If it arises naturally, do not abandon it because it is accomplishment. Do not abandon any method, as it is a stepping stone to wisdom. Do not abandon the practice of the body that can accomplish and is capable. Even if the ability is small, do not abandon the thought of benefiting others. These are the ten things that should not be abandoned. The ten things to be known are: External appearances seem to be deceptive, so know them to be unreal. The inner mind itself seems to be selfless, so know it to be emptiness. Intermediate thoughts seem to arise from conditions, so know them to be sudden. The arising body and speech seem to be compounded, so know them to be impermanent. All the happiness and suffering of sentient beings arise from karma, so know that the law of karma is infallible. Suffering seems to be the cause of definite emergence, so know it as a virtuous friend. Happiness and joy seem to be the root of samsara, so know attachment as a demon. Distractions seem to be obstacles to Dharma, so know them as obstacles to merit. Obstacles seem to be the spur to virtue, so know enemies and obstacles as gurus. Ultimately, all dharmas seem to be without inherent existence, so know them to be equal in everything. These are the ten things to be known. The ten things to be practiced are: Having entered the door of Dharma, do not enter the group of worldly dharmas, but practice according to the Dharma. Having abandoned the homeland, do not establish a foundation in the human realm, but practice without attachment. Having relied on the noble lama, abandon pride and practice according to his instructions. Having trained the mind in hearing and thinking, do not just talk about it, but put knowledge into practice. Having realized that realization has arisen in the mind, do not let it go casually, but practice without distraction. Having developed practice in the mind, do not join gatherings and distractions, but practice in solitude. Having made vows and commitments, do not let the three doors be unguarded, but practice the three trainings. Having generated the supreme bodhicitta, do not work for your own benefit, but practice whatever you do for the benefit of others. Having entered the door of mantra, do not leave the three doors in an ordinary state, but practice in the three mandalas. In youth, do not wander around aimlessly, but practice asceticism at the feet of a noble spiritual friend. These are the ten things to be practiced. The ten things to be diligent in are: Beginners should be diligent in hearing and thinking.

After being born, one should diligently practice meditation. Until stability is attained, one should diligently stay in solitude. If agitation is excessive, one should diligently subdue awareness. If dullness is excessive, one should diligently clarify awareness. Until the mind is stable, one should diligently abide in equipoise. Relying on equipoise, one should diligently engage in post-meditation. If inharmonious obstacles are numerous, one should diligently practice the three types of patience. If desire and attachment are strong, one should diligently forcefully reverse attachment. If love and compassion are weak, one should diligently cultivate the mind of bodhicitta. These are the ten dharmas to be diligent in. The ten dharmas of exhortation are: Thinking about the difficulty of obtaining leisure and endowment, exhort oneself to practice the sacred Dharma. Thinking about death and impermanence, exhort oneself to engage in virtuous deeds. Thinking about the infallibility of cause and effect, exhort oneself to abandon sinful and unwholesome actions. Thinking about the faults of samsara, exhort oneself to strive for liberation. Thinking about the suffering of sentient beings in samsara, exhort oneself to cultivate the mind of bodhicitta. Thinking about the inverted and confused minds of sentient beings, exhort oneself to listen and contemplate. Thinking about the difficulty of abandoning confused habitual patterns, exhort oneself to meditate and practice. Thinking about the flourishing of afflictions in this degenerate age, exhort oneself to apply antidotes. Thinking about the many obstacles in this degenerate age, exhort oneself to practice patience. Thinking about wasting one's life in various distractions, exhort oneself to exert effort. These are the ten dharmas of exhortation. The ten ways of straying are: If faith is small and wisdom is great, one will stray into becoming a mere talker. If faith is great and wisdom is small, one will stray into becoming a stubborn and dogmatic person. If diligence is great but there are no instructions, one will stray into making mistakes and going astray. If the imputations of listening and contemplation are not cut off beforehand, one will stray into becoming a source of darkness in meditation. If understanding is superficial and there is no practice, one will stray into becoming a boastful Dharma storyteller. If the mind is not trained in skillful means and great compassion, one will stray onto the path of the lesser vehicle. If the mind is not trained in wisdom and emptiness, whatever one does will stray onto the path of samsara. If one does not balance the eight worldly concerns, whatever one does will stray into worldly conditions. If the faith and desires of villagers are strong, one will stray into pleasing evil people. If merit and power are great
