The meaning of the three excellences is briefly summarized: Having obtained a human body with leisure and endowment, and also possessing faith, diligence, and wisdom, thereby being able to rely on a virtuous spiritual friend, from whom one hears the key instructions, practices them accordingly, and is without obstacles, etc. Having these is an excellent opportunity to practice the sacred Dharma. From now until enlightenment is attained, may it be so in all lifetimes. Secondly, it is a prayer for the wisdom that realizes the path: By hearing the scriptures and reasoning, one is liberated from the obscurations of ignorance; By contemplating the key instructions, one destroys the darkness of doubt; By the light arising from meditation, one clearly sees the nature of reality as it is. May the light of the three wisdoms increase! That is to say, the first line is the wisdom arising from hearing, the second is from contemplation, the third is from meditation, and the fourth is a brief statement of aspiration. First, "scripture" here refers to both the Buddha's words and the treatises. The Buddha's words, as stated in the Uttaratantra: "Whatever is meaningful and closely related to Dharma, Completely removes afflictions from all three realms, And teaches the benefits of peace, That is the speech of a sage, and the opposite is not." Like this, it refers to all the scriptures that arise from relying on the Buddha who possesses complete conditions. When divided, there are the Buddha's words spoken from his mouth, the Buddha's words that are permitted, and the Buddha's words that are blessed, or from the perspective of what is being explained, there are the Vinaya, Sutra, and Abhidharma. So, are the secret mantra sections included in these? Because it is the essence of all three, it is only called the Vidyadhara section from a special perspective, but it is certainly included. As Rangjung Dorje (the Third Karmapa) said: "The profound Sutra, Vinaya, and Abhidharma." And, in the Vajra Heart Commentary, it says: "For the Buddha, there is no fourth or fifth view." So it is included in them. The treatises are, as stated in the Uttaratantra: "Whatever is done solely by the teachings of the Victorious One, By a mindful person without distraction, That is in accordance with the path of liberation, That too is worn on the crown of the head like the words of a sage." Like this, it refers to all the treatises that are created by Bodhisattva Aryas and Shravaka Aryas, as well as ordinary Pandit scholars, after the teacher demonstrated the way of passing into Nirvana in this land, and that explain the meaning of the Buddha's words accordingly.

Therefore, there are many ways to distinguish, such as common precepts and individual commentaries. Wisdom, as it arises from texts such as the Compendium on Valid Cognition and the Seven Treatises, is well established through means such as assertions, reasons, and examples, thereby enabling one to understand the meaning to be realized in a general way. Thus, by hearing and understanding the scriptures and reasoning from the lama, the wisdom born of hearing arises, and one is freed from the clouds of ignorance that do not understand scripture and reasoning. As stated by the teacher Chandrakirti: Just as in a crowd of blind people, a sighted person easily leads everyone to the place they desire, so too, here, through wisdom, one gains the ability of the eye and thus goes to victory. Just as he realizes the most profound Dharma through scripture and other reasoning. In the Jataka tales, it says: Hearing is the lamp that dispels the darkness of ignorance, the best of treasures that thieves and others cannot take away, like a weapon that destroys all enemies of delusion, the best of friends who show the means, methods, and instructions. These are the things that were said. Secondly, the term "oral instruction" (Tib. man ngag), in Sanskrit, *Upadeśa* (उपदेश,Upadeśa,teaching, advice), means that the Sugata, out of compassion, closely taught the meaning to liberate us from the bonds of samsara and nirvana. Applying these meanings to one's own mind-stream and contemplating them properly is the contemplation of oral instructions. In particular, the Sugata taught various vehicles according to different inclinations, thus resulting in various teachings that require interpretation and those that do not. Furthermore, the tantras of the Great Perfection Vajrayana, being completely bound by the six limits, are extremely profound. Therefore, with a pure Dharma eye, relying on a teacher who relies on the four reliances, one properly and essentially explains and contemplates the oral instructions that are imparted. In this way, contemplating the oral instructions gives rise to the wisdom born of contemplation, and it destroys the darkness of doubt that is divided in mind regarding the profound state. Thirdly, by hearing extensively and properly contemplating the meaning of what has been heard, one gains a definitive understanding free from doubt. By abiding and meditating on this, the wisdom born of meditation arises, and with the light of wisdom, one sees the nature of reality as it is.
