Therefore, it is necessary to diligently cultivate the conventional Bodhicitta. The root of the method for cultivating it with aspiration is as stated by the master Shantideva: "Whoever wishes to quickly protect themselves and others should practice the secret and sacred exchange of self and others." As it is said, it is only the meditation sequence of exchanging self and others that will be explained below. Other mind-training sequences are also branches derived from this. The third part is divided into two points: explaining the actual text guidance and supplementing it with the lineage's instructions. The first part is divided into seven points: relying on the preliminary support Dharma, cultivating the actual Bodhicitta, transforming adverse conditions into the Bodhi path, summarizing the practice of one lifetime for cultivation, the measure of mind training accomplishment, the vows of mind training, and the precepts of mind training. The first point is: first learn the preliminaries. As it is said, this is divided into two: the preliminary of a session and the preliminary of guidance. The first is that at the beginning of each session, visualize on the lotus and moon seat on your crown the root guru with a smiling face, possessing radiant splendor, and abiding with his heart contemplating beings with unconditioned compassion. Contemplate as the essence of the collection of all root and lineage gurus. With a sincere and respectful mind, if you wish, you can also recite the lineage prayer. In particular, pray that the true and complete virtuous friend, the great spiritual teacher, bless me, and cause the special mind of loving-kindness, compassion, and Bodhicitta to arise in my mindstream. After praying in this way hundreds and thousands of times, visualize the guru descending from the Brahma aperture on your crown and abiding in the heart in a light tent-like, upward-facing oval space, and generate sincere respect and devotion. This is the Guru Yoga, which is very important at the beginning of each session. The second is the four thoughts of precious human rebirth, impermanence of death, faults of samsara, and karma and its effects. If it is a new guidance, it should be explained extensively according to the stages of the path, and it must be cultivated until it arises in the mind. If you prefer a concise meditation point, then think about obtaining the support for practice—the precious human body endowed with leisure and endowments—and you need to accumulate perfect virtuous causes. Among sentient beings, being able to purely accumulate virtuous deeds is extremely

It is difficult to obtain the fruit of leisure and endowment with few causes. Compared to other beings such as animals, obtaining a human body seems to be just a possibility. Therefore, I will definitely not waste this one time I have obtained a human body, but will definitely practice pure Dharma. Moreover, life is uncertain and there are many causes of death. There is no certainty that I will not die even today. Therefore, I must strive to practice the holy Dharma right now. At the time of death, nothing will follow except good and evil, and there will be no benefit whatsoever from food, wealth, enjoyment, dwelling, body, or power, so they are absolutely unnecessary. After death, due to the power of karma, no matter which of the six realms one is born into, there is nothing but suffering, not even a hair's breadth of happiness. The result of happiness and suffering arises from the actions of good and evil, which is infallible, so one should not commit evil even if it costs one's life. One should diligently strive to do only good, and practice this earnestly. At the end of each session, practice the seven-branch prayer as much as possible, and during the breaks between sessions, put the meaning of the object of focus into practice, which should be applied to all preliminary and main practices. Second, the main practice has two parts: meditating on ultimate bodhicitta as an adjunct, and meditating on relative bodhicitta as the main practice. The first has two parts: session and between sessions. The first, the preliminary practice is after guru yoga, sitting with the body upright, counting the outgoing and incoming breaths without disturbance up to twenty-one times, so that one becomes a suitable vessel for meditation. The main practice is: "Consider all phenomena as dreams." As it is said, all phenomena of the container and its contents, appearing as objects to be grasped, are merely illusions of one's own mind, and there is not even a little bit of true existence, just like the appearances in a dream. Think like this and cultivate a little familiarity. If you think, "Is the nature of mind real?" then you should "Examine the nature of unborn awareness." As it is said, by staring intently at the essence of one's own mind, since no color, shape, etc., is established, and there is no source of arising, it is unborn in the beginning. Now it does not abide anywhere, such as inside or outside the body. In the end, there is no place to go or cease, and one should obtain a definite understanding of the nature of awareness that is free from arising, ceasing, and abiding, through the investigation of searching for the mind. At that time, one should think that all body and mind are empty. Emptiness
