Those who are below the path of application are on the worldly path. Therefore, at that time, the body upon which one relies is powerful, and the mind upon which one relies is not so powerful. Due to this power, worldly sufferings such as sickness come involuntarily, even if one does not wish them. Because one does not have pure direct perception and magical powers, one directly contacts things that have the characteristics of objects, such as the four elements. Therefore, during the two stages of accumulation and application, it is difficult to actually cut off the obstructing demons. So, at that time, one should train on the mind. When one attains the first ground, the mind upon which one relies is more powerful. By the power of having obtained mastery over direct perception and magical powers, one is free from all the characteristics of objects such as the four elements, poisons, weapons, cliffs, and so on, with regard to the obstructing demons. However, until one reaches the state of Buddhahood, one must still train diligently, because no matter how much hardship one endures, there is no suffering for the body and mind. Below the path of application, one must cut off the non-obstructing demons, which are the manifestations of gods and demons, sickness, suffering, attachment, aversion, the eight worldly concerns, and so on. Even if one has not attained these, if a person has great antidotal power, they can cut them off, and it is necessary to cut them off definitively. That is, from the very beginning of engaging in cutting them off, the self-grasping that arises together with the mind of ignorance is the root of all faults, the basis from which all conceptual thoughts arise, and the arrogant, ignorant, dark mind that confuses the mind and generates all afflictions. This should be cut off by the self-aware wisdom that is arrogant. That is, from the very beginning of entering the Dharma, it is very important to recognize the root of arrogance, which is self-grasping ignorance. However, it is impossible to completely cut off ignorance from the beginning. By constantly training the mind in selflessness, the root of self-grasping arrogance will become less and less, and the wisdom of selflessness will grow more and more. This is simultaneous with progressing through the stages of the path, such as the path of accumulation, and cutting off the demons to be cut off and generating qualities, because if one does not cut off the demons to be cut off, one cannot progress on the path. The demons to be cut off on the path must be cut off definitively from the very beginning of entering the Dharma until the path of seeing. Although there is no root of clinging to reality and afflictions on the path of seeing, one still needs to train the mind until one attains Buddhahood. There are also two types of arrogance: the arrogance to be cut off

There are two kinds of infatuation. Among them, the object of infatuation is ignorance, which is the root of clinging to reality and should be abandoned. The subject of infatuation is the self-aware wisdom that knows ignorance, which is the eliminator, so it is not necessary to abandon it, and even if you want to abandon it, you cannot. When a special experience of realizing selflessness arises from the self-aware wisdom of the subject of infatuation, the merits of joy, etc., mentioned earlier, come along with it. Because it will not be given directly to the Buddha, it is called the demon of fruition. As shown above, incorporating dreamlike experiences into practice enhances all merits and benefits sentient beings. Therefore, it is not necessary to abandon the arising of such joy, and even if you want to abandon it, you cannot. For example, just as crops cannot be prevented from growing when they encounter warmth and moisture, it is not necessary to prevent the arising of perfect merits, and whatever merits arise, they should be incorporated into practice as if they were a dream. Furthermore, attachment and non-attachment are the two that should be abandoned, and infatuation and joy are the two that eliminate. When the fruit reaches its ultimate conclusion, the abandoned and the eliminator are non-existent. Thus it is said. Therefore, one must fully recognize the classification and methods of abandoning the four demons, and in the state of the unborn nature of mind, abide in the great self-liberation in which both the cutter and the cut are non-existent. Fifth, regarding gods and demons, there are six classifications. Machig (a Tibetan place name) said: worldly imputed gods and demons, self-existent gods and demons, illusory appearance gods and demons, self-born gods and demons, infallible karmic gods and demons, and ultimately meaningful gods and demons, there are six in total. Each of these has two types, gods and demons. Ultimately, it is certain that gods and demons are non-existent. For worldly people, sometimes a god is a demon, and sometimes a demon is a god, there is no certainty. Among them, the first is the imputed gods and demons, which are universally known to worldly people. The god refers to an image that appears in the perception of worldly people, that is beautiful, pleasing, and makes people feel happy and satisfied, this is called a god. The demon refers to an image that is ugly, unpleasant, and causes fear in someone's mind, and harms life with its form.
