Because they disdained the Brahmins, the king banished all four of them, and they left, each taking his own wife. After some time, they came to a temple path. When they ran out of provisions, they made an internal rule: to kill one wife at a time and use her flesh and blood to cross the temple path. One of the princes, named Ga, said, "Rather than kill others, it is better to waste one's own life. Let's flee with our wives." So he fled with his wife. On the way, they had no food or drink, and the wife said, "I am going to die." The prince thought, "I cannot let her die after saving my life." So he cut off the flesh of his thigh and gave it to her to eat, and cut the veins of his hand and gave her the blood to drink. Gradually, they reached a place where they lived on roots and fruits. Near that mountain, there was a river where a man had been thrown into the water after his hands and feet had been cut off by enemies. The prince heard the man uttering a cry of distress, and out of compassion, he looked and saw the man. He rescued him from the water and asked him what had happened. The man told him what had happened. The prince satisfied the man with roots and fruits, and then entrusted him to his wife, who took care of him. The man recovered. He became very close to the prince, and they talked and lived together. Bodhisattvas by nature are not tormented by desire, and only occasionally engage in intercourse, not constantly indulging in sex. Due to the power of the Bodhisattva, the roots and fruits in that area grew abundantly and were nutritious, so their bodies became strong and their desires increased. The wife seduced the man with severed hands and feet. The man said, "Your husband saved me from certain death. If he finds out about this, there will be a danger to your life." Although he said this, she did not listen. She seduced him again and again, and unable to control her afflictions, she slept with him. From then on, she became very attached to him and would not go to her own husband even when ordered. The man thought, "Among all hatreds, the worst is the hatred of a woman. If she knows that I am so infatuated with her and sleeping with her, it will undoubtedly cause harm." After he said this, the wife said, "This is true, let's find a way." So she wrapped her head in a cloth and lay down on a rock, and the ground cracked open, and grass and fruit grew.

Having brought it, she asked, "I want salt." He asked, "What good is that?" Seeing a stone scab in the bird's nest on the mountain, she said, "When I had a headache before, the doctor told me to use stone scab, and I got better." So (that person) searched for stone scab. That woman cunningly grabbed the rope, and after sending (that person) on top of the stone scab, she released the rope and threw it into the water. The water carried (that person) to a king's palace. The king of that country died without a son. The officials and other people of that country asked the Brahmin diviner to find a blessed person to inherit the throne. The diviner saw that (person) was staying in one place, adorned with decorations. The diviners said, "We have seen a blessed person," and told the officials, so (that person) inherited the throne. At that time, in order to marry a queen for (that person), the officials of that country and the kings of other countries and wealthy people brought daughters adorned with all kinds of decorations to request the king to marry them. But that king, because he had been deceived by women, did not agree and cursed women. When that husband who had been abandoned by the woman lost all his property, the crops and fruits in the fields became sparse, became powerless, and were threatened by famine, so he carried his incomplete body on his back and begged on all the roads. Whoever asked him, he would say, "I will not leave my family." Wherever he went, he could get alms. In this way, he gradually went to the palace of that king. Some people were surprised and watched. They said, "Our king curses all women, but we have never seen a woman like this who does not leave her family." These words gradually reached the king's ears, and the king asked someone to bring that woman over to see. When that woman came, the king mocked and said, "You ate the flesh of my thighs and drank my blood, carrying an incomplete body on your back, don't you consider that leaving your family? For the sake of stone scab, you threw me off a cliff, carrying an incomplete body on your back, don't you consider that leaving your family?" After saying that, the woman lowered her head in shame.

The ministers asked the king about this, and they explained in detail what had happened. The king banished the woman from the city with words of rebuke. It is said that the young prince at that time was the Blessed One himself, and that woman was Devadatta. Furthermore, in the past, on the seashore, there lived two shangshang birds joined as one body, one named "Dharma-possessing" and the other named "Non-dharma." After some time, Non-dharma fell asleep. Dharma-possessing, while preening, found a nectar fruit. He picked it up and thought: "Should I wake him up for a moment, or should I eat it myself?" Then he thought: "Even if I eat it, it will only nourish one body." So, without waking him, he ate it. When Non-dharma awoke, Dharma-possessing felt a burp from the nectar fruit and asked, "What is this burp from?" Dharma-possessing replied, "It is from the nectar fruit." "Where did you find it?" He explained what had happened. Non-dharma said, "You have done something bad, and I will make you know the time." Once, when Dharma-possessing was asleep, Non-dharma, while preening, saw a poisonous fruit carried by the water, ate it, and fainted. Non-dharma, disturbed by the poison, made the aspiration: "In whatever lifetimes I am born, may I kill you, retaliate against you, and become your enemy!" Dharma-possessing made the aspiration: "In whatever lifetimes I am born, may I perform loving-kindness towards you!" Thus, Dharma-possessing is the Blessed One, and Non-dharma is Devadatta. The two-headed goose is also similar to this. Furthermore, the circumstances of Devadatta's past discord when the fisherman's son became a poet, when the king became the halo of the sun, when the jewelers argued about the value of jewels, the two sons of a householder, and the two sons of Brahmins, should be examined in the one hundred and third volume of the Vinaya-vastu. Furthermore, in the past, when this Blessed One was King Lusha, there was a king named Brahma-dana, who was weaker than the previous king. He was always jealous of the other's glory and acted as an enemy, but King Lusha always held him in loving-kindness. At one time,

Then, King Pure Giving assembled the four divisions of his army and arrived to make war with King Embodied Light. Although King Embodied Light's army was even larger, he did not regard him as an enemy. Instead, he prepared a road of three and a half leagues, adorned it with decorations of jewels, and prepared abundant food and drink. He sent ministers and townspeople to greet him. King Pure Giving also abandoned his angry agitation and made King Embodied Light happy, thinking to return. He went to the presence of King Embodied Light, who led him inside with great respect and satisfied him with abundant food. Then he said, "Please forgive me for my sovereignty! I will always bow to you! Since I have become your friend, please cherish me!" Then he also said, "You have drawn the bow of forbearance, and with a single arrow endowed with qualities that destroys anger and pride, you have utterly defeated us." Then the two became mutually devoted, and Pure Giving returned to his own country. Furthermore, this Bhagavan was once a king named Kinsman. At that time, a rival king named Powerful God assembled his forces and came to seize Kinsman's kingdom. Kinsman asked his ministers what to do about it. Some said to generate courage and retreat, others said to give wealth, and the assembly of ministers discussed how to accomplish it. Others said to resist with troops. The chief of the city, named Water God, who was rich, had much wealth, was generous, and compassionate, said, "I will give as much wealth as I have and repel them with mantras." Although they sent messengers to the rival king and gave wealth, they could not repel him, and the army came. Then King Kinsman thought, "Let each of us be content with our own kingdom and make the gods happy!" Life is short and we will pass away, so know that it is enough to have one meal, one set of clothes, one bed, and one wife. The wise do not quarrel with others, even if one being has a mountain of gold,
