One should make offerings with lights, incense, food, and musical sounds, etc. One should closely abide by the eight-limbed upavasatha vow. Having purified oneself for seven days, one should dwell in a clean place and make aspirations to be born in that Buddha-field. All karmic obscurations, including the five inexpiable sins, will be completely purified, he/she will not be afflicted by any diseases, he/she will live long, he/she will be completely liberated from all fears of untimely death, and all harm from death, enemies, and solitary places, as well as all fighting, disputes, and conflicts will be completely pacified. He/she will not come under the power of any enemies, and all his/her thoughts and wishes will be completely fulfilled. As all those words were spoken, for the sake of names or for the sake of us and so on, according to the ritual that comes from the sutra, in the presence of the seven Tathagatas and the Teacher Sugatas gathered together, offering and praying, and reciting the dharani mantra, just as it was blessed and spoken.

At that time, those sons or daughters of good families who uphold this sutra, extensively and accurately explain it to others, write it or have it written, write it on scrolls, and honor it with flowers, incense, perfumes, garlands, unguents, parasols, and banners—I shall proclaim the various names of that Tathagata, the Medicine Master Vaidurya Light King. Even in dreams, I shall cause beings to hear the names of the Buddhas. If it is wrapped in five-colored silk and placed in a clean place, wherever this sutra is located, there will be the Four Great Kings with their retinues, and also hundreds of thousands of billions of other gods. Those who uphold this sutra will not die prematurely. No one can steal their radiance, and even if it is stolen, it will be recovered. Thus and so forth, the Bhagavan spoke these words, and the words of the noble ones are true and reliable. As promised, today, please also reside in this mandala of the palace where offerings are arranged. Please accept the offerings, and from your vows, remember and encourage the Tathagatas, and accomplish the activities of completely fulfilling the rituals of the sutra. Please bless and grant that we and all sentient beings may quickly obtain all the benefits spoken of in the sutra. Manjushri, the benefit and result of earnestly requesting this profound and vast sutra. Offering practice. Refuge and Liberation: Homage to the great Bodhisattva Mahasattva, the noble Savior. If, for the sake of that sick person, one takes refuge in the Bhagavan Tathagata Medicine Master Bhaisajyaguru, King of Lapis Lazuli Light, and makes offerings with such means, his consciousness will return, as if awakening from a dream, to the place where he should be, either for seven days, or twenty-one days, or thirty-five days, or forty-nine days, his consciousness will return, and he will regain his memory, and the ripening of the fruits of good and bad deeds will appear before him, and even for the sake of life, he will not commit evil deeds. The means of offering is this: Venerable Ananda, if there are those who wish to be completely liberated from great illness, for the sake of that sick person, they should take the eight-limbed vows of purification for seven days and seven nights. To the Sangha, they should offer and serve with food, drink, and all necessities, to the best of their ability. Three times during the day and three times during the night, they should remember the name of the Bhagavan Tathagata Medicine Master Bhaisajyaguru, King of Lapis Lazuli Light. This sutra should also be recited forty-nine times. Lamps should be lit for forty-nine days. Seven images should be made. Before each image, seven lamps should be placed, each lamp being the size of a chariot wheel spoke, and care should be taken to ensure that the lamps do not go out for forty-nine days. Forty-nine or more five-colored banners should be made.
