By mixing fire into the earth and practicing, it is like a great fire spreading to a great forest. If it becomes an aid to samadhi, then abide in it. There are also times when this is said to be a gathering practice. At that time, for these two, there are small and medium gathering practices. Although limitless benefit for others is accomplished, there is no arrogance. Even if one spends millions of years benefiting others, if not even one person realizes the Dharma, there is no arrogance such as discouragement. This is considered a great gathering practice. Some also say that the practice of Samantabhadra is the ultimate of the practice that surpasses all directions. It seems that after learning the practice of Samantabhadra in the Paramita Vehicle, there is no need to learn other Bodhisattva practices. At that time, the practice that surpasses all directions is divided into four, such as surpassing food. Although it is allowed to combine the qualities of the practice that surpasses all directions mentioned here with the practice of Samantabhadra, the view of Rongzompa is reliable. In general, the order of practice is not necessarily like this, because the entry of Vajrayana yogis is immeasurable. Lohipa, Lavapa, and Shiwai Lha and others entered a state of extreme non-attachment from the beginning, and through this means, they performed the practice that surpasses all directions. Like Saraha, the practice with attachment and the great gathering practice were accomplished simultaneously. Like Virupa, after obtaining the sixth bhumi, he performed the gathering practice through asceticism. After Dombi Heruka obtained the supreme accomplishment, in order to tame those to be tamed, he manifested the practice of non-attachment in the charnel ground with his consort. Later, he reversed the stupas of the Shravakas, rode a tiger, etc., which were related to asceticism, and manifested the practice of gathering. After the noble Nagarjuna obtained accomplishment, he gave his head to the capable youth, etc., and entered the difficult giving of characteristics. Dombi Heruka the Great and Prince Sakara and others, in the instant they were blessed by the lama and dakinis, the supreme object of Mahamudra was accomplished, and the contaminated aggregates disappeared. Therefore, in the worldly convention, there was no need to perform any of those practices, etc., there are limitless.

Therefore, one should not think one-sidedly. In particular, most of the holy beings of this precious Kagyu lineage initially had no expectation whatsoever for any worldly achievements, and solely practiced the Great Seal's innate yoga with extremely simple conduct. When the realization free from elaboration became stable, in order to blend appearance and mind into one taste, they also engaged in the ascetic conduct of equalizing all circumstantial appearances without relying on any possessions or companions. When the realization of one taste was perfected and they reached the realm of no-meditation, outwardly, in the manner of simple conduct, they exclusively performed the great feast gatherings that transcend all limitations. If combined with the individual biographies of their deeds, it would become very clear and convincing, but here, the words are daunting. Thus, these two simple conducts, together with the great feast gatherings that transcend all limitations, completely fulfill the three aspects of completion, maturation, and purification common to both Sutra and Tantra, and all aspects of the path. Among the six branches of Tantra, they complete the subsequent absorption, and among the six dharmas, they perfect the yoga of the illusory body and clear light, as well as the combined yoga of inner heat. At the time of the path, they attain the Vajra Heart and Wisdom Vajra, which are equal to mind and bindu, and enter the mandala of the heart and the mandala of wisdom, essence, or great bliss. If all these conducts are summarized from the perspective of boundaries, as long as one has entered Tantra but has not entered the conduct of Samantabhadra, one is called a beginner. One should properly protect the vows that have true meaning and enter into the meaning of their faith with devotion. The vows regarding food and possessions should be entered into without contradicting the designations of place, time, and one's own basis. In the "Stainless Light," it says: "Therefore, a beginner should also engage in eating what is to be eaten and what is not to be eaten, and what is of caste and not of caste, according to the designations of the place. In some places, one becomes completely purified by the skull water in a skull cup." And so on. Therefore, a beginner greatly delights in practicing mantra and meditation, and until mantra is accomplished or wisdom is accomplished, regarding place and caste...
