Because the basis lies within oneself, and one does not understand the distinctions, therefore the realms are taught. Furthermore, sentient beings to be tamed have three kinds of desires: the yoga of previous habituation or shamatha and vipashyana, and both being equal, and those gathered by practicing vipashyana, desiring the medium and the extensive. For example, a certain bhikshu said to me, please teach me the Dharma in a concise manner. Therefore, in accordance with desires, three are taught, because if it does not accord, one will not enter the teachings. Fourth, there are four reasons for these certainties: the reason why feeling and perception are shown separately as aggregates from mental factors; the reason why the unconditioned is not established as an aggregate; the way in which the order of aggregates, realms, and sources is determined; and the reason why the two sources of form and phenomena are established separately. First, why are feeling and perception shown separately as aggregates from mental factors? Among mental factors, many others are gathered into one aggregate of formations, but the reason why feeling and perception, each being a separate entity, are established separately as aggregates is: Those attached to desire, the householder side, are known to argue over women and so on, and its root or main cause is feeling, because they want their own happiness and others' suffering, so they argue over its cause. Those attached to views, the renunciant side, consider the views of self-nature to be good or bad, and thus establish and refute, arguing, and its root or main cause is inverted perception. The sutra says: Because of attachment to desire, kings argue with kings, farmers with farmers, brahmins with brahmins, householders with householders. Because of attachment to views, renunciants argue with renunciants. It is also the main cause of samsara, because by clinging to feelings and views, one accumulates karma in order to accept or reject them, and it is also in the order of inverted perceptions, with the four inverted perceptions acting as the basis for afflictions. Therefore, these two are the root of faults, so they must be abandoned, this is the conclusion. It is also the reason for showing the order of the five aggregates. Second, the reason why the unconditioned is taught in the sources and realms, but the unconditioned is not taught in the aggregates is: because it is not suitable for the meaning of the aggregates, there is no destruction or demolition, so it is not an aggregate.

The five aggregates are not acceptable. Because for the eleven dharmas such as the past, the meaning of accumulation is incomplete, so it cannot be taken as merely the meaning of aggregate, therefore the sixth aggregate is not established. Moreover, in order to understand the basis of all afflictions, if it is called aggregate in order to understand the basis of both grasping aggregate and complete purity, then unconditioned dharma cannot be taken as the meaning of basis. Third, it is divided into two parts: the order of aggregates, and the order of ayatanas and dhatus. First, from the four, the grosser, that is, the easier to understand, has been said before, in order to gradually understand the difficult ones as well, that is: form is obstructive, therefore it is gross for everything, so it is said first. Among the non-form dharmas, feeling is gross in its aspect, and conception grasps the mark, because it is easy to understand, so it is grosser than the other two. Volition grasps the difference in meaning, so it is gross, while consciousness only grasps the meaning, so it is very difficult. Moreover, from the grasping aggregate, afflictions enter, and also, first, to what all afflictions transform, to that, by abandoning afflictions, in order to show that it does not enter into others either, first shows the earlier transformation of afflictions. Initially, men and women are fond of form, that, for beauty and ugliness, feeling transforms into suffering and happiness, and for the experienced feeling, conception perversely transforms into happiness and suffering, from this, volition arises greed, hatred, etc., from this, consciousness becomes afflicted. Moreover, using the analogy of containers etc. to show the order of meaning, that is: in the world, just like enjoying food, in the two realms, enjoying the ripening, also, form is the basis of feeling, therefore it is a container, feeling is the main experiencer of ripening, therefore it is food, conception is the one who imposes the names of suffering and happiness, therefore it is the seasoning that makes the food delicious or not, volition is the one who generates those, therefore it is the cook, consciousness is the one who enjoys those, therefore it is like the eater, it is the order of actual realization. Moreover, the three realms are the order of detachment from desire, and that is shown as it is, that is: the desire realm is the distinction between good and bad form of the qualities of desire, the form realm is distinguished by feeling, the first three of the formless realm are distinguished by conception, and the peak of existence is distinguished by volition, consciousness is for those
