The basis is: the Dharmakaya, which is the state of immovability. The cause is: arising from the great compassion that wishes to benefit all sentient beings. The fields are: completely pure lands and also not completely pure lands. The time is: as long as the world exists, it will not be interrupted. The nature is: with the form of three manifestations, namely, the craft emanation, such as playing the lute, etc., being incomparably skilled and adept in various crafts; the birth emanation, such as rabbits, etc., also taking on various inferior bodies; the supreme emanation, descending from Tushita, and showing the entry into the womb, until showing the entry into great peace. Thus, it is said in the Ornament of Sutras: Craft and birth and great enlightenment, constantly showing nirvana, this body of the Buddha's emanation, is the great means of liberation. So it is said. Also in the Uttaratantra: With various natures of emanation, showing birth, descending from the Tushita heaven, entering the womb and being born, being skilled in crafts, delighting and playing in the retinue of consorts, renouncing, practicing austerities, going to the Bodhi tree, subduing the hordes of demons, and perfecting the wheel of Dharma of enlightenment, and showing the entry into nirvana, in the impure lands, as long as samsara exists, it will always be shown. So it is said. The way to enter is: guiding ordinary worldly people to rejoice and enter into the three kinds of nirvana, each according to their capacity. The way to ripen is: to make those who have entered the path perfect the accumulations. The way to liberate is: to liberate those who are fully matured with virtue from the bonds of existence. Thus, it is said in the Uttaratantra: Guiding the world to enter the path of peace, and causing them to ripen and prophesy, is the form of the cause. So it is said. Thus, these eight are the characteristics of the emanation body. It is said in the Ornament of Clear Realization: By whatever, as long as samsara exists, constantly benefiting beings in various ways, the body that simultaneously performs, is the emanation body of the Sage, never ceasing. So it is said. There are three characteristics, namely, the characteristic of equality, the characteristic of permanence, and the characteristic of appearance. Among them, the first is the characteristic of equality, which is the Dharma of all Buddhas.

The Dharmakaya is equal because its basis, the realm of Dharma, is without difference. The Sambhogakaya of all Buddhas is equal because their intention is without difference. The Nirmanakaya of all Buddhas is equal because their activities have become common. As it is said in the Ornament of the Sutras: "Their basis, intention, and activity are all equal." The distinction of permanence is that the Dharmakaya, in ultimate truth, is of a nature free from birth and death, and is therefore inherently permanent. The Sambhogakaya is continuously permanent because the enjoyment of Dharma is uninterrupted. The Nirmanakaya appears again and again even after disappearing, and even if the continuity of similar beings is interrupted, it arises without exceeding the time of interval, so its activity is permanent. As it is said in the Ornament of the Sutras: "Their nature and continuity are uninterrupted; therefore, they are permanent." The distinction of appearance is that the Dharmakaya appears because the obscuration of knowledge is purified in the realm of Dharma. The Sambhogakaya appears because the obscuration of afflictions is purified. The Nirmanakaya appears because the obscuration of karma is purified. Holy Dharma, The Jewel Ornament of Liberation, the Wish-Fulfilling Gem, Chapter Twenty: Exposition of the Buddha, the Perfect Fruit. Activity is without conceptualization, benefiting beings. It is said. So, if initially generating the mind of enlightenment, in the middle practicing the path, and finally desiring the fruit of Buddhahood, all of these are solely for the purpose of removing the suffering of sentient beings and accomplishing happiness, then at the time of Buddhahood, since there is no conceptualization or effort, will there still be benefit for sentient beings? If you think this way, even though the Buddha has no effort or conceptualization, the benefit for beings is spontaneously accomplished and continuous. How does this arise? In summary: The body, without conceptualization, performs benefit for others; likewise, speech and mind also, without conceptualization, perform benefit for others; these three gather the activities of the Buddha. It is said. The body, speech, and mind, without conceptualization, benefit sentient beings, which is explained with examples. As it is said in the Uttaratantra: "Like Indra's drum, clouds, Brahma, the sun, jewels, and precious things, so the Tathagata proclaims the sound."
