It is necessary to realize this. As the Heart Sutra says, "In emptiness, there is no form, etc., and no attainment either," thus clarifying that unborn is the nature of the three liberations. Therefore, since the nature of mind is emptiness, whatever thoughts and concepts arise, whether liked or disliked, happiness or suffering, high or low, attachment or aversion, the eight worldly concerns, etc., are all emptiness and unborn. Thus, all the Sutras, Vinaya, and Abhidharma explain that the nature of mind is without inherent existence. The Lama also introduces it as without inherent existence. And when one looks, it also appears to be without inherent existence. This is the unerring nature of reality, so one should be certain of it. As it says in the Manjushri Namasamgiti, "Accomplishment to the ultimate end, without error, all mistakes are completely abandoned, a mind without doubt in the three meanings, the lord of all benefit, the three qualities." Therefore, realizing the ultimate wisdom without doubt, one accomplishes the ultimate benefit for sentient beings. That wisdom also completely abandons errors and mistakes, and has no doubt about the three meanings: the provisional meaning—conventional truth, the definitive meaning—ultimate truth, and the meaning of the various vehicles from the Shravakas and Pratyekabuddhas up to the nine levels of vehicles. And, in order to know the limit of accomplishment and be completely certain, that becomes the quality of benefiting sentient beings, and becomes the master of the three kayas. Then, there are four ways to maintain the practice instructions: Samatha, Vipassana, Yuganaddha, and Conduct. For the first, it is not enough to have just understanding, just experience, just contact, just knowledge, just remembrance at the time of introduction. As it is said, "It is not meditation but habituation," like that, one must integrate experience into habit and gain stability. If one does not do that, one cannot attain accomplishment just by recognizing it. Kundag asked Dampa Rinpoche, "There are few accomplished ones in Tibet, why is that?" Dampa Rinpoche said, "Those who are lazy and idle in practice will not attain accomplishment. Those who are without fortune and hold wrong views will not master intelligence. Those who have not accumulated merit will not generate certainty. Those who are dull and only know some Dharma stories have no measure of experience. Those who have not turned their minds away from samsara will not reach the end of the Dharma. Those who have no backbone in their hearts cannot endure asceticism. Those who study debate and logic will not understand the instructions. Those who do not have the armor of diligence in their minds will not accomplish anything. Until one becomes a Buddha."

In that state, without distraction, maintain continuous mindfulness. Practice without distraction. Practice the antidote in an inexpressible way. Thus it is said. In a secluded place, make the body posture comfortable and let the eyes rest without fixation in the space. Do not think of anything in the mind. For memory and thoughts, remain in a state of not thinking of myself or anything. Even if sudden thoughts arise abruptly, like water and waves, or like clouds in the sky, know the key to self-pacification and self-liberation, and then relax. Whatever thoughts arise are the manifestations of the mind. It is emptiness. Decisively determine that emptiness is the Dharmakaya. In Samadhi, all phenomena appear, but emptiness is like the center of the sky. Do not fixate on any object. Do not grasp, judge, or analyze anything in the mind, just relax and let go. In general, there are various views on Samadhi. But the unerring view of Machig as explained in the profound scriptures is: In the "Collection of Teachings: Questions and Answers," it says: The mind rests in the state of space. Rest in a state without any object of focus. The nature of the mind is unborn, therefore, rest in a state without hope or fear. Unborn is non-action. Rest in a relaxed state without fabrication. Because Dharma-nature transcends thought, rest in a reckless, unrestrained state. Sometimes like a dry human head, the five sense gates are relaxed and let go. Sometimes like a sleeping baby, lie down lazily. Rest in a state of non-distraction. Rest in a state without desire. Rest in a state like a dead person. Rest in your own natural state. Rest in a state without attachment. If you do not understand the key point, no matter how you rest, it is the same as not resting. In the ordinary, undistracted awareness, without being stained by the defilements of fabrication, rest in the state of self-liberation. Even if thoughts arise, Dharma-nature is a help. Inner and outer wisdom in the Dharma increases. Enlightenment is attained, and Buddhahood arises. Therefore, thoughts are spiritual friends, they are help. Non-discriminating emptiness cannot walk the path. Do not stop thoughts, son of the lineage. If you do not understand the key point, no matter how you rest, it is the cause of confusion. No matter how you rest, it is the cause of thoughts. However, you should practice like that. Thus it is said. In the "Limbs," it says: If you have expectations of the Dharma, it is bondage. Just as you do not look back at the path you have already traveled. The nature of mind is originally pure, there is no need to meditate on emptiness or tranquility. The nature of mind is originally self-empty.
