it as beautiful as a garden of the gods, and had the people living in that city hold garlands of flowers and go out to greet him. Then, with great royal wealth, the king had the deer king, who was very handsome in appearance, sit on a lion throne, and with great royal wealth and power, he was surrounded by queens, youths, ministers, towns, and villagers.

He taught them the Dharma, and the king and his retinue took the five precepts. Many beings obtained roots of virtue. The king gave that forest to the animals and also gave fearlessness to all living beings. Furthermore, the Blessed One was once the leader of five hundred crocodiles. At that time, an old crocodile cunningly ate the eggs and young of those crocodiles, walking slowly, lifting one leg, and pretending to be an ascetic. Then, the crocodiles grieved and gathered before the leader of the crocodiles, asking what could be done. The crocodile leader discerned the old crocodile's trick and secretly spoke such verses to it, and it became frightened and sought refuge with the crocodile leader. The leader said, "Live in peace until the crocodiles are not in conflict." After saying this, it became frightened and fled to another place, and the crocodiles became peaceful. Again, the parrot became a parrot that could speak human language, causing King Brahma-given to believe in the Dharma. When he became the king of geese and a peacock, he also taught the Dharma, benefiting others as mentioned above. Bodhisattvas, even when born as animals, mature beings with their incomparable power of wisdom, let alone when born in the higher realms. One should respect the power of wisdom. Again, in the past, there was a sage named Light who lived under a banyan tree called Good, which was covered with dense branches and had a circumference of one yojana. He used his clairvoyance to examine and count the number of leaves on that tree, and after twelve years and seven days, he knew everything. At that time, the Blessed One, having become a sage named Blue Lotus, arrived there, and they exchanged pleasantries. The sage Light said, "O Brahmin, in the human world, is there any being who can know the number of leaves on this king of trees?" He said, "Yes, I can also know." Light said, "Then count them." The sage Blue Lotus, without looking at the tree, entered into contemplation of the number of leaves for a moment and then said, "Six

Thousands of kotis, sixteen kotis of distinctions, thirteen kotis of pervasiveness, ninety-six kotis of agitation, thirty-nine kotis of blood stains, thirty kotis of immensity, eight thousand kotis and also hundreds of thousands of kotis, these have ninety-two leaves. I salute the holy Brahmin. Having said this, Light said: Well done! You speak the truth. I have counted with clairvoyance for twelve years and seven days, but you, without looking at the tree and without counting the leaves, know the number of leaves. Is this your own wisdom, or is it shown by a god? Having asked, Blue Lotus said: This is not spoken by a god, but is my own wisdom. The sky may be exhausted and crumble, but I will never lie. Thus he spoke. At that time, the ascetic Light was said to be Shariputra. Furthermore, in the past, when the Blessed One himself became a Chandala king named Tresangku, there was a Brahmin of high and noble lineage named Lotus Heart, who had a daughter with a beautiful form and intelligence, who was sought for his own son Tiger Ear. The Brahmin, arrogant with the pride of his lineage and the conceit of scriptures, despised and did not give her. The king, with true wisdom, subdued the pride of his lineage, and with words surpassing all Vedas and scriptures, defeated that Brahmin. He praised him with great reverence and, as stated in the Tiger Ear Sutra, joyfully gave his daughter. Furthermore, in his previous lives, the Blessed One performed vast practices of the six perfections in order to seek inconceivable wisdom. Having become a Brahmin named Utpala Eye, he offered monasteries to the Buddha and his retinue, and after making countless, immeasurable, and inconceivable offerings to countless, immeasurable, and inconceivable Tathagatas, he made aspirations to attain the wisdom of the ten powers. In the presence of the Buddhas, he asked about the nature of the Dharma as it is and as it appears, understood it, and taught it to others. He served countless Tathagatas, requested and received the Dharma according to their wishes. For the benefit and happiness of various realms of sentient beings, he transformed into kshatriyas, brahmins, dancers, and singers.
