It was proclaimed that whoever could speak the Dharma would be given charity and great respect, but no one appeared, and the king was saddened and disappointed for the sake of the Dharma. In order to test him, the lord of the gods transformed into an ugly yaksha and said that he would teach the Dharma. The king was delighted and wanted to listen to the Dharma, but that yaksha said, "I am hungry and must immediately eat the flesh and blood of a slain person." The king thought, "If I could encounter the Dharma once, it would be priceless and must be bought." At that moment, a handsome youth said, "Please bestow me to the yaksha." The king gave his beloved and irreplaceable son, and the yaksha used his magical powers to cut off the boy's limbs one by one and eat them, but the king, desiring the Dharma, did not become unhappy. The yaksha said to the king, "I am still not satisfied." The king then gave his beloved wife, and the yaksha ate her as before. "O king, I am still not satisfied!" The king said, "I have given my son and wife, what else do you want now?" He said, "Give your own body, and I will be satisfied." The king said, "If I give my body, how will I listen to the Dharma? First teach the Dharma, and after hearing it, I will give my body." Then, that yaksha made a solemn promise and taught the Dharma: From suffering arises sorrow. From suffering arises fear. From fear, liberation. Where there is no sorrow, where is there fear? Hearing this verse, the king was overjoyed and said, "Do with my body as you wish!" The king's mind did not waver from the supreme state, and Indra was very pleased, revealed his own body, took his son with his right hand, and his wife with his left hand, and returned them to the king, and praised and extolled him. The king also said to Indra, "You have fulfilled my Dharma wish, it is excellent!" Furthermore, in the past there was a king named Brahma-datta, who acted according to the Dharma. When the queen conceived a holy child in her womb, the queen wanted to hear good teachings and told the king, and the soothsayers praised the power of the one in the womb. The king offered a hundred thousand gold coins and searched everywhere for good teachings, but could not find them. Then, the time...

A handsome boy was born and named "Seeking Good Words." When he grew up, although he sought good words, he could not find them. Later, after his father passed away, he was placed on the throne. As he had previously instructed the ministers to seek good words, he entrusted them and paid a hundred million gold coins, telling them to search throughout Jambudvipa, but still they could not find them. The king was thus in despair, and the king of the gods, knowing this, transformed himself into an ugly yaksha in order to test him. He sat before the king and said: The Dharma of good conduct should be practiced, The Dharma of bad conduct should not be practiced. Practicing the Dharma in this world and the next, One will abide in happiness. Hearing this, the king was overjoyed and said: "Please, secret messenger, also speak that verse, I will listen." The yaksha said: "If you do as I say, I will speak it later." The king asked: "What must be done?" The yaksha said: "For seven days, burn sandalwood trees in a fire pit, and then you must jump into it, and afterwards I will speak that verse below." Hearing this, the king happily agreed and proclaimed throughout the land: "After seven days, the king, in order to hear good words, will throw himself into a fire pit; whoever wishes to witness a miracle may come." Therefore, hundreds of thousands of creatures and many gods in the sky gathered, and the Bodhisattva, knowing their intention, gathered to witness the miracle. Then, the yaksha rose into the sky and said to the Bodhisattva: "Great king, please do as you have vowed." Then, the king placed his eldest son on the throne, asked forgiveness from the ministers and the people, and comforted the crowd, and then went to the fire pit. He went to the extremely terrifying fire pit, and fearlessly jumped in for the sake of the Dharma, saying, "By the power of my merit, may a verse of truth appear here, as cool as a lotus pond," and having said this, he jumped in, and the fire pit turned into a cool lake filled with lotuses. The king of the gods, seeing the king's miraculous effort that made gods and humans believe, the image of the yaksha disappeared, and he resumed his own form, saying: "The Dharma of good conduct should be practiced." And so on.

The king, having heard the previous verses, had them written on golden tablets and sent them to be spread throughout Jambudvipa. Thus, the king seeking the well-spoken one was none other than the Bhagavan himself. Furthermore, when the Bhagavan himself was once known as the youth seeking the Dharma in its entirety, he wrote down, learned, recited, and mastered all the well-spoken words he heard. Then, while seeking the Dharma in its entirety in all towns and cities, a man sitting in a bird's nest on a mountain said, "I will tell you words that bear the name of the Tathagata." He was overjoyed, but the man said, "I do not teach the Dharma without a price." To this, the youth said, "Even if I give the clothes I wear, worth twenty million kotis, and the jewels I adorn myself with, worth forty million kotis, I will still teach if I abandon my body from this bird's nest on the mountain." Thus, he made such a vow, and after teaching a verse bearing the name, he abandoned his body from the peak of the mountain. Through the blessing of truth, unharmed and uninjured, he was caught by the four kings, who saw him depart in peace, and they praised his wonder. Again, in a past life, in the land of King Brahma-gift in Varanasi, the Bhagavan himself became a householder named Pure Food, who was able to rival the wealth of Vaishravana. He went to the ocean to gather wealth, fulfilling the wishes of the people. Once, he obtained an exquisitely beautiful pearl necklace that came from another jewel island and presented it as a gift to the king, who was very pleased. At that time, the king's daughter, named Sarasvati, heard the words of well-spoken song she sang, and the householder, thrilled with joy, went back to his home. He lost interest in food and everything else, focusing only on the well-spoken words. He thought, "Although I have obtained a vast collection of jewels for twelve years, I have not obtained any jewel of well-spoken words. What shall I do with these stones obtained through great accumulation? Well-spoken words are the true jewel!" So, he sent a man to request the king's daughter to bestow the well-spoken words. The daughter said: Well-spoken words

Because it is obtained with value. If you give away all the treasures you have accumulated in twelve years, I will give good speech." After saying this, the householder very respectfully took out all the treasures accumulated in twelve years, went to the king's residence himself, and listened to the good speech. The king said to that householder: "Good speech can fill the whole earth, and wealth needs to be obtained through great efforts, why did you do this? Without food, can you eat good speech?" The householder said: "What is the use of treasures that generate attachment and hatred? Good speech that eliminates sins and accomplishes merits by hearing, even if the entire earth is filled with treasures to exchange for it, it seems insignificant." After saying this, he wrote those good speeches on golden books and spread them in all directions. At that time, the daughter of the king who spoke good speech was Shariputra himself. Also, in the past, in the royal palace called Four Courtyards, when the World Honored One himself was reborn as King Shibi, he ruled the country according to the Dharma, gave alms of everything desired, served the sick and the helpless, and guided sentient beings to practice the ten virtues, so that the heavenly realm could grow. Indra, in order to test him, transformed himself into the image of a Rakshasa and sat on top of the king's palace, saying: "Alas! Conditioned phenomena are impermanent, and have the nature of arising and ceasing." After saying this, he sat there. The king thought that this was opening the door to Nirvana and pointing out the path to Bodhi, so he put his palms together and said to him: "Friend, please say that verse." The Rakshasa said: "I am hungry, if you give me warm human flesh and blood, I will speak." The king thought that harming others was not right, and in order to hear the good speech, he promised to give his own body. At this time, Indra said: "Alas! Conditioned phenomena are impermanent, and have the nature of arising and ceasing. After arising, they will eventually perish, and their pacification is bliss." The king thought carefully, thinking that this is the door and path to Nirvana, and all Buddhas must arise from this path, so he picked up a weapon and said: "Please accept this reward for the good speech!" He gave away all the flesh and blood of his chest, etc., but he was still not satisfied.
