Eliminate. Then, slowly draw the breath into the body. Then, let the breath rest naturally, focusing on the inhalation and exhalation. Observe the speed of the breath, from where it returns, where it goes, and when it remains still. There are no other points of focus. Second, regarding counting, there are four types: actual counting, abiding, following, and purification. The first, the time, is when entering the generation stage, the time when skillful means and wisdom are equally combined. It is the moment when the downward-moving substance returns upward by its own power. On the path of liberation, first the breath enters the body, and then it is the moment of returning outward. The thought is: in the navel chakra is Āḥ (藏文:ཨཱཿ,梵文天城体:आ,梵文罗马拟音:āḥ,汉语字面意思:阿), in the secret place is Oṃ (藏文:ༀ,梵文天城体:ओ,梵文罗马拟音:oṃ,汉语字面意思:嗡), in the heart or throat is Hūṃ (藏文:ཧཱུྃ,梵文天城体:हुं,梵文罗马拟音:hūṃ,汉语字面意思:吽). Visualize the breath arising from these three places. The focus of the place is to observe from where they arise. Counting is to count from one to ten without error. The recitation is to say Oṃ (藏文:ༀ,梵文天城体:ओ,梵文罗马拟音:oṃ,汉语字面意思:嗡) when exhaling, and Hūṃ (藏文:ཧཱུྃ,梵文天城体:हुं,梵文罗马拟音:hūṃ,汉语字面意思:吽) when inhaling, which are two syllables, or adding Āḥ (藏文:ཨཱཿ,梵文天城体:आ,梵文罗马拟音:āḥ,汉语字面意思:阿) when abiding, which are three syllables, it is said. This is the tradition of the Great Illusion Net. In the Hevajra tradition, Oṃ (藏文:ༀ,梵文天城体:ओ,梵文罗马拟音:oṃ,汉语字面意思:嗡) is recited when entering, Āḥ (藏文:ཨཱཿ,梵文天城体:आ,梵文罗马拟音:āḥ,汉语字面意思:阿) when abiding, and Hūṃ (藏文:ཧཱུྃ,梵文天城体:हुं,梵文罗马拟音:hūṃ,汉语字面意思:吽) when exhaling, which is also done like the Guhyasamaja, and it is said that it does not matter how it is done. Although it is said like this, the actual practice is: first, stop the inhalation and exhalation, and always practice counting ten times without error, doing one round of focus. Then, when the breath enters the body, visualize it arising from the red Oṃ (藏文:ༀ,梵文天城体:ओ,梵文罗马拟音:oṃ,汉语字面意思:嗡) in the throat and reaching the soles of the feet. Abide for a moment, focusing on the Āḥ (藏文:ཨཱཿ,梵文天城体:आ,梵文罗马拟音:āḥ,汉语字面意思:阿) in the navel chakra. When the breath goes out, visualize it arising from the white Oṃ (藏文:ༀ,梵文天城体:ओ,梵文罗马拟音:oṃ,汉语字面意思:嗡) in the secret place and also pervading the crown of the head and the fingers. Practice this focus a little more skillfully, and also do one round of focus. Then, on top of that focus, add the method of counting without error, and practice as before. This is one round of focus. This is what is known as Vajra recitation. Second, abiding is to visualize the time of abiding becoming longer and longer, and the time of arising and entering becoming shorter and shorter. Third, following is the arising of calm abiding when one is able to focus on the three stages of entering, abiding, and rising, together with their corresponding syllables. Fourth, purification is when the breath stops flowing, the inner heat blazes as desired, and the bindus melt as desired, thereby generating the experience of bliss and emptiness and insight. Third, learn about colors and shapes.

It is like this: when the breath goes out, it appears in the form of light rays from the navel or secret place. It rises upwards from the center of the body. It comes out of the nostrils and extends outwards. Meditate on it as being rough, powerful, and having great light. If the illness is mostly cold, then meditate on it as red; if it is mostly hot, then meditate on it as white; if it is balanced, then meditate on it as blue or five colors. Then, when the breath comes in, meditate on its color being the same as before, but gentle and with little force, appearing in a manner opposite to the previous outward extension. Just below the throat, the color and shape disappear, and it reaches the navel with a smooth, soft touch. When it stays, think that it disappears below the navel. This controls the breath and generates happiness. Fourth, learning vase breathing, there are two types: gradual suppression and forceful suppression. First, exhaling is expelling the impure air about ten times. Second, inhaling is inhaling and then suppressing. Third, calming is taking small breaths. If you get used to this, it will calm suffering, so it is called calming. By getting used to these three steps, the state of the fourth, vase breathing, will naturally be powerfully achieved. Forceful suppression is suppressing with the lion-like gesture. This is also the Maha Maya method. It is okay if the instructions of Hevajra are not explained here. This extensive wind guidance is combined with the instructions of Lord Maitripa and Glorious Shiwazangpo. Second, the condensed wind training is forceful inhalation and gradual inhalation. The first is: the body should be bound in the six fire-stake posture. The body is like a bottomless pot, without collarbones above and without intestines below. The middle part has no flesh, blood, or bones, except for the outer membrane. Saying (Tibetan: ཧཱུྃ,Sanskrit Devanagari: हुं,Sanskrit Romanization: hūṃ, Literal Meaning: Hum), exhale the breath and hold it slightly outside. Then slowly and powerfully draw it in, combining it with the sound of (Tibetan: ༀ,Sanskrit Devanagari: ओं,Sanskrit Romanization: oṃ, Literal Meaning: Om), and hold it slightly inside. Visualize the breaths entering downwards from inside the body, coming out from below, going far into the ground, and disappearing. First, draw in the male breath, making it strong and short; in the middle, draw in the female breath, making it subtle and long; finally, the neuter breath will naturally and powerfully arise on its own. Second, gradual inhalation has the view of Lord Maitripa and the view of the Guide to the Path of Liberation. The first is to determine the breath with time and inhale, and the lying posture at night.
