If the mind is not stable, one will fall into being a priest of black people's towns. These are the ten falls. The ten different errors are: there are errors in faith and desire; there are errors in love and attachment; there are errors in the emptiness of the nature of knowledge and the emptiness of conceptualization; there are errors in the realm of dharma and nihilistic views; there are errors in experience and realization; there are errors in monks and pretenders; there are errors in confusion and demonic possession; there are errors in accomplished ones and imposters; there are errors in doing things for others and doing things for oneself; there are errors in skillful means and deception. These are the ten different errors. The ten non-erroneous dharmas are: not being attached to anything, renouncing from home to homelessness is non-erroneous; carrying the supreme lama, the virtuous spiritual friend, on one's head like a crown is non-erroneous; practicing the three, hearing, thinking, and meditating on the Dharma, is non-erroneous; having high views and low conduct is non-erroneous; having a broad mind and strict vows is non-erroneous; having great wisdom and little arrogance is non-erroneous; having rich instructions and being diligent in practice is non-erroneous; having good experience and realization and not being conceited is non-erroneous; being able to stay alone and also being able to join a group is non-erroneous; having no attachment to self-interest and being skilled in means for the benefit of others is non-erroneous. These are the ten non-erroneous dharmas. The fourteen meaningless dharmas are: having obtained a human body and not remembering the sacred Dharma is like going to a treasure island and returning empty-handed, it is meaningless; entering the door of Dharma and then establishing a household is like a moth jumping into a flame, it is meaningless; staying in the presence of a Dharma teacher without faith is like dying of thirst by the sea, it is meaningless; Dharma that does not become an antidote to the four roots and clinging to self is like putting an ax and a tree together, it is meaningless; instructions that do not become an antidote to afflictions are like a sick person carrying a medicine bag, it is meaningless; learning language that does not penetrate one's mindstream is like a parrot reciting, it is meaningless; giving alms after taking what was not given through theft, robbery, and deception is like putting wool in water, it is meaningless; to sentient beings

Offering to the Three Jewels after taking a vow is like cutting off a son's flesh to give to his mother, it is meaningless. Pretending to be virtuous and enduring for the sake of one's own desires in this life is like a cat stalking a mouse, it is meaningless. Performing great virtuous deeds out of a desire for fame and gain in this life is like exchanging a wish-fulfilling jewel for a single quince or a lump of tsampa, it is meaningless. Having heard much but one's own mindstream remaining ordinary is like a doctor being afflicted by a chronic disease, it is meaningless. Being skilled in pith instructions but lacking experience is like a wealthy person without the key to their treasury, it is meaningless. Explaining the Dharma to others without having understood its meaning oneself is like a blind person leading a blind person, it is meaningless. Holding the experiences arising from skillful means as supreme and not seeking the meaning of the ultimate reality is like mistaking copper for gold, it is meaningless. These are the fourteen meaningless Dharmas. The eighteen faults of practitioners are: dwelling in solitude but striving for greatness in this life is a fault of practitioners; acting as the leader of the sangha but fulfilling one's own desires is a fault of practitioners; being learned in the Dharma but not fearing sin is a fault of practitioners; being skilled in profound pith instructions but one's own mindstream remaining ordinary is a fault of practitioners; maintaining strict discipline but having great desire is a fault of practitioners; having good experiential realization but not taming one's own mind is a fault of practitioners; entering the Dharma but not abandoning attachment and aversion to worldly matters is a fault of practitioners; abandoning worldly matters to practice the Dharma but not giving up farming is a fault of practitioners; having gained understanding but not putting it into practice is a fault of practitioners; making vows to practice but not being able to stay committed is a fault of practitioners; having nothing to do but practice the Dharma but not being able to control one's behavior is a fault of practitioners; relying on the generosity of others for food and clothing but engaging in worldly pursuits is a fault of practitioners; using the power of virtuous practice on the sick and possessed is a fault of practitioners; teaching profound pith instructions for the sake of food and wealth is a fault of practitioners; praising oneself through skillful means and disparaging others through skillful means is a fault of practitioners; explaining pith instructions to others but one's own mindstream not being in accordance with the Dharma is a fault of practitioners; not being able to stay alone and not knowing how to associate with others is a fault of practitioners; not being able to enjoy happiness and not being able to endure suffering.
