This refers to the practice of gradual conduct. However, it is not necessarily the case that this conduct must first be accompanied by characteristics or be without characteristics. As the Compendium of Conduct states: "Regardless of conduct with or without characteristics." After that, I shall explain the conduct of overcoming all directions and the great conduct of gathering. It can be gradual, two, or only one of the three: with characteristics, without characteristics, or extremely without characteristics. From this, seeing the truth of Dharma-nature, obtaining the supreme accomplishment, the first result of Mahamudra, until one becomes a Buddha, these two conducts should be practiced in union. Among them, the fourth, the conduct of overcoming all directions, mainly emphasizes the aspect of realizing one's own benefit, and is the conduct of not being deceived by the four maras and the lesser vehicles. The fifth, the conduct of gathering, mainly emphasizes the aspect of accomplishing perfect benefit for others, and is the act of maturing and liberating sentient beings through the four activities. Because the mind's clinging is exhausted, all views and tenets are manifestly destroyed, hence it is victorious over views. As it is said: "The noble ones have completely abandoned old age, death, and disease, and have eradicated the suffering of old age from its roots. Those born from karma and afflictions, because there is no 'that' in them, therefore there is no 'that'." Thus, because one is free from birth, old age, sickness, and death caused by karmic forces, one has conquered the Lord of Death. Because afflictions and near afflictions are completely purified, one is not deceived by afflictions. Because all aggregates, elements, and sense bases are purified into the Vajra body, speech, and mind, one has separated from impure aggregates. Because there is no attachment to qualities as being supreme, all arrogance is exhausted, and one is not deceived by the Mara of the Sons of the Gods, hence one is victorious over the four maras. Because one realizes that all vehicles gather into one great Vajra principle, one is victorious over the lesser vehicles, hence one possesses the three victories, and is therefore called abiding in the conduct of overcoming all directions. At that time, although all signs and qualities are complete, due to the exhaustion of arrogance and the power of gaining control over the mind, the Buddhas come to welcome one, and the practitioner travels the path of contemplating where one's own self should go, therefore quickly attaining Buddhahood is the Dharma-nature, as Gyalwa Rangjung (Rongzom Chokyi Zangpo) said. Some say that because of awakening from ignorance, one overcomes sleep, and even if one eats poison, it turns into nectar.

It is said that one overcomes food by fasting, one overcomes wind by stopping contaminated winds, and one overcomes bias by having no bias towards all of samsara and nirvana, thus giving rise to four supreme victories. To this, glorious Self-Arisen (Dpal rang byung) says: It is also evident that some non-Buddhist ascetics have abandoned food, clothing, and the pleasures of the desire realm. Therefore, one should not consider them to have the conduct of supreme victory. Therefore, the actual operation of sleep and karmic winds exists in both of the upper realms. The ability to transform poison into nectar exists in non-Buddhist mantra practitioners and those who have achieved the ability to fly in the sky, and so on. As for the mere words “having no bias towards all of samsara and nirvana,” no matter how one thinks about it, one cannot understand it without analysis, so they will not become the contextual meaning of this conduct. Abiding in this conduct, the activity of ripening and liberating the disciples' faculties, thoughts, inclinations, capacities, and predispositions as they are, is the nature of reality. Like a magical being acting within a magical army, one does not cling to appearances and one's pride is exhausted, therefore this is the great feast conduct. This is the view of the glorious Self-Arisen. Accomplished through overcoming bias, the conduct of gathering for the benefit of others is established. It is also said that this is the conduct of a Bodhisattva. In the outer commentary of the Compendium Sutra, it says: There are two types of conduct, the conduct of a Bodhisattva is that whether it contradicts the world or not, in whatever way the benefit of sentient beings is perfected, the mantra practitioners are able to fully engage in that way. Generally, at the end of secret conduct, in order to test whether one can engage in asceticism, one goes to noisy places such as large markets, observes whether one is harmed by obstacles, and mixes oneself with obstacles, which is called feast conduct. Under the conduct of asceticism, one is not attached, not angry, not fearful, and not deliberating, therefore, in places of offering by outcasts or evil castes or non-Buddhists, or in front of a cruel king, etc., those people will refute, insult, and beat, and so on.
