Then, the Bodhisattva said: "You are carrying the bones of your dead husband on your shoulders, completely deluded by the idea of your husband, abandon it! All beings will die, mountains and oceans, wish-fulfilling trees, gods and asuras, and the wealth of people, are also impermanent. Therefore, all compounded things are impermanent, generate renunciation towards the world. Attachment to relatives gives rise to sorrow and leads to downfall, so you should now dispel your sorrow." After saying this, she regained her memory. "Emaho! Your teachings are like a lamp, dispelling the darkness of my evil thoughts." And so on, she praised with joy. That woman returned to her natural state, and the Bodhisattva led her into the midst of her relatives. Her behavior was universally praised by the assembly of disciples and people. Furthermore, in the past, in Varanasi, in the palace of King Brahma-bestowed, there was a Brahmin skilled in the Vedas who went to the forest to search for medicine. He returned carrying the burden of medicine, and while resting among the Brahmins, he was seen by a Kinnara woman, and they fell in love with each other, and both went to the Kinnara woman's abode. There, the door of the cave was blocked by a large stone, they left the stone there, and together enjoyed desire. The Bhagavan himself was thus born as their son, and when he was eight years old, he understood many treatises from his father, and was also confident in astrology. Then, he and his mother came out of the cave together, and understood the remaining treatises from the Buddhas. Due to the power of his habit, he could know the situation of thieves merely by the marks of footprints, and he told this to his parents. Therefore, he was known as the Thief-Knower. There, he asked his father, "Where is your birthplace?" He replied, "It is the palace of Varanasi." The son said, "Father, you and I go together to Varanasi, I want to listen to the treatises together with the wise ones." The father said, "Son, if you have the power to remove the stone blocking the cave door, then do so." The son exerted great effort and removed the stone, and then the two of them went together to Varanasi, first offering auspicious wishes to the king, my

When (people) said that the thief was known from the footprints, the king treated that child with respect. Because he knew the footprints, he pointed out all the thieves, and as he said to the king, these people should not be killed, so that place became free of thieves. Once, that king, riding a fine horse, together with his entourage, talking with the attendant, went to the garden where the assembly of consorts resided, and then went to another secluded place, where he saw a beautiful woman named Good Woman sleeping soundly, her clothes disheveled, wearing a pearl necklace. The king said to the attendant: By the power of the merit of knowing footprints, even this pearl necklace of someone sleeping like this has not been stolen by others. The attendant became jealous, (thinking) the god did not understand the fault of knowing footprints, but praised its merit. The king said: What is its fault? The attendant said: That person himself steals other people's property at night, only revealing his traces before the god. That king, in order to show the greatness of knowing footprints, had me (the attendant) take the pearl necklace of that Good Woman, circled the king's city three times, returned to his palace, dug a hole under the lion throne and buried it. When that woman woke up, she sadly reported to the king because she had lost her pearl necklace. There, the king questioned the attendant in person, and said to the one who knew footprints: This Good Woman's valuable pearl necklace is lost, who took it? The one who knew footprints came out, circled the city three times, came to the palace, looked under the lion throne, and looked at the king's face, repeatedly laughing. That king said: What is the meaning of your laughter, speak! The one who knew footprints said: God! The thief who took the pearl necklace is not an ordinary person. The king said: Then speak! The one who knew footprints said: God should listen to an example, such as potters and others who do work with earth, when the earth collapses and presses on them, what allows plants and other things to grow, and nourishes all the earth

He said, like saying, "Today I have destroyed my body," and then remained silent. The king said to him, "Speak more clearly." He said, "If you are afraid to speak clearly, then please listen to other examples. When Brahmins perform fire offerings in the fire, if their hands are burned by sparks, they say this: 'The fire that I worship and bow to daily with offerings and a reverent mind, if that very fire burns me, then who will be the protector of living beings?' It is like that." Having said this, he remained silent. The king said, "I do not understand these words of yours, please speak very clearly." He said, "Great King, if I speak very clearly, it is like this: a Brahmin who entered the water to bathe was carried away by the water, and birds that ate tree seeds were burned by the fire that came from the trees. Although these examples of those without protectors are shown, they do not understand, so they still say to speak more clearly." He gave another example: "For example, when a certain farmer was plowing the field, his beautiful daughter came to him with food, and when her belt came loose, the father suddenly became lustful and engaged in sexual activity, and later regretted it, saying to his daughter, 'Daughter, why didn't you stop me here?' The daughter said, 'Although you are my protector, if this unreasonable thing happens from you, then who will save me from harm? If darkness comes from a lamp, then who will make it bright again?' It is like that." Having said this, he remained silent. The king said, "Even though you have said this much, I do not understand." He said, "In that case, I will speak more clearly: the pearl necklace of the sleeping young woman was secretly taken away by this attendant." The king said, "Then where was it put back?" He said, "Dig up this lion throne." When it was dug up and the ground was excavated, the pearl necklace was retrieved, and the king was amazed and banished the attendant who was jealous of such a wise and virtuous person. That woman also took the pearl necklace and happily went to her home. Bodhi

The Bodhisattva Footprint Wise One also spoke to the king about the faults of desire and other Dharma talks. The king was pleased and said, "Good!" and honored him with great offerings. Furthermore, in the past, there was a daughter of the prosperous sage, named Matchless Maiden, who was skilled in all aspects of dance. Her beauty was extraordinary, capable of captivating all beings. When the Blessed One took birth, she was two years old when her parents passed away. The chief of all the prosperous friends of her father said to the assembly of Matchless Maiden's people, "If you wish, I will make her skilled in all aspects of dance." As he said, he taught her all the forms of dance, making her skilled. Each day, he would prepare the dance costumes and give them to her. At that time, the king of the country summoned that chief and said, "Begin to compose a combination of dance and song." The chief took the dance costumes and, together with Matchless Maiden, went to the royal palace. In front of the king and many other people, they elaborately composed a dramatic combination. There, Matchless Maiden danced with captivating beauty and seductive gestures, captivating all beings and making them desire to meet her. At that time, a son of an ascetic, weary and tired from practicing asceticism, turned his mind towards the pleasures of home, thinking, "I should stay at home." He heard the sound of the clay drum and came there as if to watch a spectacle. He saw the beautiful form of Matchless Maiden's dance gestures and heard the sweet song, captivating his mind. He thought, "Such a sight is not seen in the forest, so I should abandon the place of asceticism." At that time, Matchless Maiden's upper garment fell, revealing her delightful breasts. Knowing that the chief had developed desire, Matchless Maiden said, "Having unwavering faith in the Dharma, who would commit evil for the sake of hell? Those who light a lamp at night will certainly not succeed if they are lost on the path." This well-spoken advice, like a teacher instructing a student, turned him away from the evil path. The chief praised, "Good!" and gave his own upper garment to
