is for, that is, clinging to possessions such as Dharma robes, etc., the three things desired, and the desire to cling to the body, that is, the two types of craving for external and internal things. In terms of method, the former can be temporarily pacified, while in terms of function, both can be completely pacified. The second part discusses the order of the path to be cultivated, including the practice of calm abiding and the practice of insight. First is the practice of calm abiding, which is divided into teaching and explanation. First, having become a vessel, how does one enter meditation? The way to enter is through practicing the contemplation of impurity, or through mindfulness of the in-and-out breathing. What kind of person is suitable to practice? A person with strong desire is suitable to practice the contemplation of impurity, and a person with excessive thoughts is suitable to practice mindfulness of the in-and-out breathing. It is said that this can cut off thoughts because some people focus on fire in various objects, and others say it is because they do not look outward. For those with strong hatred, practice loving-kindness; for those with strong ignorance, practice dependent origination; for those with strong pride, practice the analysis of elements. If the afflictions are equal, calm abiding can arise. If the afflictions are equal or lesser, calm abiding can arise from the beginning. If the afflictions are very strong, calm abiding will definitely arise, because the Compendium only lists these five afflictions. The second part includes practicing the contemplation of impurity and mindfulness of the in-and-out breathing. First is the contemplation of impurity, which is divided into teaching and explanation. First, for the four types of desire, especially the antidote to desire for color, are the five contemplations of pus, swelling, redness, and burning. For desire for shape, contemplate the eaten and scattered corpses. For desire for touch, contemplate the skeleton gnawed by worms and connected by bones. For desire for veneration, contemplate the motionless corpse. Practicing the contemplation of the skeleton is beneficial to all those who are attached, because it is a good medicine to counteract attachment. The second part includes the practice of yoga and the determination of its meaning. First is the practice, there are three practices. First, in one's own forehead or any place one likes, imagine a wound appearing, the flesh rotting, and then contemplate it as bone. Gradually, imagine one's entire body and the entire earth up to the boundless ocean as bones. Then, starting from the edge of the ocean, contemplate as before, and finally focus the mind on one's own single bone, this is the activity.

Moreover, collecting from one's own foot bones to the crown of the head, that is, the upper and lower parts of the head, or between half of each other, as before, giving in the same way, and being clear in this way is said to be the yogi who has practiced mindfulness. As before, if even half of the crown of the head is abandoned, and the mind is held on a bone the size of a thumb between one's eyebrows, then one is a yogi who has perfected the practice of contemplating impurity. Secondly, the nature of impurity is non-attachment to virtue. If with retinue, it is the four or five aggregates. The place is the five dhyanas, the four close abidings, and the one-pointedness of the desire realm, that is, ten, and the object is the appearance of the desire realm, that is, the form of color and shape, the aspect is impurity, the time when it is the object is the time of that birth, and the three times of non-birth, the basis is the male and female born in the three continents, and others do not have it. Attainment is that in this life, if one is familiar with it from before, there is no attachment, and if one is not familiar with it, it is through practice. Secondly, the common is taught, and the specific is explained. First, mindfulness of breathing in and breathing out is the wisdom that distinguishes the nature in that way, and it is called mindfulness because it arises from the power of generating mindfulness. The place is that there is no wind above the fourth dhyana, and the bliss of the three dhyanas is clear, and in order to lead to conceptual thought, it is in the three special close abidings and the desire realm, that is, the five dhyanas of equanimity. The object of practice is wind. The basis is the basis of the gods and humans of the desire realm, but because there is no scripture and one does not contemplate the profound oneself, it is not the basis of the outsiders. Secondly, the difference in the way of practice, the nature of the object, and the difference of the subject. First, there are six types such as counting. As it is said: Counting and following, abiding and thinking, transformation and purification, are considered to be six types. Just like this. First, the body and mind are placed without any fabrication, and if it is too little, the mind will sink, and if it is too much, there is concern about distraction, so counting from one to ten is free from three faults. Secondly, if one holds one as incomplete, if one holds one as two, it is superfluous, and if one holds breathing in as breathing out, or breathing out as breathing in, the counting is confused.
