If antidotal thoughts arise, such as "Is this really without benefit or harm?", then the antidote itself will dissolve in its own place. As it is said, when the nature of the antidote, the aspiration for non-reality, is examined, it too dissolves without support in its own place, and one relaxes in that state. These are taught as the essential instructions for the accomplishment of analytical meditation. Abide in the state of the essence, the ālaya. This is the actual instruction on how to abide, which is to separate from all the activity of the seven consciousnesses, and to abide in the nature of all dharmas, the state of the ālaya, the essence, the good, the tathāgatagarbha, which is indicated by the term, in the state of being free from elaboration, clear, and non-conceptual. Do not grasp with the mind at anything that has not been established as a nature, but leave it in its natural state. In short, do not follow after conceptual thoughts, but rather rest the mind in a clear and non-conceptual state, wherever it may abide. This is the essential point of abiding meditation. The subsequent seven branches are explained as before. Second, during the breaks between sessions, act like an illusory person. As it is said, during the breaks between sessions, whatever activity you engage in, do not separate from the experience of equipoise. Continuously cultivate the aspiration to know that all appearances, both self and others, the environment and its inhabitants, are like an illusory person, appearing but without reality. Second, there are three aspects to cultivating relative bodhicitta: preparation, the main practice, and the activities during session breaks. First, the preliminaries are as before. It is necessary to cultivate loving-kindness and compassion as the basis for giving and taking. First, visualize your own root mother in front of you. This mother has cared for me with great effort since I was in the womb. She endured all kinds of sickness, cold, and hunger. She gave me food and clothing, wiped away impurities, taught me goodness, and prevented me from evil. Therefore, I am now able to encounter the teachings of the Buddha and practice the Dharma, so she is extremely kind. Not only in this life, but also in countless lifetimes, she has done the same. For my benefit, she herself has wandered in samsara and experienced various sufferings. Cultivate compassion intensely, thinking of this. Then, generate compassion that is not just lip service, and after becoming skilled, gradually expand the scope of practice, thinking that all sentient beings are like your own root mother, and that there is not a single being who has not been your mother since beginningless time, and that there is not a single being who has not shown you kindness. First, generate compassion for those who are easy to relate to, such as relatives and friends. For beings who are experiencing great suffering

Meditate on the three lower realms. On the wretched people. Meditate on those sinners who are happy in this life but immediately go to hell after death. Once skilled, meditate on enemies and demons, etc., who are difficult to generate and cause harm. Then meditate on all sentient beings. My parents unwillingly experience all kinds of suffering, and moreover, they enjoy the coarse matter that is the cause of suffering, these people are so pitiful. What should I do? Now I too will repay their kindness by eliminating harm, bringing comfort and happiness, thereby benefiting them, cultivate this unbearable determination. The second is to practice the exchange of giving and taking alternately. As it is said in the scriptures, "Apply this to the wind and act." For those parents who have become the object of compassion, suffering directly harms them, and afflictions indirectly harm them. Therefore, contemplate that I take upon myself all the various sufferings that exist in the mother's body, as well as the karma of afflictions, and strongly wish for them to occur. Contemplate that my body, possessions, the merits and happiness of the three times are all given unreservedly to parents and all sentient beings, and contemplate that these happinesses are given to others one by one, and strongly wish for them to obtain it. In particular, contemplate the distinction of clear visualization. As you inhale, gather all the sins, obscurations, and sufferings of all sentient beings into a black mass, enter through the nostrils, and dissolve into your heart, thereby freeing sentient beings from sins and sufferings forever. When exhaling, contemplate that all your happiness and merits emanate from the nostrils in the form of moonlight, shining white light, and dissolving into all sentient beings. Contemplate that they immediately attain the state of Buddhahood as a result, and cultivate joy. In this way, apply the practice of giving and taking to the wind, and practice it as the main content of a session. Afterwards, also practice it whenever you remember. This is the main content of mind training. As Shantideva said: "If one does not truly exchange one's own happiness with the suffering of others, one will not attain Buddhahood, nor will there be happiness in samsara." And so on, it is widely proclaimed. The third is the practice in between sessions: three realms, three poisons, roots of virtue.
