Dream A dream not bad, but good. A melody never repeated before. Now, let's add some clarity to the words. A great pillar erected in the east where the sun rises, is Tsurton Wangnge of Dol. A lion perched on top of the pillar, his nature is like a lion. The lion's turquoise mane growing thick, is understanding the Lama's instructions. The lion floating in the white snow, is a sign of having grasped the lineage of the instructions. Such is the auspicious dream of the east. A great pillar erected in the south where the sun shines, is Ngokton Chodor of Zhung. A fierce tigress on top of the pillar, his nature is like a tiger. The tiger's claws growing from the edge of its teeth, is understanding the Lama's instructions. Him smiling three times, is a sign of the flourishing of the oral transmission teachings. The tiger floating in the forest, is a sign of attaining accomplishment in one lifetime. Sandalwood connected in a series, is a sign of descendants holding the lineage. Such is the auspicious dream of the south. A great pillar erected in the west where the sun sets, is Meton Tsonpo of Tsang Rong. A great garuda descending on top of the pillar, his nature is like a garuda. The garuda's feathers growing thick, is understanding the Lama's instructions. The bird's feathers soaring into the sky, is a sign of having grasped the lineage of the instructions. The bird's eyes looking upwards, is a sign of bidding farewell to samsara. Such is the auspicious dream of the west. A great pillar erected in the north where the sun shines, is you, Milarepa of Gungthang. An eagle descending on top of the pillar, your nature is like an eagle. The eagle's feathers growing thick, is understanding the Lama's instructions. The bird's nest built on a rock, is a sign of life being harder than rock. That bird giving birth to one chick, is a sign of the appearance of one without equal. The sky filled with birds, is a sign of the flourishing of the Kagyu teachings. Such is the auspicious dream of the north. If my old man's words are to be trusted, then the teachings of the practice lineage will surely flourish. Having said that, courage arose in his mind, thinking that if I could exert myself, there would be no doubt, and such a high feeling constantly arose. The benefit of knowing that samsara has no essence is that when he returned to his own country, he became attached to his father's bones and kept them in the corner of the house.

My mother's bones are lying gray and bare on the doorstep of the house. My sister has become a beggar, saying that there are ghosts everywhere, and has gone to the city of the Gandharvas. All the fields are overgrown with reeds. In the crumbling walls of the collapsed courtyard, my parents' ribs lie gray and scattered. The once-existing castle has become like a donkey's ears. The Dharma texts, along with their straps and wooden boards, have been taken away by people. Grass and weeds have grown between the pages. During the day, foxes and wolves howl, and at night, wild animals make long cries. Feeling uneasy and disturbed, I lay there that night, unable to sleep at all. I thought that if I didn't practice the Dharma now, there would be no benefit, and such a thought arose. At dawn, feeling unhappy, I sang this song of Pödma to a person named Pöd Dewa. Alas, alas, kyi hud, kyi hud, ang! Those who place their hopes on the ways of samsara, thinking and thinking, weariness repeatedly arises. Practicing and practicing, suffering surges from the depths of the heart. Circling and circling, they are thrown into the depths of samsara. Those whose minds are disturbed like this, seized by karma, the only thing to do is to practice the Dharma. I pray to Vajradhara, the embodiment of Lord Akshobhya, to bless me to be able to practice in the desolate mountains. In this impermanent, illusory city, a traveler on a long journey feels his heart rise with affliction. In the valley of the wondrous Gungthang region, the food for cattle and sheep is grass. Now it is possessed by demons. This is also an example of impermanence and illusion. This example also makes the yogi practice the Dharma. The house that once had four pillars and eight beams, now resembles the jaw of a lion. The castle that once had four corners, eight sides, and nine stories, now resembles the ears of a donkey. This is also an example of impermanence and illusion. This example also makes the yogi practice the Dharma. The once flat and fertile triangular field, now is the homeland of reeds. Those who once hoped for help from relatives and friends, now are like an army of enemies. This is also an example of impermanence and illusion. This example also makes the yogi practice the Dharma. My kind father (Mila Shessyal) Thöpa Sewa, now (without even a trace remaining) is just a handful of bone ash. My loving mother Nyangza (Nyangtsa) Kar Gyen, now is just one rib bone. This is also an example of impermanence and illusion.
