For the individual who does not cling to the realm of conditioned existence, does not cling to characteristics, and does not affirm, if they cling to an object, cling to characteristics, or affirm, that is a fault. If they think that not clinging or not affirming is a virtue, that kind of object, namely the object of the three spheres, should be known as existing as if indistinct in the mind, as a cause for generating the clinging of not clinging to characteristics and not affirming. In short, Nāgārjuna said, "Those of small intellect, who view phenomena as either existent or nonexistent, by viewing in that way, they do not see the peace of near quiescence, which is to be viewed." And, "To say 'exists' is to cling to permanence; to say 'does not exist' is to view as annihilation. Therefore, the wise should not abide in existence and nonexistence." And, "Those who make elaborations on the Buddha who has transcended elaborations, who make elaborations on the inexhaustible, all those who are diminished by elaborations will not see the Thus-Gone One." As it is said, one should not abide in either the existence or nonexistence of clinging to characteristics, nor in the existence or nonexistence of affirming. Some great scholars affirm the middle way of existence and nonexistence and say that one should abide in that, saying that it is the great other-emptiness. But in the sutras and tantras, it is seen only that it is said, "The wise also do not abide in the middle way," and so forth. If some think that one should not abide in anything, what difference is there, since it is the same in clinging to reality? Then, should one block all mental activities and meditate solely on non-conceptuality? It is not like that, for if one blocks mental activity, that itself is a very great mental activity. Moreover, for contaminated non-conceptuality alone, where would there be a path to liberation? For a temporary stupor of forgetfulness, such as fainting, sleep, being bewildered by drugs, death, and so forth, occurs to sentient beings many times. When meditating on the path, if consciousness remains in fragments, that is abiding in stagnation, which is a very great wrong path. The great Indian master said, "One does not abandon in a herd of horses, one breaks the plow in a herd of oxen, one does not find wisdom with fragments of consciousness." Moreover, this lineage holds that "Pleasure, clarity, and non-thought, these three are wrong paths of meditation." So it is held. The samadhi of non-perception is a very great wrong path. The venerable Phagmo Drupa said, "Last night, my memory ceased, and I could not remember anything, remaining in that state for a long time." The Kadampa master said, "Oh, I do not like that."

That is certain. In the past, I was deceived many times by such things. So it is said. The non-conceptualization that is preceded by investigation with Madhyamaka reasoning, etc., is also the non-conceptualization that desires the cessation of investigation, merely a commonplace person, and the calm abiding together with investigation is calm abiding together with distraction, and the understanding of the general meaning is not close to the aspect of insight. Similarly, in the desire realm, the non-conceptualization of the samadhi of causal absorption, and the non-conceptualizations of the two upper realms in their respective places, are easy to understand as merely the cause and effect encompassed by the three realms. The non-conceptualization of the Arhats of the Hearers and Solitary Realizers, in which all feelings are stopped, is the cessation attainment of the Lesser Vehicle. There are also those who remain in it for a kalpa, etc. Ordinary Bodhisattvas cannot abide in the non-manifestation of reality, but those who have attained the bhumis can actually enter the state of the non-manifestation of reality, but there is a fault of manifesting the ultimate reality at the wrong time, and because of the fear of harming others, they are not allowed to remain in it for more than seven days. In the path of the Vajrayana, there are also various non-conceptualizations similar to those mentioned earlier, as well as when the generation stage of one's own path is stable, when the illusions of day and night are mixed, when the power of bliss and warmth are mixed, the luminosity with elaboration, and what arises from the non-elaboration Mahamudra, etc. Although there are many aspects of non-conceptualization, each one has its own faults and non-faults. The distinctions between experience and realization, etc., need to be inquired from a qualified and blessed lama, so that the key points are understood without confusion. In general, the realization of the suchness of mind, the correct view manifested by one's own awareness wisdom, is the supreme non-conceptualization spoken of in the non-conceptual dharani, etc. Because this is yogic direct perception, it is not a non-conceptualization in which all thoughts have ceased. Because there is no place for perversion, it is not a state of mind with conceptual thought. Because it is the nature of the wisdom that discriminates the Dharma, it is not the rain of self-awareness of each individual. In short, without losing the correct mindfulness, and the correct samadhi.
