The Seventh said that from the moment of immediacy, there are seven kinds of mind, from the aspect of being embraced by the four afflictions, there is the afflicted mind, and from the aspect of being embraced by white dharma, there is the immaculate mind, etc., with three parts. In short, from the ocean of the ālaya, like the waves of the mind, it stirs and accumulates, thereby forming saṃsāra. The ālaya-vijñāna is the basis or cause of saṃsāra, and the mind is the condition. In the *Compendium of Vehicles*, it says, "First, the mind of immediacy is the place where consciousness arises; second, the afflicted mind that makes it afflicted, thus distinguishing it into two." Dakpo Rinpoche divided the mind into two and explained it in detail, which also includes this meaning. Among them, the former mind is the place where the six consciousnesses arise from the ālaya, and in conjunction with white dharma, it becomes the cause of the qualities of liberation of the Buddha; the latter mind generates all thoughts of non-understanding, wrong views, and doubts, and becomes the root of delusion in saṃsāra, so it is not reliable. When dividing consciousness into eight consciousnesses, it should also be known that these two minds are combined into one. Second, showing the order of the six consciousnesses and the five aggregates, divided into two: the way the six consciousnesses are deluded by objects, and explaining the order of the five aggregates. The first is: "Object and grasping appear as two, Directing itself to itself and grasping, That mind outwardly scattered appearance part, Taking meaning from the object, consciousness arises." Thus it is said. The clear light of the basis, the great indivisible bindu of primordiality, is moved by the moving wind, and the mind stirs like a wave of water. From the object to be grasped and the grasping subject, although there is no difference in meaning, due to beginningless habits, it appears as two. The mind itself intentionally directs its form to itself, and grasps it as subject and object, thereby appearing, and from this it arises. From this, it arises close to the object. The mind itself, from the outwardly scattered appearance part, generates the taking of meaning from the external object, and from this the six consciousnesses arise, therefore it is deluded in this way. Here, who is deluded? It is the six consciousnesses in the continuum of ordinary beings who are attached to the appearance of objects that are deluded. What are they deluded about? They are deluded about the objects that appear as various kinds. In what way are they deluded? They are deluded by falling into dualistic grasping and not recognizing their own true nature.

One is mistaken by perceiving oneself as something other than the object to be grasped. What causes this mistake? It arises from the agitation of the mind. That is, as explained earlier, the mind and intellect agitate each other, leading to confusion about union (Tibetan: ཟུང་འཇུག་). On the aspect of appearance, one clings to the object to be grasped as truly existent, such as the six objects like form. On the aspect of emptiness, one clings to the mind that grasps, such as the six consciousnesses like the eye. Although there is no object to be grasped that is separate from oneself, the grasping self deliberately directs itself towards itself, perceiving and grasping itself as other, thus entering into dualistic appearance. This is the mistake of perceiving the non-duality of appearance and emptiness as dual. Related to this, from the interdependent arising of the aggregation of object, faculty, and consciousness, the awareness of appearances such as form arises. From this, the appearance of objects such as form expands. This is connected to the discriminating mind, thus enabling one to see the meaning of objects such as form, which is called obtaining appearance. Therefore, although there is no mistake in the self-nature of that momentary appearance of the six aggregates, continuing from that, the mind mistakes its own appearance as an external entity, thus various mistakes and discriminations arise. Because one grasps the six objects such as form in the appearance as external entities, grasping consciousness arises there. Thus, various causes and conditions lead to mistake. Therefore, the way in which appearance, expansion, and attainment dissolve into clear light, and the Dharmakaya becomes manifest, and the way in which appearance, expansion, and attainment sequentially arise from the ground luminosity, thus the illusory appearances of samsara arise, is the profound essence of the Vajrayana. The way in which the six aggregates arise as mistaken is explained from the perspective of the potential of the twelve links of interdependent arising. Therefore, it is said in the commentary that this is "interdependent arising that distinguishes self-nature." Based on this interdependent arising, the twelve links of interdependent arising of the happy realms, which distinguish happiness, and the twelve links of interdependent arising of the bad realms, which distinguish unhappiness, arise. That is, driven by ignorance, performing contaminated actions is due to the agitation like water and waves. Because of the condition of this action, discriminating consciousness arises, seeing the six objects such as form as real. Therefore, since it relies solely on the condition of the root ignorance, all appearances of discriminating consciousness are merely illusory appearances.
