This is playfulness. The self-power of mind-essence wisdom, without wavering from the essence of emptiness, yet the appearance of clarity and emptiness inseparable, without cessation of grasping or appearance, manifests everything. In the state of samsara, these three are called mind, intellect, and consciousness. In the state of transcendence of suffering, it is said to be the Dharmakaya, Sambhogakaya, and the Nirmanakaya that manifests everything. Among them, the mind, whether pure or impure, is empty in essence without birth, luminous in nature, and becomes the basis of all. Especially in the Mantrayana, everything is great bliss, although one, yet from the uninterrupted playfulness of appearance, everything manifests. As mentioned above, the word "also" refers to the various appearances of samsara, nirvana, grasper, grasped, etc., each leaning towards one side, which arise from the Alaya consciousness, then the afflicted mind, then the six consciousnesses, then the fifty-one mental factors, etc., manifesting without interruption. From this, the appearances of the outer world and inner beings manifest, and in the Mantrayana, it is said that from luminosity or co-emergence, the winds, channels, and various inner and outer bodies manifest without interruption. Regarding essence and appearance, the co-emergent mind-essence is the Dharmakaya, and the co-emergent appearance is the light of the Dharmakaya. This is what Gampopa said. In the Abhidharmakosha, it is said that mind, intellect, and consciousness have the same meaning, which is the view of the Hinayana. In the Mahayana view, mind is the Alaya consciousness, intellect is the seventh consciousness, and consciousness refers to the six consciousnesses. Secondly, there are two aspects to how delusion occurs: the Alaya consciousness and the afflicted mind that relies on it, and the order of the six consciousnesses and the five aggregates. The first is: "It itself does not recognize itself, the fabricating mind is agitated, like water waves are agitated." This means that the naturally pure mind, unborn, from the uninterrupted playfulness, because its own essence appears as object and subject, it does not recognize itself. The seventh mind, which fabricates the mind towards objects, is agitated, relying on the agitation like water waves, becoming the affliction of grasper and grasped. Therefore, due to this condition, it is deluded and appears as unreal thoughts and samsara. What is not recognized here? The mind-essence is the essence of the Buddha, the three Kayas.

It is unaware of dwelling on the other shore. What is unaware? It is mind itself. The nature of mind itself is not established in anything, but in its union, the aspect of unborn nature and the uninterrupted clarity, it is unaware by the unobstructed power that appears like object and subject due to the distinction of otherness. How is it unaware? When the mind engages with objects, the seventh consciousness agitates the alaya, like water and waves, clinging to self, attached to self, viewing the aggregates as a source of fear, and being associated with ignorance, it constantly clings to the four afflictions, giving rise to the afflicted mind, and the cycle appears through untrue thoughts. That is, the uncorrected mind itself, ordinary consciousness, free from grasping, when it is connected with sentient beings, it is controlled by dependent origination, and when the wind of mental movement moves, the seventh mind arises and distinguishes between self and other. When one focuses on the unborn nature of mind itself and grasps it as 'I' and 'self', it gives rise to an afflicted mind, and the alaya and each other drive each other, moving like water waves, and again acting, which is untrue complete imagination. From this, the phenomena of samsara, although without inherent existence, appear as if they are true, so it is unaware in that way. Therefore, here, the clear aspect of mind itself is mentioned as the term 'seventh mind', and the aspect of not knowing one's own nature is called ignorance, so it is the recognition of co-emergent ignorance. Therefore, when the seventh mind moves, it performs pure actions, which is true complete imagination. Its own nature remains in a stainless state, which is the stainless mind, and this also belongs to the category of expansion, and it is the equality wisdom of the base state, which should be understood as the same meaning as explained in chapter six. Therefore, the seventh mind that engages with objects, as explained here, is considered to be the mind that does not distinguish between the afflicted mind and the stainless mind. When the other six aggregates arise and cease, their power is placed on the alaya. As explained in the Vijnaptimatrata, the consciousness of mind is the immediately preceding condition of the six consciousness aggregates that will be explained below. Therefore, the synonym of this name is repeatedly mentioned in the self-commentary as 'immediately preceding mind'.
