It is said that a hunter was walking in the forest to look for prey, and there he saw a meditator, and seeing that he himself had become accustomed to the forest and eventually became a meditator. He knew that he had to get used to secluded places. When an archer was concentrating on making an arrow, he did not see the king passing in front with his army. He knew that he had to concentrate his mind. When a young woman was rubbing spices, she felt uncomfortable because many bracelets made noises, and eventually she took them all off and felt comfortable. He knew that he had to abandon friends and live alone. Relying on these, he did as they did, and thus arose the excellent samadhi. Like this, abandoning busyness, with four uncommon preliminaries, arranging the auspicious coincidence for the effortless arising of the wisdom of Mahamudra, these are the initially unavoidable limbs. Second, regarding the method of equally abiding in the middle, there are two points: the body point and the mind point. First, the body point. Although it is not directly stated here, it can be obtained from the side, and the way is: In the Vajra Garland Tantra, it says: "The practitioner sits on a comfortable cushion, with eyes fixed on the tip of the nose, keeping the level of seeing the nose. Shoulders and arms are level, tongue touches the palate, teeth and lips are placed comfortably. Relax the exhalation and inhalation of breath, slightly away from effort. The vajra full lotus posture is well established." And in the Vajra Peak Tantra, it says: "In a clean place without busyness, there establish the full lotus posture. Just as the Bodhisattva sat under the Bodhi tree. Close the eyes, put the teeth together, straighten the body, make a mudra. Single-mindedly remember the Mahamudra." As it is said, like the seven dharmas of Vairochana and the five dharmas of meditation, etc., which appear from the oral instructions, it is very important to properly bind the body point. The mind point is: to abide in clarity with one's own mind, to abide in emptiness, to abide in union, to specifically strive to stop conceptual thoughts, and to focus on the object, etc. In short, it is very important that it is not defiled by the meditation of effort made by one's own mind. In the Guhyasamaja Tantra, it says: "Without things, there is no meditation, what is to be meditated is not meditation. Thus, with things and without things, meditation is without an object."

Also, in the Hevajra it says: Because you have not meditated with the mind, you should meditate on all beings. And, in the Sahajakayasiddhi it says: Like a vase, empty inside, whoever conceptualizes in this way, or the mind that speaks of emptiness, that is not what Sahaja speaks of. And, Madanapada says: Knowing the nature that appears as self and other to be one, holding it completely with unwavering attention, since it is the pain of the mind, let it go, and without attachment to anything, take pleasure. Actions harmful to the mind are all empty, and there is no need for any action of gaining or taking. Free from effort, without temporary or sudden causes, this mudra of various appearances is a great spectacle. And also, in the Sutras, in the Seven Hundred Prajnaparamita it says: Not accepting, grasping, or abandoning any dharma, that is the meditation of the Prajnaparamita. Not abiding in anything, that itself is the meditation of the Prajnaparamita. Not thinking about anything, that is the meditation of the Prajnaparamita. And, in the Eight Thousand Verses it says: Meditating on the Prajnaparamita is not meditating on any dharma. And, in the Samadhiraja Sutra it says: The thought that arises, thinking, "This is to be known, this is to be abandoned," is indulging in the proliferation of thoughts, and he will not be liberated from the proliferation of thoughts. And, in the Buddhimatsagaramati Sutra it says: Do not think about dharmas, and especially abandon special thinking. All dharmas are equal, and understand them as they truly are. And so on, because the Sutras and Tantras of the Mahayana, along with their commentaries, have endlessly proclaimed these things. Therefore, the only thing to do is to leave the uncorrected, natural state in its own natural condition. Regarding its manner, the instructions of this Kagyu lineage say: Do not cut off the past, do not welcome the future, leave the present awareness without fabrication in its own natural state. As the Lord of Dharma Gampopa said: When we say, "Do not cut off the past," our mind does not follow after previous thoughts. When we say, "Do not welcome the future," our mind does not welcome future thoughts. The present awareness is genuine.
