Because it is the cause of continuously generating the subsequent six consciousnesses. Therefore, the mind, which is the alaya-consciousness that knows the ability of self-generation, is considered to be the immediate cause. At this time, the wise Dagpo Rinpoche summarized the key points of the explanation of the four ways of aggregates, realms, and sources: The aggregation of many dharmas is called aggregates; the author has no other meaning, and holding one's own characteristics is called realms; it is the door to the arising of consciousnesses, so it is called sources; what is cognized or grasped by the six consciousnesses, so it is called objects, etc., this is the literal meaning. Aggregates have the five aggregates of form, feeling, perception, formation, and consciousness; the eighteen realms are composed of objects, roots, and birth; the twelve sources are produced from contact and feeling; form has distinctions such as color and shape; sound has eight kinds such as hearing; smell has four kinds such as fragrance; taste has six kinds such as sweet and sour; touch has fourteen kinds such as soft and rough; dharma has two kinds of conditioned and unconditioned, etc., this is the common meaning. All dharmas of aggregates, realms, and sources have a part of pure wisdom and a part of defiled consciousness. The two, pure and defiled, are gathered together, with the pure as the object to be purified and the defiled as the purifier, and the maturing and liberation of the purifier are in accordance with the order of the object to be purified, thereby manifesting the pure result, the three bodies, this is the secret meaning. All internal and external dharmas contained in the aggregates, realms, and sources are not without being contained in the eight consciousnesses, and these are also contained in the alaya-consciousness. This is also the manifestation of the wisdom of the alaya-consciousness, therefore all dharmas tend to and flow into the wisdom of the alaya-consciousness, the suchness of the dharmadhatu, this is the ultimate meaning. Taking the explanation of these four ways as an example, it is also important to apply it widely to other aspects. Fourth, explaining the differences of the three states, divided into three: the impure state, the state of duality, and the extremely pure state. The first is divided into three: general indication, detailed explanation, and summary of meaning. The first is: Thus, from the combination of causes and conditions, all dharmas of samsara and nirvana appear. (འཁོར་འདས་ཆོས་ཀུན་སྣང་བར་གྱུར།) It is said like this. Thus, generated through six causes and four conditions, the twelve links of dependent origination, from ignorance to action, etc., arise in order, because there is old age and death, so birth

And existence, etc., because they arise in a reverse manner, all the phenomena of samsara become manifest. When the six causes and four conditions are completely purified, and the nature of the twelve links of dependent origination is realized, and ignorance ceases, then actions cease, etc., in a forward manner. And when there is no old age and death, then there is no birth, etc., ceasing in a reverse manner, all the phenomena of nirvana become manifest. The second (part) has three (aspects): commonly explaining how existence (of samsara) is formed, the differences in the perceptions of the three realms, and explaining by combining the causes and effects of the three realms. The first (aspect) is: craving and grasping connect, existence (of samsara) is formed. This is a single verse. If someone asks, from the twelve links of dependent origination, the confused cycle of the three realms arises, what is its order? According to the commentary's view: ignorance, action, consciousness, name and form, six sense sources, contact and feeling, craving and grasping connect, existence (of samsara) is formed, birth and change lead to old age and death. It should be explained by supplementing it completely, that is, ignorance that is ignorant of one's own realm, thereby generating the intention of action, and the virtue and non-virtue that are completely caused by it, the contaminated action that produces rebirth, and the alaya consciousness that is perfumed by its habits, these three are called the three projecting limbs. From this, the name and form that are contained in the name or form that has just formed in the next rebirth, and the six sense sources formed from it, and the contact from which the three are assembled and completely know the realm, and from this the pleasant and unpleasant, discomfort and suffering, etc., are experienced in various ways, these four are called the four projected limbs. Like that, clinging and craving to the realm without separation or union, and wanting to obtain the realm that is craved, and striving for actual benefit, thereby wanting to seek the cause of feeling, and the powerful karma of the next rebirth from the connection of these two is existence, these three are called the three forming limbs. Like that, the birth that is connected to the next rebirth that is accomplished through the projecting limbs and the forming limbs, and the old age and death of its aggregates that are constantly changing and decaying, these two are called the accomplished limbs. In short, from ignorance accumulating the karma of action, placing it on the alaya, from this, from consciousness to feeling is accomplished.
