Nala. If you denigrate others, you will lose the benefit of others, and as a result, you will also lose the benefit of yourself. The object is: a person who has faith in the Dharma. The intention is: to knowingly and intentionally want to denigrate. The main part is divided into two: The yogi is without fault, but because others slander him with greed and hatred, it causes that sentient being to no longer trust him, that is, to speak of the faults of pure sentient beings, such as saying "Nimo." The commentary says: To pure sentient beings, that is, to speak of the faults of the yogi, then it becomes the twelfth root downfall. The "Yogacarabhumi-sastra" also only determines it as "a small part," so this does not repeat with the third root downfall, because the former is angry due to strong hatred, and the latter is the difference between speaking of faults due to slight jealousy. Another view is that of the "Extensive Commentary" and the "Self-Commentary," that is, to those who are faithful and seeking the Dharma, to explain the Dharma of emptiness that they cannot understand, or such as the view of no-self, which causes them to no longer trust the secret Dharma. Some people think that not teaching those who want the secret Dharma is also considered denigration. The time is: when that sentient being is denigrated. The way of transformation is: if you do not trust the secret mantra, it is a downfall; for the sutras of the Characteristics School, it is a gross offense; for the Dharma of the Hearers' Vehicle, it is considered an act of wrongdoing. However, the way that generating distrust in the secret Dharma does not repeat with the seventh root downfall is that the former wants to reveal secrets, and the latter wants to denigrate, and the motivation of the two is different. If it is not intended to denigrate, but the disciple's disposition is not understood, and it is taught with compassion, causing the other party to be denigrated, it is also a gross offense; generating slight distrust is an act of wrongdoing. The situation of no downfall is: seeing that the sentient being is the time to be tamed, temporarily punishing; or seeing that it is beneficial to many people, denigrating one, and then gathering them with skillful means, then there is no downfall. In short, one should gather according to the disposition of the disciples, with the Dharma that corresponds to them, and abandon slandering others with slight jealousy, so that one can overcome this root downfall. The thirteenth root downfall. The essence is: abandoning the obtained samaya objects is a heavy root downfall. As it is said: Regarding samaya, the real things, not relying on them is the thirteenth. It is also said: Abandoning the obtained samaya is heavier than others. The reason is: food
